How to make a flower arrangement - FLORISTRY/FLOWER ARRANGING - Vintage style - no foam

- This week I'm taking at look at some vintage style arranging with some simple white flowers and no foliage.
This design uses wire netting, often called chicken wire to hold the flowers into place. This method is more environmentally friendly and doesn't use any floral foam, so much kinder to our planet.
Rather than creating a geometric shape, like a triangle or a round shape this design follow the natural shapes of the individual flowers, making the most of their lines and curves. So you end up with a much less structured design, something informal and more natural.
If you are new to arranging, take a few minutes to view my Back to Basics series which will explain how to create a very all round arrangement using a minimal amount of flowers.

Love to learn more about historical floral designs. I've search for books on historical flower arranging with no success.
Try a NAFAS book, I've linked it in my comment above
Is it possible to get this book if you live in the US?
I'm sure they will ship to the US. Give them a call
That is beautiful Sharon.. I'm going to keep a look out for a container that shape and give it a go 😍
I'm a bit obsessed with charity shops and car boots sales!!
So beautiful🌼🌼🌼🌱🌱😍
Dainty and pretty, I love this one too
Lovely Sharon, I would love to know how to create a flower ball centrepiece, I think they are stunning.
Great suggestion!
Love this design. Would like to see a spiral design and an all foliage design. Thank you
Thanks again for watching, I love the darker foliage
That was beautiful. I did try the heart arrangement for valentine. But couldnt find the hearts , so used a small raffier heart but it didn't work . But will try this Georgian style . Thank you for inspiring me. I do like to try thing. .
Well done for having a go, its a shame you couldn't get the right size hearts, but keep looking, you might find something soon.
That’s a beautiful arrangement, Sharon! I have a question about using chicken wire. Do you treat it to prevent it from rusting in the water?
If it's galvanised wire, it doesn't rust. If I'm reusing it, I would clean it in hot soapy water first.
Enjoyed the idea of this being influenced by historical design. Can you recommend any books on the subject?
Try a NAFAS book, I've linked it in my comment above
Thanks 😊

Have only just started watching your videos Sharon, I am learning so much. I have to do an arrangement for WI competition at the end of May I will be using a small christening bible in white with cream white and maybe lemon flowers I think the pussy willow would add a lovely touch do you think this would work with the tiny bible in the middle ? Or maybe your oval Easter design with pussy willow.
So many choses, but I'm sure you will do an amazing job, just think your design needs to be in scale with the bible.
@@sharondower Wow thank you for such a quick response, Yes i will take that into consideration . Many thanks
