I think a lot of the "Bighit doesn't promote BTS" criticism stems from BTS not doing music shows anymore, when they've said that doing music shows without an audience isn't really fun, and Yoongi even said that music shows are exploitative off the idols and the idols don't benefit from them. I also don't really care about PTD being blocked by Butter on the charts, because I'm like 90% sure the only reason the song was ever even included on the Butter album was to entice people into buying it. Realistically, selling a $20 album for one song that already exists isn't appealing to a lot of people. Promotions for Butter, Dynamite, and BE were honestly fine, PTD is the only one that was really sketchy. BTS's target demographic is their fans, so if the promotions are targeted towards fans (i.e. the BE postcard promo, Butter twitter teaser clips, etc), who cares lol.

also the Gfriend opinion is kinda serendipitous seeing as it just came out that only 3 of the Gfriend members are going to continue as a unit together. The other former members aren't even doing music anymore. So while I'm sure Source Music's treatment of the members played a part in the members leaving, the member's drive to either continue music or pursue other fields likely played just as big of a role.

BE wasn't really marketed as a "commercial release" like BTS's other comebacks. There's a reason why so many Army's act like BE or LGO doesn't exist. Bighit didn't promote it, so Army's also doesn't give priority to it for streaming. Bighit needs to hire a new marketing team.

Just look how low the views of those songs are in UA-cam compared to BTS's other comebacks.
I've noticed that after 2018, Bighit kinda stopped putting effort in promoting BTS's comebacks bcz they were already doing so well and Army's were doing the promotion for BTS that was the job of Bighit's marketing team. There was a paper that came out a couple years ago, with a written essay. I don’t remember where but, they basically said that the reason HYBE doesn’t promote BTS so much, and instead let the fans do it, is because it promotes fan engagement. That’s the reason BTS is so popular, is because the fans which are in the millions (90+) create posters, advertisements, and they promote BTS every comeback. By making promotional content it engages the fans to want to be more involved with the group. Because of this the fans are constantly entertained, and updated on what’s going on with the group. I’m actually surprised other companies don’t do this more, but I think other companies do try to do the same type of promotion through fans but, other groups under different companies don’t have the same fan support as ARMY. That’s why even if a group is pushed to the west their impact doesn’t stick as hard as BTS. If you look at Twitter as an example, almost every day something is trending because of BTS. Having this type of fan engagement and support is the reason why BTS is still popular, because the fans are willing, and ready to promote. The fans promote, they vote, they stream, and in return, BTS releases almost constant content for ARMY. It’s almost like we are a large family working together to achieve the same goal.

Its like in the west, many famous artists drop surprise albums all the time and they do great because they are such big names with huge support that their promoters/labels don't need to do much work. I think BTS is among them. BTS is so famous and global with a huge fandom that everything they release promotion or no promotion, surprise or very much anticipated, it will do great. Being active in the buddy community, it's really saddening to see that some buddies, who used to take pride in buddies being a "peaceful" fandom, (like literally would not stop bragging about how we stay calm amidst fanwars), and then themselves tweeting about how they are gonna boycott/slander the new girl group.
I think most of their anger is fueled by the sudden announcement and source music not offering an official statement, which in no way could justify any of the hate towards anything soumu/hybe related.
Even though I would consider myself a huge fan of GFriend, I could not say that I have a strong emotional connection to the group like some buddies do, so I could never claim to understand how frustrated some fans were when they heard about the disbandment. However, I don't think it's right to point fingers and come up with bizarre theories, and jump on the "blame hybe/soumu" bandwagon. Like there's literally so many factors that go into managing and planning for the future of a kpop group, just because the girls have said multiple times that they want to be together as a group forever, doesn't mean they would never disband. I know better than to "BOYCOTT!!11!" when companies fuck up because ultimately it hurts the idols more. people tend to react in the most immature ways and try to deal with problems so illogically, and if you try to call them out on it then you're "PART OF THE PROBLEM" and need to be cancelled ASAP. ffs grow up twt

