I agree on the special powers because usually they feel minor and tacked on. But there are exceptions like Marco Polo 1 or Clans Of Caledonia where the powers completely change the way you play and I love that. But in this case I will definitely stick with my copy of Carolus Magnus. Colovini has designed some great games. I especially like this, Shangri-La, Alexandros and Masons.

Marco Polo's powers are amazing, because they are so powerful and yet still seem (to me) fairly balanced. My last game of it was almost a three-way tie. Hard to imagine that game without the powers. Agreed 100%!

Thanks for doing another one of these, D. The altered tag line was a great mic drop! 🤣

It's always nice to see new versions of old games come out, like Metropolys and this one. Unfortunately in my opinion these new editions lack of artistic personality and originality. The Carolus Magnus beige map is much more coherent and immersive that this new generic fantasy theme. Oh well, at least more people will play the game!

The character cards are not "each player has their own" nor "individual player powers". The three selected cards are face up and equally available to all players from the start of the game.

Okay. I dislike the general trend of adding special powers including, but not limited to, individual player powers.

Not making any value judgement, just making factual statements. The words you used in the video (as above) may be misleading given that they don't apply to Eriantys.

Okay, thanks. But my dislike for special powers _does_ certainly apply to Eriantys.

I've never played Carolus Magnus, and all due respect to those willing to do the work to republish a classic game so it's available for modern gamers, but this reimplantation of the theme and art direction is, imho appalling. Who is the intended target audience? There's a lot more negative criticisms I have floating around in my head about this (the mother nature pawn looks like an orange piece of poo), but there's not much point in going on. Maybe I'll just scream into a pillow instead and then seek out a copy of the original on eBay

The setting should match the feel of the game. I wonder if anyone will buy Eriantys and be disappointed, because there's a disconnect between the cover and the type of game it is.
While I'm glad to see these games return and even be redeveloped a bit, it's a shame that fairy-tale fantasy is the contemporaneous trend, so we can't have one without the other.
