Navy Electronics Technician - ET

  • The Navy is one of the most circuit-ridden and electrically charged entities in the world. We have wires running everywhere, to everything, and that means we need expert electricians. Navy Electronics Technicians are jacks-of-all-trades and since our electrical system powers almost everything we need, they are irreplaceable. Our equipment doesn’t just work, it withstands the harshest conditions thanks to our ETs. Whether you’re stationed on land or at sea, on a sub or a carrier, you have to be quick with your hands and smart with your solutions. See what it takes to be an ET at bit.ly/2rzG921.

Sounds accurate. You really don't understand what you're supposed to be doing a lot of the time like the guy said. They kinda call you up and say "This broke, you need to fix it" and sometimes it's stuff you didn't get training on.

    • @raybin6873
      @raybin6873 3 роки тому +39

The training of electrical /electronics - theory of electrical energy (Ohm's law - etc) is absolute important. Once understood you can fix anything - basic rules apply to all. Just have understanding of how Michael Farady / Clark Maxwell / Voltaire / Tesla / etc made their discoveries.
I bet the Navy has some very cool stuff to work on! 👍

Former ET here, 1980 to 1986. Got out as an ET1(SW). Looks like a lot of new stuff out there but I think I could still teach these folks some soldering skills! LOL 40+ years later and I still use and teach folks the US Navy 6 step troubleshooting method.

You lie. You might have made E5 in that time but no way to make E6 in 6 years. Minimun time in rate as an e4 to e5 is 1 year and time in rate from e5 to e6 is 3 years. So from the time you graduated et school and received e4 that would put you at the 7 year mark. Go Navy!

    Former Navy ET.
Boot in FLA in Aug of 88 and schooling (A and C) until May of 1990. I still made E-5 in less than 3 years. I was able to move up fast because I was well trained.
After reporting to my ship, they soon sent me back to attend AN/SPA-25G C school in Oct of 1990 at the 32nd St annex ET C “school house”.
As I remember it, that SPA was constantly over heating because it didn’t have an exhaust fan.
While in the gulf (the A/C wasn’t the best) I had to open it up almost every day to let heat out.
It frequently would flake out due to overheating and one of the CIC guys would wake me up at 3 am.
    Good times!

I believe it was the R-2368 replacing the R-1051. The AN/WSC-3 was a good rig. Not enough power. Hope they fixed that.

The key rule of thumb with electronics: Always keep the smoke on the inside.
I worked industrial environments - PLC's / freq.drives 3 ph /old school relay logic / hydraulics - up to 1,000 ton presses - directional valves - accumulators - etc / extruder - 400+ up motor controls / everything pneumatic / chillers - water treatment/maintenance / tons of mechanical stuff - welding etc - structural analysis.....product development (molded plastics). Worked on "turn key start ups" (A real joke of a term). Now retired....doing self-employed work as a handyman (repairing lots of cars tho! b'cuz of electronics).
    Maybe I should've joined Navy?
    Go Navy....good career 😜👍
