One of the better explanations for how to handbrake entry that i’ve seen. Glad you are sharing this with us and breaking it down! Maybe a remake with the beans at Tsukuruma? Remind the kids that they dont need horsepower to get sliding haha
I also started getting emotional during this video, all those shots of Oran Park make me miss it more than anywhere. Best motorsport facility in Australia by a long way. I remember ducking debris from cars crashing many times because you could get so close to the track. Oran Park town can EAD
18:55 this is still done on racing/track day motorcycles to prevent potential fluid spill (usually with a wrist sweat band). Riding over spilt brake fluid on a motorcycle is scary and obviously dangerous.
This is why Alexi is who he is, not an imitator & a total OG legend!!! I was right there with you, own every issue HPI & Drift Battle mag/DVD. I'd eat, sleep, & breath it! (still do😅) Listened to you religiously on this DVD, tried to set-up my own 180SX same as yours back then.
Alexi you're an OG in so many ways. Just by watching this old tutorial we can appreciate the spirit of the original Noriyaro... it's just more polished and experienced these days. The saddest thing about this video is that it looks like it was recorded at Oran Park, one of the best circuits in Australia that was sadly torn down a few years ago to make space for housing development. Same fate as Riverside in the US, which was demolished to make space for malls, parking lots and all of that rubbish.
This takes me back, I loved Drift battle and HPI! They were sold here in NZ and were way more JDM than other mags available here(although JDM wasn't really a thing then) I did the 180 too, r33 gtr wheels, nardi deep corn and a pair of brixs, perfection!

1:27 - love that as soon as it faded in on the track, I saw the Yokohama bridge and was like 'yep that's Oran Park!' despite never having been there before xD Growing up in the UK my main Australian car import fix back then was the V8 Supercars championship, loved watching the re-runs and as-live broadcasts - most of which the official channel have put up on UA-cam now, which is a real treat! - and Oran Park was one of my favourite circuits on the calendar. Such a shame it's not with us anymore, but at least it got scanned into iRacing and other sim racing games, so it lives on in virtual form at least! Also as a 1990s kid I popped at 5:01 for the mobile phone/speaker sound, that's as much a part of my youth as the dial-up broadband sound xD
OP North is still my favourite out of all the tracks. So many track days with Initial Drift that we took for granted at the time. Such a shame what happened to it.

Hell yeah, i remember this haha, i remember taking that dvd to school and watching it on the tv trolley one rainy lunchtime 😂 there were only 3 of us out of the whole year level watching it, everyone else was talking, mostly about phones 😂
Been drifting on the simulator for a couple years now, letting the steering wheel self align and catch it is the most natural way i found when learning drifting. When i started learning i never let go of the wheel entirely but i let it instead slip it through my fingers while still keeping a light amount of hand grip on it so i could feel when it's the right time to gently clench my hands and catch it. After a bit of practice and getting used to it, you can be smoother and smoother by just adjusting your hands pressure on the wheel as it spins and self aligns during the drift. This is the kind of technique that comes most natural on drift cars and tight mountain roads, while if i were racing on faster but still twisty roads i would instead keep a good hold of the wheel and feel the tire grip that way, using throttle and brake to move the car weight around and initiate the 4 wheel drift that way instead of going for max angle, so one technique per kind of driving. i'm no pro by any means and so far i have experience only in the sim but man that's fun, my favourite combo is the good old 86 for angle and something like a 70's mustang for faster and longer slides but with less angle on the Targa Florio map on AC. 70+km of twisty roads, no worries for fuel, crashing or the sorts, just pure fun, i highly recommend it.
@@darksenshi1337 only sim game ive really played is assetto corsa modded but its great ive gotten pretty good at drifting and i think you should give it a try
@@darksenshi1337 assetto corsa is the go to for drifting but also CarX, BeamNG are very good. Just know that direct drive wheels don't work properly on CarX but if you have a Logitech or thrust master, you're golden. Try different cars, the Toyota ae86 with the drift tune that comes as default in AC is a great place to start learning, jump into the drift map and practice there. BeamNG is significantly more difficult because you have also extensive damage simulation but it can be very rewarding once you start getting how the cars behave and it's super fun even when you end up wrapping your car around a tree. Look for ctoretto drifting tutorials, the dude explains pretty well the basics. Another one worth watching is TheSimRacingBloke (TSB) for expainations of the car dynamics. If you've raced F1 you might know how do drive to the limit of grip and how to rotate the car in corners with brake and throttle control, the next step would be intentionally brake traction and send it sideways and learn how to countersteer to hold angle. Effectively what you're doing with drifting is steering the cars with brake and throttle to shift weight while the steering is for direction and adjusting the trajectory. Low powered cars like the AE86 are the best to start learning, then once you get the hang of it you can try higher powered cars (300+ hp) for bigger angle, quicker transitions etc.
