*Given the size relative to actual coils on a lifted truck, I think pen springs would be a great representation. I would look for those pens companies use to advertise. The cheapest, most mass-produced ones you can find. Nice and thin springs.*
Thank you for sharing these techniques and tips on lifting 1/64 diecast cars! Great tip on straightening the paperclip wire. It would be neat to see this with the suspension springs and colored covers to make them look real.
Thank you so much! I just took an old Ford panel van and turn it into a monster truck! I tried using the spring mechanism that you showed in the tutorial, but I was having a really hard time getting into work. It was just too stiff. So instead I took a single paper clip boil it in the center, and then used it as a single spring. It was much softer! Thank you so much again for the video man!
Your how to videos are absolutely magnificent they only hail in comparison to your talent! Please keep it up as all of us in the diecast Community certainly appreciate what you bring to the table.
For a bit of realism you can cover your drop down wires with ballpoint pen Springs to look like actual suspension Springs. Just subscribed love watching a good Craftsman.
Great job on the geometry and set up of this suspension lift. And something I just noticed because I just learned this week on a trip to the scrap yard, you are displaying your cars on a hard drive disk. .....I grabbed a stack of them because they were shiny. Lol.
Trucks with the front jacked up and the bed low looks stupid no matter what state you're in. Trust me every time we see one we all laugh and make fun of it. But I guess some people can only afford to lift half their truck.
Hey baremetalHW I've been watching your videos for about 3 weeks now, and I've become quite amazed at what you do, I myself am a younger HW collector, and has recently found a 50 Years Impala tampo error! its crooked! anyways I love your content and have started to custom myself! I also especially love your redline Restorations
This channel is amazing. You are amazing. You are doing things I wished I could do when I was little, but forgot as I grew up. You are living da dream, man!
I like being creative, recently had an interest in watching UA-cam videos, the video is interesting, its actually a working suspension and is easy to do. Thank you for the video
Fantastic video, i have tried so many methods and failed but this one is genius and easy to master after a couple of tries, thank you for sharing this method, George
Dooope, used to have a 73 datsun 620, best first car ever. Sadly sold out a few months ago, good little trucks though. Million good memories in that thing
Dude, u are insane and love your work ❗I'm a car modeler and some of my builds according to others, are off of the hook. I come up with some of my wild builds in the weirdest places. Isn't funny how you can be at a party or with a bunch of friends or even driving and not paying any attention what's so ever, cause your thoughts on how to make it work go thru your mind 😂 Nice work man 😍
How far you bend the V would be caster adjustment on a real car. Neat suspension idea, kind of a modified leaf spring set up. I was thinking the caster changing under load would be weird, but it really isn't. Looks great.
I lifted one of these trucks. I use the S10 Blazer with the football on the side. The chrome grill fit good in the front. I had to sand the bottom of the floorboard and the top of the base to get an even fit. Also the side of the base so the fit up inside the truck. If it really good between the rivets with the little bit of drilling out the hole. I wish there was some way to leave pictures and these UA-cam comment sections so that you could see it, it turned out really nice.
Thanks for the video, I have made my first lifted car with working suspension based on this design and it works great! It's a HW Porsche 356A. Keep up the good work.
Ok so I had to give this a try and while my bends aren't as clean and sharp as yours, you did make it a breeze to follow along. Thanks for sharing this method. The Datsun 620 and the 49 F1 you lifted both look great! I wanted to try a 2015 Volkswagen Caddy pickup but I only had one of each of that first release colors.. may have to find another in orange just to lift. Another Great how-to
My real issue is getting my paperclips nice and straight. I tried to use a scrap piece of 1x4 and it sorta worked but I am sure the piece of steel works better and If I had a decent drill or better yet a drill press then I would make a steel "straightener". I already see requests for more lifted vehicles, perhaps you can mix the next suspension/lift job with a madmax twist ;)
Thanks for the setup i had put it on a truck with a lift so there's was more steps for me but I managed to put better lookin suspension on it in the end that actually works
I totally love this idea man. I would love to try this with the dragster bug. The red one or blue one. I’m going to a flea market soon and hope to do this with some oldies. Thanks for the idea! Love ur vids.
Great, yet another extra step for me to obsess over. I guess I'm heading out to grab a box of paper clips. I wish I never saw this. I'll never be able to do it the way I've been doing it without thinking "there's a way better way to do this, you know about suspension now..." I love slash hate you for this lol
I've seen a lot of your videos and I absolutely love all the cool stuff you do, this has to be one of my favorites so far, that is such a cool idea!!!!
Another informative and entertaining video. I would encourage you to check out the jewelry making department in a craft store like Michael's or Hobby Lobby. The various tools used for wire work would be perfect for the type of modifications you do.
Your video made my LUV project look better then what I was doing. My first try made for a neat 50th anne ranchero w/ purple lift kit. And 2nd try a cool 35 ford truck. Thanks.
