It was an absolute honour to be acknowledged so far and wide for this discovery. I hope you found this interesting too.

I remember when the debug mode for the Jak and Daxter trilogy was discovered, some 8ish years after the game's release. Runs that use it have their own category now, so I guess that'll happen here.
The fact that it involves exploring the code to find that secret.. This is extremely fitting for Nier Automata, especially with all the hacking that's involved with the game. How damn fitting lmao GREAT find, my dude! And congratulations for finding it.

He opened some game file, probably a list of all function names, and then searched through the hex data for ones that were never called in the game. One he found one he just looked at what it converted to in text on the right side, and saw that it was called a cheat menu

They'll probably have to make an any% sub-category for this so that normal any% can still be run by those that want to. Similar to how, IIRC, Super Mario World had an end credits wrong warp that caused some controversy when it was first discovered.
@@richanater99 well we could say that about a lot of speedruns with ending warps for example, but like said before, they will just make a category and belive me that people will find ways to juice some extra mileseconds at everyturn and on that first boss for the competition

I did this by mistake, and normally got really pissed. But after I found out that the “people” helping me during the ending credits shooting segment were all players that sacrificed their save files. I felt honored.

Finally the final secret has been discovered! It's been in the back of my mind ever since it was mentioned.. I'm so happy to see what it is and even thought it wasn't a massive lore dump or final plot twist, it's mindblowing seeing how specific and thought out this cheat code is. PlatinumGames are truly the best game developers whose games I've had the pleasure to play.
This is still my favorite game to date. Even just catching the first few notes of any of the songs conjures up strong emotions. I got the platinum without taking shortcuts or buying trophies and I would do it all again.
Can i unlock A2 using this cheat? I don't really care about the endings and I just too lazy to play as 9s, all i want is to play as A2 as soon as possible :(

For those on Xbox: Hold right trigger in the location listed in the video, then on the D-Pad hit Up, Down, Up, Right, Left, X, B, Y, A. Couldn't find the quick menu he was talking about (at least it didn't pop up full screen like the one he had); just do this quickly so you remain in the spot he indicated in the video. Tested and working as of 7:57PM EST 1/4/2021.
The quick menu is the "View button" on the Xbox controller (Button 3 from support.xbox.com/en-US/help/hardware-network/controller/xbox-one-wireless-controller). Tested it out on my XSX just then.

I must say it still seems like a complete troll move as, unless there is some way to quickly level up, accessing chapter select at so low a level makes it almost impossible to beat the later enemy encounters. Now that I listen to it back it's certainly Kira, it didn't click immediately due to her performance as 2B being different from her usual voice but it's definitely her. She's had a really interesting assortment of roles on her resume, and I'm now remembering there's a chance her and Kyle will have a cameo in RepliCant 1.5.

I wonder if this is how the developers uploaded a batch of characters and messages to help the first players, so no one ever actually had to beat the final boss on their own.
That would make a bundle of sense! I was wondering how there was people to assist me, yet a handful of them were defeated in my process. To me that meant some people out there would have had to defeat the maximum final boss with either no help or no damage once they got help. Otherwise every single person beating the game would subtract from the pool of help and never add.
@@Inferno505 Or the game just recycles every added person instead of removing the defeated ones. That would deplete the pool very quickly. Also, there were probably tons of QA testers who finished the game before any player did.
@@weaverquest QA testers work on a separate environment that is not connected to production PSN, so these don't count, but there is a ton of different options than actually playing the game after release to add more characters to help in the final sequence :P
@@OkaNyeba Yeah for sure it is not like this is even a problem to solve. Still I am wondering what was intended for the first person to beat the game connected to PSN. Probably just random names on the game's servers generated by the devs.
@@weaverquest The only thing your client recieves on the ending scene is the playernames. The rest of the stuff isn't even recorded gameplay of others, it's just your ship with many others . For starters, devs could have input a small namelist with some messages in final release build or if they were really trying to treasure it, taken data from the QA testers. And yes on their end they could always go ahead and do stuff. They most likely didn't need to worry about Sony asking them stuff. The real reason why this thing exists is probably just to let devs run tests on clean release builds without having to resort to savefiles.
Just ran across this again. Very cool and great work reverse engineering the code to figure it out. When Yoko Taro said somebody would 'get in trouble' if this was found I'm betting it's because of the game crash if you're in the system menu. Quality Assurance usually isn't thrilled to leave in something that causes an easily replicable game crash. The obscurity of the code means that obviously nobody was going to stumble into it, but once discovered it means anybody who isn't careful can trigger the crash and that's no good.

