Hey folks, I hope you enjoy the vid. Keen to hear your thoughts about the lightweight swag. I can't wait to show you guys! Also, I would just like to say that I've had a few people ask me recently how they could support the channel, so I've decided to create a Patreon. If you enjoy my vids and find value in them, it would be great if you would consider supporting me. Thanks legends and I hope you're all well! www.patreon.com/scottysgonewalkabouts

Hey, Scotty, my name is Tony Yardley. I live in Alabama. I used to do a fair amount of camping when I was younger as I live near the foothills of the Smoky Mountains. Now I’m 67 and disabled and don’t get around so good. One of my dreams was to visit Australia but now it will never happen . Thank you for giving me a real taste of the Australian countryside. I look forward to your videos.

      Hey Fred,
Real sorry to hear about the health issues, but super glad you had the pleasure of Alabama and all those golden years of camping, 99% of other people could only dream of!
I've always dreamt of camping out that way for a week or more myself, one day after I fix a few health issues I'm facing myself!
      All the best pal

Finally a swag that will be designed for hiking and lightweight camping, not to be lugged around in a 4wd. Swags have moved so far from the traditional bedroll to accomodate thicker mattresses and more luxurious features that they have become completely impractical. I was searching for a decent quality lightweight swag for so long and the best I could come up with was the Darche Urban Nomad 700. Great idea Scotty and I think that I would definitely be interested in purchasing one in the future if you ever decide to manufacture it, it would be fantastic to have a swag you could take hiking. Keep it up and I love the channel 👍

I'm watching from Shinjuku (Tokyo), the centre of a 38 million people metropolis. I'm returning home to Australia in September and seeing this has me so hyped to come back. I've loved hiking and camping all over the Japan, with all its conveniences like high speed trains direct to/from trail heads, but I can't wait to come home and just sit by a creek and listen to the kookaburras.

A lightweight swag? Definitely! We have two 'swags' that are big and bulky and that's all you can find. I'm not an experienced camper but when I've come across an old fire at a camp spot that still has the cold 'charcoal' left from a previous fire I am grateful because it doesn't take long for these to get going and add a wee bit of fuel to a fire. But yeah I get what you are doing and applaud the care you take of our beautiful country!

For a water filter just use a %100 cotton bandana or towel, and run the water through it to remove corse material, and then just boil the water for several minutes and done. That way you dont have to spend money and waste time with filters. Just a suggestion. Great video once again, cheers scotty! 👍

I personally think that the lightweight swag is a great idea. I suppose its success will come down to how many people actually go hiking/camping or bushcrafting over here.
It seems to be much more popular in the US or even the UK where we seem to go more for 4wd type camping.
Maybe I just don't see it as much.
I do know buying quality lightweight gear, that you see them use overseas, here takes a lot of hunting and is very expensive.
Plenty of shops with the same brand name crap but once you try and get something a bit out of the ordinary you can struggle I have found.
All the best with it mate I hope it works out for you and you have had enough experience to know what is desirable.

Fletch 60 years ago at age 15 I hitch-hiked around Australia twice carrying my grandfather’s swag. It was a home-made tube of canvas with a sewn-in flanelette sheet. All my gear was rolled up in it and I carried it with a leather belt over my shoulder. Worked really well. Years later for pack-horse trips I bought a horse-riders swag made from oiled japara, very lightweight with a light foam mattress. Goes over the saddle easily and also fits into my narrow, tall rock-climbers rucksack.

sawyer did that to me too , just punch a hole in the bottom of the bag with a hole punch and hang it on a piece of string , dont have to squeeze the bag again , gravity feed, works well, also have that saw as well , be carefull of the c clip which holds the blade each end the one hear the handle sometimes pops out when you fold it i recommend getting another one as a spare to leave it in your pack you can change the blade to hardwood sandvik blade from the hardware store cuts even better .. have it good Bro....

Depends on price range mate. I work in the outdoor industry and have a Hilleberg Unna that's been used 150 nights in the past two years, still looks brand new. It's a hefty cost but easily worth it if you want a tent that'll last you a decade or more. If you're 2m tall(like me) or near it itll be a bit of a squeeze, but nothing too bad.

The forest beckons us, fills our thoughts. You can't stay at home anymore! You literally rip your jacket and backpack off the rack. You go on a journey where there are no people, and nature is especially beautiful. The smell of last year's wet needles and leaves is carried by warm air, which permeates you with a strong stream. You cannot get enough of it. The forest accepts us as we are. We are his guests, not his hosts. And we are grateful to him. How can it be boring for someone in this world to look at a drawing of veins on a green leaf for several hours?

Two things: great fire making skills! Also nice editing. You've got some good camera angles, cuts and music.
Oh, and lastly, thanks, because I haven't been camping this season, and appreciate the chill.

Great vid! Had to laugh when I saw that G&T soaking into you 😁 I know that feeling well.
Swag is a great idea, sounds like the versatility will be its main selling point, very keen to see what it looks like.

Beer by a campfire, followed by a cracking steak and spud (you can keep the green muck), and the sound of the creek in the background, that would have me sleeping like a baby!!

Nice spot Scotty, keep the vids coming, like the idea of a good lightweight swag for packing and hiking, yep swags these days need a ute to lug around, totally lost the purpose and practicality of what they were intended for ! Same as nothing beats a good ol oilskin

First time viewer Scotty. Pretty keen scrub and a sweet creek near the Blue mountains.
About time I got some homegrown bushcraft feed from Utube.
    Beautiful 👍🍍.Queensland

Found this video as it was suggested by YT. I have a good friend who lives in NSW and was over here last year to do the PCT but had to go back because of that damn virus. Yup, those Sawyer bags suck I never use them and have about 6 of them in a box. I use the CNOC bag and, if you have them, Smart Water bottle work great as well. Beautiful country and great vid! Cheers!

Hey Scotty, the thing about those water filters is they screw right on to a smart water bottle wich is much more durable. So you can carry two plastic water bottles, one is just to put clean water into and one to get the unfiltered water in, then use the bag for backup. Cheers Mate! Good to see you out again.

Mate that was unreal! What an incredible place. That's disappointing that the Sawyer bottle failed. I'm pretty sure the screw cap on the filter fits the pump bottle. If you are looking for a water bladder I use the Geigerrig Hydration Engine, It is bomb proof and designed really well. I have an inline filter on mine so I can fill up to 3L in a second from a creek and drink it right away. Not as compact as the sawyer ( I usually take both) but good to have. THE SWAG!!!! Can't wait to see it. You have a customer here!

G'day Scotty, thanks for another video, really keen to check out your swag, when it comes to filters the Grayl Geopress can't be beaten (in my opinion) and if the water source has a lot of particular matter in it just pre- filter with cotton material and that will to prolong the life of the filter. When it comes to char-cloth instead of using patches try rolling the material up like a sausage cut it to the width of your tin and then char it, works well, the rolled up ends give you more surface area to catch a spark, give it a go and see what you think.
Looking forward to the next instalment take care and travel safe, cheers 👍🏻🍻🇦🇺