You could also put wheel axle through a thin metal tube (like how you lowered your cars) and also slide a craft bead into it to look like a differential pumpkin.
Very creative awesome video working suspension totally killer and the ending results were perfect movable arms shocks it was nice it was like it had a full suspension setup just with paper clips thumbs-up👌👌👌👌👌
Nice job. I recently started customizing hot wheels myself. Your videos are very informative. I think when you straighten the paperclips they may be used for axels. I did 2 videos showing a couple customs I did.
Great video as always..I am trying to make something similar to this for my '10 Toyota Tundra. The problem is the Tundra has a lowered base plate..any suggestions?
I love this guy, he's letting kids know squated trucks are bad
Great job ...I wonder if a spring from a ball point pen would fit on the upright part of the clip making it look like shocks ?
Justin Clark probably will look a bit oversized on these types of cars. but it is doable in terms of possibility.
Jörgen Börg yeah your right mate ....keep these videos coming enjoy them
I think you could have easily wound some red or blue coated wire around the paperclip to make shocks.
I feel the pen spring idea would work, might have to see which pens have a smaller spring, I’m gonna try this.
You could use springs from a pen
MY MAAANNNN😂😂 He really just said to not squat it😂, this is already my fav yt
The wire straighter literally blew my mind. Like how did i not think of that?
idk man
Thank you so much! I just took an old Ford panel van and turn it into a monster truck! You have literally become the Michaelangelo of custom hot wheels.
nice tip on the piece of steel with a small hole and drill for straightening metal wire!

I love 3am car restorations!
DisllexiaReuls BMHW gonna rock ya!
ikr? this one's clever as hell, too. I love it.
Me too
Currently at my night job. 3:19 am watching this lol
6am
"You don't want the truck to look like the empty bed is weighing it down"
My man, you have never been to North Carolina, then
Lol...
Trucks with the front jacked up and the bed low looks stupid no matter what state you're in. Trust me every time we see one we all laugh and make fun of it. But I guess some people can only afford to lift half their truck.
that's the Florida squat
Gunner Ginn (
I was thinking the same thing LOL
This is, by far, the craziest thing I've ever seen in my life, regarding car miniatures. And, also, the coolest idea.
Congratulations, sir.
Excellent tutorial. I had started bending paperclips to raise a 83 Silverado. Your method fixed a dead end I ran into, thank you.👍👍
I never knew staples could be used this creatively. And it seems to work pretty well. Thanks for showing this method.
That truck is lifted, bare your so gifted, I like the way you got that truck so high.
Man, how do you not fall asleep doing this. Watching this is so relaxing...
aaaand Hot Wheels should hire you to design some models for them.
This was exactly what my son needed he loves making custom cars and this video helped him so much! Thank you
Hey baremetalHW I've been watching your videos for about 3 weeks now, and I've become quite amazed at what you do, I myself am a younger HW collector, and has recently found a 50 Years Impala tampo error! its crooked! anyways I love your content and have started to custom myself! I typically don't care for lifted trucks, but that looks really good!
Clever straightening technique. Absolutely brilliant paperclip suspension!!
Really cool design. Not only does it work but it looks correct to real life lift kits. Would like to see this used on a Mad Max sometime.
Just caught your suspension upgrade..all I can say is AWESOME! I enjoy catchinng your videos..great job!!
Super cool louge😊
This channel is amazing. You are amazing. You are doing things I wished I could do when I was little, but forgot as I grew up. You are living da dream, man!
I didn't know I needed this truck project. Yet, you impressed me.
Super cool video, sir. That is about the most simple explanation and demonstration of a 4 link suspension lift.
I like being creative, recently had an interest in watching UA-cam videos, the video is interesting, its actually a working suspension and is easy to do. Thank you for the video
SOOO HELPFUL!!! I'm currently using this method to lift a fully custom car I'm building. Thanks man!!!
that is genious. so simple with basic tools and yet has a nice look. only need some extra addons to look like it's reallife lifted😀
Right? You can paint the suspension black or whatever and it will look awesome.
Börk
Fantastic video, i have tried so many methods and failed but this one is genius and easy to master after a couple of tries, thank you for sharing this method, George
I have already done something like that twice when I was 13-14... good times!!
Wow, i never thought of this technique to bend symmetrical. Thanks. Nice work. Really cool technique.
"Hello everyone and welcome back" Such beautiful words to hear xx
I tried this.....and needles the say I failed Miserably 😂 this guy is a boss at custom hot wheels!
Dooope, used to have a 73 datsun 620, best first car ever. Sadly sold out a few months ago, good little trucks though. Million good memories in that thing
Your handy work is Awesome! You make it look professional and super easy. I know when I try it tomorrow imma have a battle on my hands.😅
That’s a great customizing trick. I might try this with colored paper clips. It would look like the suspension is powder coated. Chrome is cool too.
That is the most clever build that I have ever seen...Well done!
Dude, u are insane and love your work ❗I'm a car modeler and some of my builds according to others, are off of the hook. I come up with some of my wild builds in the weirdest places. than u so much bud !!
