This is what I want from a $20 DLC: Reasonable priced, new and unique content that we haven't gotten from other previous Sims DLC's, and more world lots I am so confident and hope that this DLC will have an abundance of content (pretty sure its gonna have more content than Island Living) and be one of better DLC's than other DLC's Edit: Unfortunate that we only had 5 new lots (excluding the portal world lots) and it would be really nice to have double the amount of lots in this DLC.
9th Doctor I do not « want » to pay more... But there is a trade off, you obviously have a lot of new gameplay in this pack (compared to Strangerville which had a rather simple linear storyline), so you will have a more standard world size (similar to Vampires or Outdoor retreat).
Well yea, Maxis could add more content if they weren't published by EA. To me, adding more gameplay content but having a fewer world size is kinda lazy if you think about it. You can still add more lots while having an abundance of gameplay.
I'm so glad I looked up reviews before deciding to get Island Living. Turns out, not getting it wasn't such a bad idea. I bought this game pack last night, but didn't have time to play because of life and work this week. I'm excited to jump into it on the weekend, though.
Island living had a lot. You probably didn't expand on more of it. From Sulani to the new jobs to cleaning the island to make it look better and healthier to island spirits, to mermaids to the new people helping out in a fire to Kava bowls and so much more. I think Island Living was packed with stuff, just not what some people would play with so it seems small. This pack looks like a lot but I bet most people will get their fill in a few hours of playing, you know?
Not just blowing smoke, you by far are my go to source for info on the Sims 4. While you do share some of your opinions its not done in a way that drags the game or the developers and I appreciate that. Great overview of the deep dive and I agree it looks like it is the most bang for your buck.

honestly this pack sounds great, especially with the curses. i really would like ways for my sims to die more often & make things a little harder without having a household full of sims

Not a pack I would buy until much later, but it's nice to see the sims team put in a lot of work into a pack and have it turn out so well!! My only complaint would be that it wouldve beeen nice if they could place a single lot in the magic world. Even a small one would be cool.
This pack looks so good!! But then Seasons, Pets - Cats & Dogs and Magic are my top three fav packs for the sims, so I've been waiting a looooong time for this! lol. I think it would have been nice if the portal to the magic world was just the ruins/arc/collums and you had to colect at least 3 gems or something like that to activate the portal. I think it would've been a nice feature instead of just having the portal there in plain sight ready to enter

@@mason3461 Life states not being able to cross with one another. I think it's a bit limiting in a game about customisation and such like. I know there has to be limits to things and making a sim be two life states at once would mean more testing and work....but I think it would be better for players to be able to do that, but I guess EA thinks not. I think they should allow life states to merge, have a sim be up 3 life states at once. And have all the powers and abilities of each (Maybe to add challenge some abilities are weakened because of the shared life state but one or two at random get a boost). The dominant life state can be chosen in CAS, this life state is the state the sim likes to appear as most although you can change the appearance briefly if you want. With multiple life states to make it less messy, they don't change appearance when using abilities, just the set as the main one. If a sim has a new life state added, still, the main life state is the one chosen in CAS. If there isn't a life state chosen in CAS and the sim is vanilla human then if they turn into supernatural, the first thing they become is their main life state now with the two added ones added to a chain in the order they were gotten if they were gotten. I dunno something you know? Only being one life state seems like an arbitrary limitation because they don't want to deal with compatibility...in other words, it feels a bit lazy.
I agree. If I remember correctly you could mix vampire and witches in Sims 2. It would be fun to have a sim who is an alien vampire , or mermaid witch etc

I do like Charmed, but with the exception of the Book of Shadows, is the theming all that distinctive? They don't seem to wear any special clothes, or live in any special environment. It's the same problem for Bewitched. Aside from adding magic (including magical potions), the elements that are already available would probably be fine.
Yeah, there was definitely a Harry Potter vibe but the furniture could def work for Charmed and I thought the CAS objects were very reminiscent of The Magicians
The design style in this pack is called "art Nouveau" and yes its a real design between the years 1890 - 1910 and its largely used today in the life style of cosplay/sub-culture called "Steampunk". Just look it up on wikipedia = its a site with historical to modern description on everything that ever existed! Want to know about general military stuff look it up here, you find things like military ranks, why modern soldier wear camouflage in battle or how m&ms were used to help win wars? Just go to wikipedia like i said it has it all.
I'm so so so excited with this pack, but I also feel feel the same way you do lol. Definitely looking forward to modders improving it further. For instance, I know some will make it to where you can curse other sims and you can kill them via the spells.