Hi ! In my opinion, big hit didn't promote permission to dance that much because they (the boys and big hit) didn't necessarily wanted it to chart. I'm a really active ARMY on twitter and even I didn't understand what permission to dance was supposed to be until few days before it's release, and many ARMYs on twitter were confused as well. I think big hit know what they're doing and they're are not bothered because this is what the boys want. Indeed, RM said in a interview that he didn't care about being mainstream as long as ARMYs listen to their songs. So that's probably why they rely on ARMYs for promotion. On the other hand, I do think that big hit should use their Instagram to promote the boys even more, even if they started to use it a little more than before, I'm sure they can improve on promoting on Instagram.

Armys work better when we have clarity about things. But I disagree with LGO & PTD timing. LGO (& BE) wasn't intended to be a major CB. And PTD seems more like a conclusion to the trilogy that is BTS' full English tracks & they went with a healing concept for that.
The timing did make charting or numbers difficult, but I think charting/numbers weren't the main focus with both releases & at times, we as a fandom forgets to look beyond that.

About the izone opinion, temporary groups just don’t make much sense in general. Kinda annoyed that gp999 is a thing, it’s basically produce all over again. My hot take is that gp999 NEEDS to be rigged because apparently fans can’t vote properly. Y’all just don’t understand that the winning contestants will be a group and are just voting based on “aura” etc. Remember, this is a kpop group, their main job is to sing. The final group is gonna only have main and lead dancers, sub-vocals, and visuals if mnet doesn’t rig it.
Now that I think about it that was almost what happened with izone; I don’t think it’s an accident that yuri’s rank rose so much in the last episode, she was one of the few actually decent vocalists on the show and mnet recognized that they needed a main vocalist in the group. It was a smart move in their part tbh

Some brands are powerful enough to promote themselves. e.g BTS, Blackpink etc. It is called word-of-mouth promotion. Take Tesla for example, Tesla relies heavily on word-of-mouth advertising. This means Tesla markets to its customers by not directly marketing to them. So, what I'm trying to say is that I dont think a company like HYBE, who's main objective is to make profits, would suddenly became lazy and not promote BTS. They are the worlds biggest band. A band with a large and loyal audience like that makes marketing very poweful.

I'm late and I probably won't get an answer, but I'll try. I agree completely that boy groups have more fandom support than gg and that's why companies can drop them so quickly, but why? Why do girl groups attract more casual fans than boy groups? Why don't they produce the numbers and the sales? Why aren't they buying? And this feeds into the toxic idea you were talking about too, it feeds into this idea that boy group fans are crazy girls who would do anything for those boys and are willing to spend more than a pretty penny on them, for absolutely anything. Though that is clearly wrong it is true that for some reason they are financially loyal and willing to give a pretty coin most often then not. I don't like thinking that I am a bad fan and would love to think that fans are those who support their idols and stay loyal to them however they can, but of course many people think it's those who spend the money on them. Whenever I see kpop fans with many albums and who spend a lot, truthfully it seems to be more of the bg fan demographic. Are girl group fans just cheap? But then again why? Boy group fans just seem to go the extra mile for their idols in this sense. As for me I'm just broke and even if I wanted to buy tickets to a concert as a Puerto Rican living in the island I'd have to spend money on flights and hotels just to see them. Any one have any ideas why girl group fans aren't as profitable? Is the culture just different? But that would of course still leave the question of why? Cause I LOVE my girl groups and have been loyal to them for years, I have a few albums like 7 or 8 and even got a lighstick that I have amounted throughout the years. However honestly while I am broke it's not like I have this huge desire to have them, most of the time I'm fine and I guess that's how gg fans are?