They weren't. This is not meant to be found within the game. It's meant to be a reward for a fan who is as crazy about this game as yoko taro to dig through the code, and find out the secret that had eluded so many up to this point. It's a meta game, a game outside the game.
There’s probably a shit ton of clues around, outside of looking through game flies. Since the cheat code itself was the same as in Bayonetta, there are probably clues in other games.
Live works in weird ways. I never heard anything about this game and never searched anything on it within the past week and a half. I literally just got this game for Christmas because my friend got it for me. I just got ending E yesterday. And now all of a sudden, I get this stuff on my recommended. What a perfect timing! Just finished the game last week and gave up all the data. Love the game, but couldn't get back to it because of having to redo the whole thing again. This is one of the coolest easter eggs and now you can claim it as yours. Be proud and congratulations to you!
Recently I ended up deleting my safe files for the end without doing everything I wanted so this is really a big save for me. I had given up on playing the game again because I finished it recently and I like to give it time before replaying any game. So thank you for this.

I wonder if this is how the developers uploaded a batch of characters and messages to help the first players, so no one ever actually had to beat the final boss on their own.
That would make a bundle of sense! I was wondering how there was people to assist me, yet a handful of them were defeated in my process.
To me that meant some people out there would have had to defeat the maximum final boss with either no help or no damage once they got help. Otherwise every single person beating the game would subtract from the pool of help and never add.
@@Inferno505 Or the game just recycles every added person instead of removing the defeated ones. That would deplete the pool very quickly. Also, there were probably tons of QA testers who finished the game before any player did.
@@weaverquest QA testers work on a separate environment that is not connected to production PSN, so these don't count, but there is a ton of different options than actually playing the game after release to add more characters to help in the final sequence :P
@@OkaNyeba Yeah for sure it is not like this is even a problem to solve. Still I am wondering what was intended for the first person to beat the game connected to PSN. Probably just random names on the game's servers generated by the devs.

The only thing your client recieves on the ending scene is the playernames. The rest of the stuff isn't even recorded gameplay of others, it's just your ship with many others .
For starters, devs could have input a small namelist with some messages in final release build or if they were really trying to treasure it, taken data from the QA testers.
And yes on their end they could always go ahead and do stuff. They most likely didn't need to worry about Sony asking them stuff.
The real reason why this thing exists is probably just to let devs run tests on clean release builds without having to resort to savefiles.

Just ran across this again. Very cool and great work reverse engineering the code to figure it out.
When Yoko Taro said somebody would 'get in trouble' if this was found I'm betting it's because of the game crash if you're in the system menu. Quality Assurance usually isn't thrilled to leave in something that causes an easily replicable game crash. The obscurity of the code means that obviously nobody was going to stumble into it, but once discovered it means anybody who isn't careful can trigger the crash and that's no good.
I think this is a sign I should play Nier:Automata XD. Good job

They weren't. This is not meant to be found within the game. It's meant to be a reward for a fan who is as crazy about this game as yoko taro to dig through the code, and find out the secret that had eluded so many up to this point. It's a meta game, a game outside the game.
There’s probably a shit ton of clues around, outside of looking through game flies. Since the cheat code itself was the same as in Bayonetta, there are probably clues in other games.

Live works in weird ways. I never heard anything about this game and never searched anything on it within the past week and a half. I literally just got this game for Christmas because my friend got it for me. I just got ending E yesterday. And now all of a sudden, I get this stuff on my recommended. What a perfect timing! Just finished the game last week and gave up all the data. Love the game, but couldn't get back to it because of having to redo the whole thing again.

Recently I ended up deleting my safe files for the end without doing everything I wanted so this is really a big save for me. I had given up on playing the game again because I finished it recently and I like to give it time before replaying any game. So thank you for this.

Nah, its the platinum game code. Its in lots of stuff post Bayonetta 2. But finding where to use it is the issue

can confirm this work on PC with xbox controller, I'd assume you can use KB&M with the same actions
@@zakum2007 No. You have to hold the evade button to enter code. On MnK evade is by double tapping either up down left or right movement keys.
