More than happy to support two (now three!) great people who love the outdoors. Congrats on the growth of the channel, can't wait to see the new adventures! Going to be a great summer!
Hi Tony, I'm glad you brought this up, because it gives me an opportunity to explain part of the problem. The UA-cam algorithm highly favours channels with very frequent uploads in order to grow quickly. We typically film about 3 hours of raw footage per video, or each day of the trip. It takes me just 2-3 hours to turn that raw footage into what professional editors like myself would refer to as a basic "string-out edit" of all the usable content from the day in the editing timeline, usually amounting to a 1h 30m long video. Some channels upload that basic string-out edit directly to UA-cam, and subsequently grow very quickly on the platform because it's actually quite easy to produce videos like that. If I wanted to, I could upload the entire trip that way in less than a week, with a new 1h+ long video every day, and grow considerably faster. However, that doesn't challenge me personally as a filmmaker, and it takes much, much more time (sometimes weeks) to transform that 3 hours of raw footage into the 10-20 minute highly detailed edits that you see from us, which are more akin to cinematic experiences... but that's where the video really transforms from just a pure documentation into storytelling - through pacing, intensity, energy, artistry and brevity in the edit. Subsequently, it takes much more time & resources to produce them, and we grow considerably slower. Also, if I were filming a video in the city (for a client as an example), I have a clearer idea of what to expect and what I need to capture, which significantly reduces the amount of raw footage filmed in order to tell the story, and also reduces the amount of editing time required. Though when we film in places like Algonquin Park, we wake up in the morning not knowing how the day will unfold, so we film considerably more footage, and also try our best to give the audience a good sense of what all the individual lakes, rivers and portages look and feel like. Also, filming in 4K (compared to 1080p) takes much more energy to keep powered out there off the grid, and I spend several hours of my time every day of the trip just setting up solar panels, charging batteries and backing-up media each night in the tent. I'm just a small, passionate filmmaker who cares deeply about sharing these beautiful places so that future generations value them... but I think it's important to note that artists like Mozart, DaVinci and even iconic Algonquin painter Tom Thomson all had patrons who offered them some support. I will always prioritize quality over quantity; many artists are driven by the love of their craft (and not by money) ...but we have to eat too :)
So happy to to see you two again. Looking terrific and Cedar is so cute! Standing by for our next adventure. You guys bring much needed peace in this beautiful world. Love...
This is one of my favorite channels. With everything going on in the world it’s nice just to sit back and relax while watching your next adventure. I’ve been to Algonquin 6 times. I miss it everyday, but with your channel I can relive it. Thank you. PS can you have a video where you discuss your gear, specificity your camera gear. I’m looking for a dslr that takes great shots while being a good vloging camera.
Woohoo its seems like forever since i last seen an update from you lovely ladies and not forgetting master Cedar, cant wait to see the trip to Algonquin :) hope you are all well x
I am from Drummond Island in Michigan. I have bought three of your shirts so far. They are wonderful. So glad you will be posting more! Love you three!
Awe! Thank you so much for all your support CB - we really appreciate it! So cool that you're from Drummond Island - so many great memories touring around there when I lived in Sault Ste. Marie. Beautiful place :)
Just stumbled onto your channel this morning. Lots of canoieng....as a home based full time paddle builder (Thunder Bay), this looks like a channel I should be watching. Just subscribed.
You are so right about Swift Canoes. We bought a Swift Keewaydin 17’ a few years ago and we absolutely love it (albeit our canoe isn’t as pretty as the red one that they loaned to you - no fancy paint job on ours). Looking forward to your next set of videos!
"HAPPY TO SUBSCRIBE AND SUPPORT YOUR CHANNEL" I really enjoy your content and your video quality and editing are second to none. To anyone that's reading this that finds value and enjoys there content please consider showing your support. The equipment they use is not cheap and the work that goes into filming and editing should not be taken for granted. Even just a couple bucks a month (which I doubt any of us will miss) can really add up for them. Look at there subscriber count and you do the math even a little bit can add up so don't think a very small donation wouldn't matter because it will. So go ahead and show your support I'm sure they'd really appreciate it.
Wow ladies...greetings from Portland, OR...I just want to say thank you for all of the wonderful content. I can’t wait to see this coming season of your videos. Good Luck!
Looking forward to your videos, whatever they are about. They are skillfully filmed, very easy to view and are very nature inspirational (is that even a word? LOL). Hope to see some more canoe/Algonquin stuff. God speed and thumbs up from Sweden!
CAN'T WAIT ! Hope all is good with your parents cottage. Lots of flooding here along the Ottawa River. Our daughter spent most of our canoe trip in a life jacket AND water wings. LOL
Once the little gaffer can stand, do a photo shoot with him and that red canoe, maybe with all the camping stuff scattered around it...title "Cedar Strip Canoe"! And a mini keychain paddle for him to chew on :-) Great to see you three again. Great start to the day.
Great seeing all three of you, looking forward to your new adventures.lil man is growing fast. Blessings, and remember to keep making memories. Memories and love are what makes lifes journey worth living. Till next time......
Thank you for the wonderful content! Your channel helped keep my spirits up this gloomy winter. And it motivated my husband and me to finally plan an Algonquin trip just for the two of us. Thanks! Looking forward to more incredible stories :).