You make it look so easy.............but you're a real crafsman! New sub.
How far you bend the V would be caster adjustment on a real car. Neat suspension idea, kind of a modified leaf spring set up. I was thinking the caster changing under load would be weird, but it really isn't. Looks great.
Saw this 5 years ago and just did it.. worked out great.

This is nicely done, I have a truck that’s perfect to try this out on ASAP
Wow! Simply amazed! Very neat and cheap way to make a lifted hot wheels
Thanks for the video, I have made my first lifted car with working suspension based on this design and it works great! It's a HW Porsche 356A. Keep up the good work.
one of the best videos I have ever seen. The idea of using the pins and using it efficiently is what I liked the most.
Looks like a lot of fun! I have a LOT of trucks in my collection. Gonna have to give it a shot. Thanks for sharing 😎👍🏽
Dual rear exaust would have made it perfect! Love your collection
Ok so I had to give this a try and while my bends aren't as clean and sharp as yours, you did make it a breeze to follow along. Thanks for sharing this method. Dude I knew you were skilled but this a whole different level! Great job!
WOW!!! We love this one!
2:05 that was so cool
Hol' up-
Amazing. Those Datsun trucks were a favorite of my grandad.
Thanks for the setup i had put it on a truck with a lift so there's was more steps for me but I managed to put better lookin suspension on it in the end that actually works
That was marvellous! Pure knowledge and experience! Thank you! The so tiny suspension that actually works - AWESOME! Definitely want to try it.
Classy and simple. Thank you again for another stellar video
I totally love this idea man. I would love to try this with the dragster bug. The red one or blue one. I’m going to a flea market soon and hope to do this with some oldies. Thanks for the idea! Love ur vids.
I am Alex we need oh my girl. Girl group
I am Alex I
I am Alex I love hunting for older cars at flea markets and thrift stores!
Reimagined Hot Wheels me too!
Don't oldies are rare
Pretty fun project. I lifted a VW bug using your method … LOL.
Great, yet another extra step for me to obsess over. I guess I'm heading out to grab a box of paper clips. I wish I never saw this. I cant believe this is a thing and I am watching it. Better than the crap on tv.
It was really a pleasure to watch this. 👍🏾
just changing the wheels for me is enough maybe some extra parts awesome job 💙
Wow! You are so talented and make it look so easy!
2am and binging on HotWheels restorations! God I love youtube!
"In essence, the axles will *spring* to life", oh you!
This is just the video I was looking for. Will try it myself. Thanks
Wow! Simple and awesome! Great job!
wow amazing video ans the lift job is so clean looking very very good video
Man that is sweet...I just bought the car culture land rover defender 110 hard top i'm giving that sucker a lift for my friend for christmas.
You could also put wheel axle through a thin metal tube (like how you lowered your cars) and also slide a craft bead into it to look like a differential pumpkin.
What an amazing presentation dude
That’s sick!
That truck looks great! Man I wish I had your touch!
Its a great way of adding high lift suspension, but have you found a way of adding drive shafts and maybe some kind of a transfer box ? .....
Very cool! Quite the skill you have with these.
Wow, alot of engineering went into that. Great job!
best technique I've seen so far
Very cool custom. I would love to try customizing old hot wheels cars. Could you do a restoration on a roger dodger?
That's really awesome! I'll try that in some of my trucks I intend to customize!
I'm gonna say I think that was pretty slick work. I need a toy and some paper clips.....Did not see that coming! HA
Best video to watch while high
Same. Lol.
Man thats clever! Im going to do this to an old hot wheels chevy Silverado im going to restore! Awesome thanks for the tip!
By far one of your best videos brother.
So simple,
Yet so amazing 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
You missed the most important part. The ladder the get in the truck lol. Awesome video
Could be made out of wire as well
Very creative awesome video working suspension totally killer and the ending results were perfect movable arms shocks it was nice it was like it had a full suspension setup just with paper clips thumbs-up👌👌👌👌👌
Really liked this way of lifting.
Dude what a mechanism! think I will give it a go
Nice job. I recently started customizing hot wheels myself. Your videos are very informative. I think when you straighten the paperclips they may be used for axels. I did 2 videos showing a couple customs I did.
Well I know what I'm doing to my Nissan Skyline R34 GTR today. Love the video.
Why would you lift a gtr
idontlikecops1 why not? I want a post apocoliptic styled R34.
@@idontlikecops1 no it's not, it's different and cool.
Jake's Short Films fuck no
@@idontlikecops1 you must really hate uniqueness
Great video as always..I am trying to make something similar to this for my '10 Toyota Tundra. The problem is the Tundra has a lowered base plate..any suggestions?
Simple, but brilliant. Love it!
Could bent or loop the wire that is the suspension over the axles? Or would the freeze / stop the wheels?
I think you should make colt severs truck from the 1980’s tv show “The Fall Guy”
Hell yes 🤘🏼
