- Rory Golden was on the Oceangate expedition when contact with the sub and its five passengers was lost on a dive to the Titanic in June 2023.
Those who perished were British explorer Hamish Harding, the British-Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman, Stockton Rush, the CEO of Oceangate, and French diver Paul Henri - or PH - Nargeolet.
Rory Golden was a close friend of PH - a veteran deep sea explorer.
He is now on the first expedition to the Titanic since the tragedy - an expedition that PH Nargeolet was supposed to be leading.

I was reading that each time the Titan Sub made a dive, it got weaker, and an accident like this was inevitable.
each time it was exposed to the immense pressure of the deep sea, the carbon fibre got weaker, and of course, the weaker it got, the less pressure it could take over time.
Imagine spending the money this cost on something worthwhile for betterment of humankind

Hopefully this time they have used materials that have similar Thermal Linear Expansion Coefficients. The last sub was doomed to fail since it was constructed using a mixture of Titanium and a Carbon Fibre composite. The Titanium “torispherical” dished end (α = 8.6 x 10^-6/K), interfaced a carbon fibre thick shell tube (close to zero).
They probably took account of the thermal stresses, but did they take account of the lamination that could and will occur in the carbon fibre lays as a result of cyclic loadings at the shell interface.
Its almost freezing at the Ocean bed and the sub was made in a room temperature environment. This Δ temperature combined with and thick shell are fraught with danger, a thin shell would have been more capable and able to dissipate the stresses without the carbon lays seperating.
I have analysed thick carbon structures whilst working in the Space Industry, but we always avoided attaching it to a structure which would induce a extreme thermal preload.
We where dealing with satellites and not peoples lives.
I pray that this sub has been designed correctly and there is not a repeat of the last disaster.
