I love how the reports touches on some mysteries from the story, yet leaves other information shrouded in the dark. That Mystery feeling is what I love about these reports. And The End of the World's music really adds to this Report Reading too.
One thing I love about these secret reports that no one ever seems to talk about, is that you get them in the game in anachroic order. You get all the odd numbered reports by playing through the game normally, and get the rest, excluding 11-13, from Aerith in Hollow Bastion, and get 8 from defeating Hades. This functions so well as a bait-and-switch, because the odd numbered reports, 1, 3, 5, 7, & 9, when you read them in order without the context of the even numbered reports in between, feels like it's written by someone who does his research out of pure curiosity and benevolence. Then you get the rest of the reports from Aerith, and you're shown the horrible things that Ansem has done for the sake research, like extracting darkness from one's heart, implanting said darkness in another's heart, and artificially create heartless. This is something that I've always been fascinated and impressed by, as there was a lot of foresight made to write and distribute these reports in such a way that when you get all of them, it completely changes the context of the things you've read so far.
Do you think it’s possible that when he refers to the one that “did not become a heartless and retained its memories” that he was referring to a earlier version of Xemnas? Since that would be the first time he encountered a Nobody?
@@atsukana1704 my thoughts are that once ansem was defeated, that Xemnas appeared in Hollow Bastion to see how powerful Sora was to defeat Ansem. Since goofy mistakes Xemnas for Ansem, I assume their voices were similar enough for them to be mistaken for one another.
The mystery in this game is incredible, never have I ever wondered if there was something I missed, a secret hidden away waiting to be found, the way the report is worded and the sheer disregard for the people he calls "test subjects" and their lives before suffering such an awful fate whilst combined with my own morbid curiosity of wanting to see how it all happened makes me feel so odd.
He really messed up naming those creatures. They *are* hearts, so naming them Heartless makes no sense. ...and then they went on to call the *bodies* left behind *no*bodies...
the purebred heartless were discovered first, which truly are without hearts, heartless, and the name just kinda stuck, keeping it even when emblem heartless, those with hearts, were discovered
You're taking the name too literally. They are Heartless because they've become so consumed by the darkness, they've been reduced to animalistic behaviors. Meanwhile, Nobodies are named as such because they're "no one". They have no true identity, no ties to light and darkness, not even a true body. Once they die, nothing will remain of them. They're in the purest sense imaginable "Nobody".

@@Cast-Carnival Correct. 11-13 were added when KHFM released back in December 2002. Though I will say that they had the idea of the Nododies long before KH2 (2005), which is why he made them the villains of CoM (2004).
@@sneezywhimsicott8118 As explained in the KH2 reports, the every entry except the first one was actually written by Apprentice Xehanort. The ones in 2 are from the actual Ansem the Wise.
The wise up till #10 when SOD took over The tone of the writing shifts drastically, and it matches the chronology confirmed to us in kh2 (SOD did the swap after the wise met Mickey)

Ansem SOD Never even spoke to him during that point (Hell if at all if we consider that fact that chronologically this Ansem SOD is just Xehanort in Terra's body, and the only Xehanort King Micky knew of was old man Xehanort back in Birth By Sleep) so that had to have been Ansem The Wise up to report 10.
7:40 okay, i was gonna make fun of how faux-symbolic the whole darkness stuff is and then you get to Report 12 "And the world inbetween." "Wherein lies true nirvana?" considering CoM and KH2 that's actually really sick, wish we got more of this instead of KH tearing down its own legacy

The final 2-3 reports were added in Final Mix, which also added Xemnas. So by that time it absolutely was.