    • @adyachoudhary183

It actually kind of lies in the misogynistic nature of sk as a country. I'm sure there are other factors as well but a lot of people in korea are misogynistic and maybe hence don't want to financially support girl groups even if they like them/ listen to their songs. One incident of this misogyny I can remember is Irene getting hate for reading a book on feminism. Now i know international fans exist but for most groups especially groups outside of the big 3, they don't have much of an international fanbase who are willing to pay for the album + shipping is expensive too. A few gg like snsd, bp and twice have amazing sales but other than these groups and a couple others here and there, gg sales are very low. Not only that but gg have a shorter life span as well, they are definitely mistreated/ overworked/ sexualized by company and fans and maybe just want to leave. Most gg don't have creative freedom hence they leave, or they just want to move on from kpop. Also have you noticed how most creative directors, writers, producers in kpop are men? ik there are some excellent women killing it in these fields out there but the industry is dominated by men, even on the inside.

    • @kittybitty04

I heard somewhere that one reason why girl groups don't sell as well is bc they are marketed more towards a male audience. Not all girl groups are, but if the fanbase is mostly made up of men, they might not show up in numbers as women do. Men might not participate or be as loyal in fandom spaces.

People are always like “this group wouldn’t be the same if it wasn’t for bts or bp. “That person/group worked very hard for it. They probably trained for years and then your claiming their trying to be them. Not everyone wants to be bp or bts. Their all good and different. Then that group gets hate for “copying.”

My unpopular opinion: I expect lowkey, subliminal anti-black racism from the K-Pop music stans, who rant about "how K-Pop music is much better than the pop music in the western societies". In most rants that I've heard (9 times out of 10), the stans always use black entertainers as examples of how "perverted, sexualized, mediocre and drug-fueled" western, pop music is (when being compared to K-Pop music)... as if there weren't non-black artists (ex. Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, etc.) they could've used.

whats funny is that these non black artists are usually seen as liberating, inspiring when they are doing the same things and talking about the same subjects. talking about sex, love, money and pride. lol. One thing i've realised is that they go so hard and attack the hiphop/ rap industry as if the pop scene isn't as bad or even worse in some categories.

I agree with opinion 1 that they aren't promoted that well now but I don't think that really effects their comeback and all thanks to Armys! Also I think they did promote Butter and Dynamite really well and so as PTD too (few so called armys themselves sabotaged comeback saying it was boring)! And for BE I think it's because it was personal to them and may be it's just BTS's decision! We do see that BTS has a lot of say in all their release and activity!but definitely none of them would ever leave BigHit until something happen in future! The boys themselves has always said how happy they are to work with BigHit and that it's a family to them! Also how can they leave BigHit when they are owners of BigHit?They own 33.3% in BigHit Music which makes them owner of BigHit Music!I am talking about BH Music not Hybe okay!

I think that BTS don't need promotions anymore. They are not a rookie group that needs this type of hype. So I feel that Hybe is being intelligent and knowing where to put their attention to. for example TXTs comebacks.

As a non Army, I don't understand the obsession with trying to break records every comeback, even when it's records BTS set themselves. Other groups feel loved and appreciated without having to break records left and right. I think Armys care too much about numbers, and not enough about the actual music. I'm sure those boys are just happy to be doing what they love and having people love what they do.

I think many armys are attracted to BTS like football fans are attracted to the most successful teams. It's not about the music, it's about the prestige. So they try to push BTS even further. There are also fans who feel validation if their group is more successful than others.

I think you overestimate the impact of individual armys “obsession” with records. The main reason behind BTS records is just the size of the fandom compare to other fandoms. You’re not gonna care about records if you don’t have the capacity to break them to begin with.

I 100% agree with the fact that bg stans are waayy better at financially supporting boy groups than gg stans are with girl groups. So many terrible takes come from them. GG stans will write think pieces on not streaming and buying their favs music then be surprised in 2 years when their favs disband. Well, what do you think is keeping the lights on and fridge full?? Then they will bring up charts. Yeah you can have both, but I’m pretty sure groups prefer 2M album sales and #67 and OUT on the charts bc that’s what keeps the fridge full instead of letting idols have sleep for dinner. I will always buy BTS albums bc I love their music and that’s how you support an artist not being edgy on social media. Maybe instead of writing terrible takes on Twitter go out an buy an album. It’s still on the shelf at target.

