Great catches and an interesting view of how it used to be done! The old gear does a pretty good job of spreading the ballast , and the crew have certainly done this a few times! That Y class sounds twice as big as it is ..LOL
Thanks for braving the conditions to get these shots!
    Cheers Gregg.

Thanks Gregg! Very glad I went out for it, the Y doesn't see much use.

Nice little film and very nicely shot, however explanatory captions would make it great.
I know where the train went because I live up here but most viewers wouldn’t have a clue.
As to the operation itself please tell us what went on ✌️

Thanks for the comment! The train ran empty from Daylesford to Bullarto where the loco ran around to the other end of the train and the wagons were loaded. It then moved towards Musk and dropped ballast until the wagons were empty. It then pushed back to Bullarto so the train could be reloaded, and the process was repeated.

Looks to me like the driver is in a hurry, the hand signal whilst dropping ballast was slowly. As well as self lapping brake stops instead of using the No4 brake. Interesting.

As well as the speed propelling a train on a running line.

would be awesome to see steam on this railway and extension to Trentham and or beyond

They specialise in railmotors so I can't see steam being up there permanently, but you never know, one day a steam loco might have a temporary stay up there similar to Walhalla a few years ago when one of Puffing Billy's NA's went there for a while.
The Trentham extension is definitely on the cards and would be a fantastic asset to the region.
