I want to welcome you to the struggle stick, I shot 3D archery for 20 years and was pretty good. So I decided I wanted to shoot a longbow / recurve people don't realize this but it's a different ball game altogether I'm right handed but I shoot left-handed because my left eye is dominant what's a compound that's fine compound bow has let off recurve and longbow is just the opposite. The first recurve that I bought, I took it to the archery shop to have them test the poundage it was just 45 lb but I was used to shooting a recurve with high let off I thought it was like a 60 lb bow it was just 45 the biggest problem that I found is being overbowed , too much weight , I shoot it pretty good now but I do not have the confidence I need to actually try to take a deer with I'm thinking this year I'm going to break the ice with it, good luck I wish you well start off close and remember 15 yd is all you need the stick bows are made for up close and personal compound bows you can't shoot out to 50 yd

My garden let's me shoot from 5 - 20 metres, with the recurve I spent a week moving back from 5 to 20 metres, but of course I'm shooting plastic vanes just now so the kick to the right is pretty big, but I have some wooden feather fletched arrows coming next week with a cheapish Mongolian style bow
I much prefer shooting off shelf on the recurve with a bit of moleskin on it, and I look down the arrow as I'm drawing but focus on target and disregard arrow once drawn
Aiming at a 50cm straw target and I've only missed it once, yesterday it shot past target and hit the shed, passed straight through the back and out the front landing on my path, fortunately I lock the garden up so no one can get in
Hopefully not happen once I get those feather arrows going
On sights I do have 4 options I can attach, from just a single pin with no housing, 3 pin sight, recurve sight with the small circle on it, and I have a torch/laser pointer I can attach via a picatinny mount I bought for a bow, but I really don't like any of them, could see the torch/laser being useful for a hunter, but in daylight in the back garden it's not really required, though have been tempted to put it on the compound given how accurate it is using pin sight, place your dot, replace it with an arrow 😀 and if accurate could eliminate the need for peep