Potion of Immortality!? Finally, I can stop turning my favorites sims in to vampires while everyone else can progress with their age. And I hope the resurrection spell is easier than cooking and gardening specific rewards.
Should be really easy as you can buy deathflowers from those little magic vendors, actually looks like you can buy all the ingredients so won't need to forage at all unless you like the grind.
I agree with another commenter I saw on pixelhead I wish we had the power to bind/steal power with our wand too especially during duels maybe a modder would grace us with that...
It actually looks worth the money, at least for people who love to play with magic and supernaturals (like me). I'm genuinely super excited for this, it almost looks like it's as much content as in island living, just that it's a game pack! I can't wait to get it!!

It had be good if we can find unspecified familiars and tame it. Not just the 11 familiars that are there by design. It would be like Pokemon all over.
I got a suggestion. They should have like familiar tournament. Like pokemon. And like familier gives off rare material and spells that will definitely improve the game. And they should make each familiar have uniques abilities.
I am SO EXCITED for this pack. Magic and everything fantasy was my absolute favourite thing about the Sims 3, and I am SO happy they brought it back, and IMPROVED it. I Just wish I could pre-order the pack on Origin, BUT ITS NOT THERE YET. -_-

I really thought this was an expansion pack based on all the content and was considering whether or not I should buy it since I like mostly realistic gaming but it’s nice to see that it’s actually a game pack which makes it worth it even for the build-buy items alone 👍🏼
I'm actually very glad that the wands aren't boosting powers. It gives more customization to how YOU want to play it, rather than how you have to in order to become stronger.
I hope that the new potion of youth from the alchemy branch will set your age back to young adult, and not just reset your current age. We don't have any legit (without cheats, think about console players) way to make a sim young again.
That would be great if it did that but I'm not hopeful as seeing as this would be new to TS4 I think the devs would have probably mentioned it in detail.

Thank you for summing that up - I appreciate not having to sit through the whole stream and just get the highlights. I'm mostly interested in the build items, and I have to say i'm not as excited by what I see, but maybe that will change once I play around with it. It just didn't have that "witches and wizards" vibe to it, for me.
As someone who loves gameplay most of this looks amazing. But am I the only one who wonders about completely unique spells and alchemy recipes? Haven't really seen that yet. You can already manipulate emotions/certain behaviors a million different ways (potions, paintings, lights/objects, clubs, holidays, fruit from Jungle Adventure and so on), instantly repair stuff, clone objects and sims (Get To Work), freeze sims with freeze ray, hire a maid or a butler. Not saying that these "new" ways aren't good, just that I really hope we get a few completely unique witchy ones aswell. :)
Agree, was saying this earlier. I guess that if you have all the packs then this isn't quite so fun as, like you say, you can already do most of these things one way or another. I was hoping that RoM would bring something completely new and unique for the spellcaster to do too. I suppose the fun comes from playing thru the spellcaster progression tree and the new world
I had no idea this was just a Gamepack- they seem to have a huge amount of variation in what they put in packs and expansions- parenthood was as good as a full expansion and Strangerville was pretty detailed if limited use. The camping one was ok- I'm not planning on getting the Island one bc honestly it doesn't seem like there's as much to do for Sims that don't live there. But this seems very detailed and fun

@@merchantfan Well devs tell us expansion are broad in scope whereas game packs very narrow and only focus on one aspect of game play, so that description fits. But there just seems less content in IL for example than RoM, it's that discrepancy that confuses me. I don't have any answers for that either lol I would have thought a more expensive expansion pack would have noticeably more content than a cheaper game pack.

It doesn't make much sense to me- this is probably going to be popular, why not add on a few more extra content (like I don't know they could do a quest with the world falling apart thing) and make it a expansion pack which costs more? The amount of content in IL, Pets, and City Living really didn't seem that impressive from the reviews. Pets went from the Sims 3 thing which had horses (and a ton of content with them between riding and racing) and small pets to not even including hamsters.... I bought all the Pets expansions for other Sims games but skipped that one bc it just seemed underwhelming and not very deep

Magic has always been my favourite thing wih The Sims, I loved the good and bad witches system as well as the fairies but this, this looks pretty cool! I hope we'll be able to turn items into gold again! When is this pack coming up?

GlimmerBrook reminds me of Mystic falls with the werewolf mod we can recreate that and theres plenty of houses in the library that has 2 house to put on one lot to help get the most of the 5 lots with the bigger 1 being the Salvador mansion...Im siked for this I think the closes I would get to Harry potter would be pufferhead mod pack...I'm hoping when the bring werewolves they would give a gypsy trait to bounce off the old werewolf movie

Well there's always that open area world that they put for us to build houses.
This is standard world size for Game packs though, bigger worlds are for expansions.