Nah let’s talk about how some Kpop fans try to use black trauma or racism as a way to hate on idols or groups for no reason. Even when black Kpop fans come out and say it’s not a big deal or you’re misreading the situation they ignore them and continue to bash idols for no reason. They get mad at idols for not knowing another country’s history which is stupidly ignorant enough when 80% of Kpop fans don’t even speak Korean or know any history regarding Korea either. If it isn’t bluntly racist then stop trying to justify a reason of hating on idols who just didn’t know:) ( this doesn’t go for idols who just say n word or the hard r either)

Idol stopping smiling for a second in the performance does not mean they're depressed/anxious/tired of idol life. I saw so many people having conspiracy theories that idols are mistreated, forced to lose weight etc just because for some moment they weren't smiling. I don't think closing eyes at every bad thing that is happening in kpop industry is a good idea (it's even worse) but starting to worry about an idol for the littlest things is terrible too. Let them live and stop saying that 99% idols are depressed for dumb reasons.

I totally agree with the Bighit not giving enough effort for BTS promotion opinion. After 2018, I feel like Bighit really started relying on Army's too much. For the last three years, It always feels like Bighit barely tries to promote BTS, especially right before their comeback. A big entertainment agency like bighit/HYBE should do the promotions in a professional way. I think Bighit kinda knows now that Army's are gonna explode the comeback news on the Internet anyways. So they barely make any effort to promote BTS before their comeback. Nowadays I see sooo many casual fans and Army's who don't use twitter or other social media apps, these people don't even know when BTS releases a new song or even a collab. I've seen so many Army's on the comment sections being totally clueless on the day a new song is released.
I also feel like nowadays, Bighit doesn't really give a proper direction to fans when they release a BTS comeback schedule. I remember during ON era, everyone was so confused and majority of the people didn't even know which songs to stream or which song was the lead single. Just look how great the comeback for Dynamite and Butter was. Those songs were heavily promoted and even non fans knew about the comeback.
About LGO and PTD, Bighit really didn't promote those songs that much bcz those songs were more like "gifts" to Army's during the pandemic situation and not marketed as a "commercial release". Just look how low the views are for those songs on UA-cam compared to BTS's other releases. If Bighit doesn't show much importance to those comebacks, Army's also wouldn't go out of their way to stream those songs. Bighit really needs to understand that Army's can't do everything. They really need to hire a new marketing manager.

hey. i'm a reveluv who joined during psycho era, but i've never assumed that red velvet was ever gonna stop performing or anything. when i first joined the fandom, i tried to familiarise myself with everything about red velvet;names, representative colours, bsides, title tracks from happiness onwards, and just simply put, learning more about red velvet. i have always supported them ever since i entered the fandom. i genuinely love all their music and i try to support them by buying albums whenever they release one. i've also beentaking the effort to make friends with reveluvs at physical fancafes and meeting more reveluv mutuals on twitter etc.
conclusion is, not all baby reveluvs are like what you said. maybe the minority you see, but not every baby reveluv out there. i want red velvet to last for as long as they want or can. don't be misunderstood by this minority of baby reveluvs. most of us aren't like this. thanks for reading.

one thing i will say is no matter how many direct quotes and interviews and whatever else is used that says red velvet want to carry on, its not like sm has a history of listening... like they may not 'disband' but them slowly fading into inactivity is something sm pull and have pulled with their girlgroups before so its not like any form of red velvet doing this is off the table? in general most fans saying this know what sm are like, theyre not saying red velvet hate being idols or that they want to do other activites, theyre saying sm treat girl groups like absolute garbage and just because red velvet say they want to cary on does not suddenly take sm's power off to fizzle them out, off the table.
