  • I wanted to add BT to a console stereo but the switching power supply screwed up the AM reception. I show how to build a simple power supply connected to the AC bulb circuit.
    Here's the BT I used: amzn.to/2V5PgU2

I have an airbnb with an old console - not working. I love the piece, and want to spice it up with usable turntable or at least bluetooth speakers. Love input from others!

I have this exact console, I found it on Nextdoor completely refurbished, everything works flawlessly and has a beautiful sound. I would love to do this project!! We could use some New Age music since all I collect is oldies and my guests get bored with my old lady tastes lol

I have a Console just like yours and my advice to you is please fix the turntable it’s worth the money because it will increase the value.

The Bluetooth is a nice add, but the record player is a must for me. I still have all of my records from the 60's forward and buying a Magnavox to restore.

Excellent! I did something very similar with an old Wards console for my daughter. Works great! I like your power supply solution.

Thank you! I just bought a vintage record player cabinet and was thinking of adding a Bluetooth.

Hmmm. I would think the only reason to have a console stereo would be to have a functional turntable.

I happen to have this exact same model of vintage console so thank you so much for this helpful video! I am working to follow your instructions but have a silly question- I can't find the aux plug-in. Did you have to rig something for that end too or is it tucked away?

The stereo I worked on had a set of right and left RCA aux jacks that I could use. You could use the phono jacks as well. Here's a picture of where the jacks are: 1drv.ms/u/s!AgRy1tCE6lTd-xCv5WfyilxMgbWu?e=LTafeB

You can just get a monster cable that ha audio in and plug it to your older iphone or nano and use that device to play music as well. The console has to have audio out, say for the "tape deck or external speakers" and your good to go.

Do you have any videos on replacing an entire receiver with a more modern one? I have an old Sylvania console from the late 60s or early 70s. Unfortunately, while the receiver functions, it's not great. I think the tuner and the outputs/wires are shot. But, I'm just not sure how to go about replacing the receiver.

Thanks for both of your videos on this model. I just purchased the same model, and so far everything works on mine. I plan on adding bluetooth soon, but not confident to replace the capacitors. Any recommendations for a first timer if I were to get up the courage?

When I was learning micro soldering I just got some old junk circuit boards and practiced on them. Same with recaps, get a junk circuit board and some solder wick and practice. Then you'll be confident when you work on your stereo. I also just do one at a time. It is also useful to use a sharpie and mark the side of the cap that faces the front of the board so even after it is out you can see how it was oriented. Buy new caps from digikey or mouser so you know you're not getting fakes. Good luck!

Hi there, I have a customer who wants me to Bluetooth a pair of external speakers to his Philips stereogram. Would this application work?

Would you be interested in selling a pre made power supply? The tuner and record player on mine both have issues but everything else seems to work fine. This would make our cabinet usable till we can find a working player and make my day!

Just watched your two videos and they had great info for me. Had purchased the same BT device on Amazon last week. What would it cost for you to make another voltage regulator for your BT device that I can purchase from you? I have the same console you did your video on.

I looked at the data sheet for the 7805 for the little filter caps otherwise I just went from experience. After I did the video I found this video which shows a very nice solution: ua-cam.com/video/eWfsWNUpSNs/v-deo.html

Looks to be about 1965. In 66, they went with an updated changer with a tan control post.