You know sims 4 is family friendly. but don't worry, probably extreme violence gonna allow you that like it did with vampires.

The inferniate spell can actually be cast on the ground and if it catches a sim on fire it can kill them. Or so they've said.

I really thought this was an expansion pack based on all the content and was considering whether or not I should buy it since I like mostly realistic gaming but it’s nice to see that it’s actually a game pack which makes it worth it even for the build-buy items alone 👍🏼

I'm actually very glad that the wands aren't boosting powers. It gives more customization to how YOU want to play it, rather than how you have to in order to become stronger.

I hope that the new potion of youth from the alchemy branch will set your age back to young adult, and not just reset your current age.
We don't have any legit (without cheats, think about console players) way to make a sim young again.
That would be great if it did that but I'm not hopeful as seeing as this would be new to TS4 I think the devs would have probably mentioned it in detail.

Thank you for summing that up - I appreciate not having to sit through the whole stream and just get the highlights. I'm mostly interested in the build items, and I have to say i'm not as excited by what I see, but maybe that will change once I play around with it. It just didn't have that "witches and wizards" vibe to it, for me.

As someone who loves gameplay most of this looks amazing. But am I the only one who wonders about completely unique spells and alchemy recipes? Haven't really seen that yet. You can already manipulate emotions/certain behaviors a million different ways (potions, paintings, lights/objects, clubs, holidays, fruit from Jungle Adventure and so on), instantly repair stuff, clone objects and sims (Get To Work), freeze sims with freeze ray, hire a maid or a butler. Not saying that these "new" ways aren't good, just that I really hope we get a few completely unique witchy ones aswell. :)
Agree, was saying this earlier. I guess that if you have all the packs then this isn't quite so fun as, like you say, you can already do most of these things one way or another. I was hoping that RoM would bring something completely new and unique for the spellcaster to do too. I suppose the fun comes from playing thru the spellcaster progression tree and the new world

is there a spell to change age of a Sim? Like turning a young adult into teen or vice versa.
I had no idea this was just a Gamepack- they seem to have a huge amount of variation in what they put in packs and expansions- parenthood was as good as a full expansion and Strangerville was pretty detailed if limited use. The camping one was ok- I'm not planning on getting the Island one bc honestly it doesn't seem like there's as much to do for Sims that don't live there. But this seems very detailed and fun
I know, I was just discussing this with Carl, the way the content varies between game packs and expansions is crazy. Confuses me if I'm honest.

@@merchantfan Well devs tell us expansion are broad in scope whereas game packs very narrow and only focus on one aspect of game play, so that description fits. But there just seems less content in IL for example than RoM, it's that discrepancy that confuses me. I don't have any answers for that either lol I would have thought a more expensive expansion pack would have noticeably more content than a cheaper game pack.
@@playalot8513 That's what it was like in Sims 3- I wonder if they're given the same amount of time for each? It doesn't make much sense to me- this is probably going to be popular, why not add on a few more extra content (like I don't know they could do a quest with the world falling apart thing) and make it a expansion pack which costs more? The amount of content in IL, Pets, and City Living really didn't seem that impressive from the reviews. Pets went from the Sims 3 thing which had horses (and a ton of content with them between riding and racing) and small pets to not even including hamsters.... I bought all the Pets expansions for other Sims games but skipped that one bc it just seemed underwhelming and not very deep
@@merchantfan yeah, I try very hard not to compare TS4 to TS3 all the time. It's difficult not to but when you do, well... it isn't very flattering to TS4!

Magic has always been my favourite thing wih The Sims, I loved the good and bad witches system as well as the fairies but this, this looks pretty cool! I hope we'll be able to turn items into gold again! When is this pack coming up?

I got the pack two days ago and I LOVE IT!! I’m still shocked it’s better than the Living Island Expansion Pack and cheaper.
i'll definitely wait till its in the newest repack before i go and re-download the whole thing, the art nouveau furniture are really nice, not gonna lie

GlimmerBrook reminds me of Mystic falls with the werewolf mod we can recreate that and theres plenty of houses in the library that has 2 house to put on one lot to help get the most of the 5 lots with the bigger 1 being the Salvador mansion...Im siked for this I think the closes I would get to Harry potter would be pufferhead mod pack...I'm hoping when the bring werewolves they would give a gypsy trait to bounce off the old werewolf movie
