When Wishbone came on PBS I fell in love with this little dog and his human side kicks. Mine you I I was 36 years old when Wishbone made it's debut and baby sitting my sweet 4 year old nephew gave me every excuse to watch Wishbone. Joe played by Jordan Wall is now 39 years old at this time in history being February 3 ,2021. Can't understand why this delightful T.V. program lasted only 2 seasons such a horrible shame. I miss the times associated with this show. 1995 most everyone I cared about was still very much a live. Time flies people so do right and do good we're not promised one more day here.
I loved it too (I was already a bookworm, but this came out when I was starting Middle School and it got me into classics I'd never read). Sadly, it didn't get as much attention as BARNEY (the two shows were made by the same company) and it was more expensive to make, so it only ran two seasons.
I’m 37, I used to watch this EVERYDAY after school. My classmate’s mom used to baby us from 5t-8th grade (USA, unfortunately). Although I remember my childhood in vivid memory, I remember my after school activities especially as we all loved my babysitter. She recently took her life so I have been remembering the times with her especially well these past few months... This show was excellent when I was a child in private school, the child of an educator and in my opinion as an excuse today it is still a magnificent telly show for literacy
Looking at the quality of kids shows from back in the day, they were really dedicated to children's education. I hope we start investing in local and public programs again. Forget those charities that are scams for rich CEO's, this is where I want my money to go!
I first saw this episode which I first owned it on video at the age of 8, ever since my whole family and I lived in Plano, Texas for 2 years from 1997 to 1999.
What a terrific show I was so lucky as a kid. You got a cute dog classic story where kids could learn about great authors like Mark twain and you got a story that was current the kids could relate with and teach them some thing then at the end you were in the little something about video production. Amazing stuff it doesn’t exist anymore sadly…
This episode gave my family in in joke we used all throughout my childhood, we’d say “how did you turn out so well” (or something opposite of the line here) and the response was “food, lousy beatings” 😂 good times
I love how in the end, they describe splicing the pictures together 'electronically' as opposed to 'digitally'. Really shows how fast language evolves.
@@MichaelD8393 Yeah. But I too always adored JRT'S. My mom's dog now is a Cattle dog terrier mix. It has a cattle dogs face but it's nose and ears like a terrier.
Fun but sad fact: Soccer the dog died on June 26, 2001, this show was still aired after his death but had to end airing reruns on September 3, 2001 and replaced it with Sagwa: The Siamese Cat. I did wish Wishbone was still on air at the time when I was 6 years old.
Wishbone is like the Veggie Tales of literature, whereas VT is from the bible and Wishbone is from any long time novel or short story being adapted in some form of a certain episode. I remember watching this show until it's cancellation on September 3, 2001 when I was 5 to 6, I was 6 when it was cancelled, and I loved watching Wishbone, a.k.a. Soccer The Dog, acting very good in these episodes. I remember watching this episode at that time, and now I am reliving my kindergarten/first grade era all over again! Soccer the Dog will always be missed as he passed on on June 26, 2001, just months before his show was taken off air. (Written on April 2, 2023)