Hi guys, well last evening my husband and I were down at the beach fishing and happened to meet this Canadian couple who were traveling around New Zealand, in such a short time we had this great connection, anyway caught a couple of nice fish and gave them one to take back to their camper van for tea, it's autumn here now but still quite warm so this couple and us were just making the most of mother nature still capped off by a stunning sunset 😊😊
Hey guys. having just found your channel. Im hugely impressed. Just bought a shirt and will gladly send you a pic of it from here in Queensland Australia. Keep the great content coming. Cheers
Waiting for the day to see Cedar starting a canoe trip from "far North Algonquin's" Cedar Lake. Funny that you mentioned Swift Canoe loaning a canoe for your tripping experience in Algonquin. I lived in South River on the western wide of Algonquin Park off Highway 11 and we had a Swift canoe making assembly plant in town. Wonderful people and great canoes.
looking forward to watching the new season of videos from yas :) it helps knowing that they're being done so close to home :) as i'm just a couple hours soputh of Algonquin :)
It is so great to see you ladies back! Bonus, got to see little man Cedar!!! What a lucky young man to have such great, outdoor loving mommies. If he chooses to marry a young lady, he will know how to treat her. Keep doing what you do! I am going to try to comment on every video if I catch it soon enough.
Congratulations you two, you guys are gonna be wicked parents. I'm not able to help on patreon but I wouldn't mind at all if you guys put a few more ads in your videos to help compensate some costs. Much Love Eric

Glad to see you guys back....Iam going to look into becoming a patron..I’ve been watching you guys to long not to....Your baby is beautiful...Looking forward to spring trip and many more.....⛺️🔥🛶🙂🙂
Ladies...yes, you! Where have you been hiding...lol. Just discovered your channel and OMG how refreshing it is. I've been outdoors my whole life, long story short have never canoe camped. First off, you two are FANTASTIC. Interesting and informative videos. And the power of both of you together leaves people wanting to come back for more. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but Chris is so calm and serious that I can see her in the middle of an emergency shrugging her shoulders and taking control. And Julia seems like the firecracker of the team. And I gotta say, Chris...I watched your video on how you and Julia met, and how you asked her to marry you...it had me in tears. Anyway, rambling sorry. Glad I discovered your channel, winter vids my favs. I look forward to catching up to current videos and checking out local rental canoes in my area. Thanks again for the great channel, and yes Julia, I will wear my life jacket...ttfn
I’m so excited to watch the new series, how long from now are you planning on releasing it? 😍 I’ve always loved your series, gonna be so neat to see Julia tackle the Algonquin backcountry while pregnant 💪🏼 Also, Cedar is so big now, so handsome!
Chris Prouse yay! If you could see me you’d see me doing my happy dance hahah. Can’t wait. As always, all the best to you and your beautiful little family ❤️ thanks for always providing us such awesome vids and most of all being an inspiration to many!
Haha, if they have the most Canadians on the team! ;) I really miss watching playoff hockey (I don't have cable anymore). Best of luck to Dallas though! :)
I was going to say that Cedar was absolutely adorable and then I thought, "well, yeah because he has two of the most gorgeous moms ever." And then it struck me that I hadn't even considered the fact that that it takes a sperm to have a baby and two gorgeous mommies don't fill in all the genetic data. And then I felt glad I hadn't said anything because I'm such a dummy I forgot how babies are made. But then I thought about it some more and realized...wow, wouldn't it be the nicest thing in the world if everyone could just forget that and see two mommies or two daddies as being every bit as natural and normal as a mom and a dad? We need a world where people forget who needs to be involved with the genes and just says, isn't that a gorgeous baby, and he has a pair of gorgeous mommies. That's my epiphany for the day. I hope you all are well. Thanks for sharing.
When we first saw your channel about camping and Algonquin park we were very impressed with you guys. Unfortunately over the last year it's turned into sponsor plugging and now money for the channel. Good luck in the future but we are unsubscribing.
Hi Mason, sorry to hear. Unfortunately, low-volume, higher-quality content just doesn't grow very quickly on UA-cam. It takes me just a few hours to make what professional editors like myself would refer to as a string-out edit of the day's usable content, and then from there I could upload a basic hour long video to UA-cam like some other channels do with ease... but I spend weeks crafting each video, because that's where the story really comes to life, through pacing, energy, intensity, and brevity in the edit - I will always choose quality over quantity. If I'm being 100% honest though, ad-sense at this present stage doesn't come even remotely close to covering the level of time, effort and resources that go into them. Please know that I regularly turn down sponsors who don't fit with the channel, and I held off asking for support as long as possible. Even iconic Algonquin painter Tom Thomson had a patron who supported his work. In the meantime, I'm just a small passionate filmmaker who cares deeply about sharing these beautiful places so future generations value them... but I have to eat too :)
@@ChrisProuse Oh I do understand and we weren't judging in the slightest. We just think it's good to give feedback when we unsubscribe. Every person is different and we're not in your situation. Well except for the naked people! Congratulations on the new family member and we wish you all the best.
It was nice meeting you too Mason - if you miss our Algonquin videos, I should mention our next trip series in the park (set to begin releasing in a week) will be the same as our last trip, with no direct promotions or requests for support in the videos, other than listing Ontario Parks and Swift in the end credits... but the format is unchanged and no different from our previous trips. It's the first Algonquin trip filmed with our newer (much better) camera, in a fantastic part of the park which features our favourite lake, so we're really excited to share it :)
