To be fair our ports, roads, railways, air transport and electricity supply used to be the best in the world while being nationalised pre-1994. The difference then and now is officials were not as corrupt. Prisoners were used for labour and not treated as hotel guests in prison. Police officers were carefully selected. Laws were enforced by police and judiciary. Criminals were harshly punished. These days criminals don't fear prosecution. Law abiding citizens live like prisoners behind bars and electronic systems in their homes while criminals roam free in the streets.

Can SA not change the electoral system in a way that we minimize the number of parties? That will reduce the wsisted votes and reduce the voters' confusion. One way is to have 2 ekection rounds where only the top 3 or 4 or 5 top parties get promoted to 2nd round.
They want to introduce a bill that has a minimum voting threshold that a party must achieve to get a seat in parlement. Countries like Germany has a 5% threshold, meaning parties with less than 5% don't get a seat. Here the threshold that is proposed is 1% which is a lot less, but we have to realistic since our voters and democracy isn't as mature as Germany's so 1% for now is a good start, but as the year go on they can if they want to change the threshold to something higher.

No, a new law says that you can only vote at the polling station where you are registered. The date of the election will be Proclaimed by the President soon after the State of the Nation Address on the 8 February 2024. John, the biggest factors keeping people poor, especially in the Western Cape, is unaffordable housing and education. It is not fair that people cannot get home loans or loans for reasonable amounts. Foreigners bought up most of the property in the Southern Peninsula and the prices rocketed to ridiculous amounts. If people can comfortably afford a house in a safe area then they will have money to spend on school, food etc. I feel basic education should be free, not tertiary education.
