  • This is the final episode of the Ancient Pottery Challenge, the rebuilding and successful completion of the ladle. This time it comes out great and I follow the process all the way through painting and firing. Also I do something a little different with this one, I experiment with reduced iron paint and am successful. Then I will recap all the Ancient Pottery Challenge submissions from other potters. Thanks to everyone who participated.

    Great video , I roll the little rattle beads in dry clay dust so they done stick to anything inside, but probably suit .fun !!!

      I rolled mine in dry temper so not sure what happened. I kind of feel like there is some residue from the corn husk inside holding things up.

      What is the purpose of the rattle beads?

      Just to make a little noise when you dip into the soup pot 😀

    Incredible! You're such a talented person. I'm from Colima, Mexico and would like to see you making one of the Dog Effigies that are so typical from here. Keep up the good work!

    That was so relaxing thanks for making the video and posting!!! Beautiful ladel and awesome technique using the corn husk to make the hollow handle. Why did the mesa Verde people leave behind all their beautiful cook ware as though they would be back the next day? Love your work!!!

    • @AncientPottery
      @AncientPottery  2 роки тому +2

      Thank you. When the people of Mesa Verde left, they went on foot. They didn’t have wagons or donkeys or anything like that. Everything had to be carried so they were forced to pack light and had to leave many items behind.

    This was awesome!!!!! I wanna try this next season... Step 1-make a lot more pukis! Seeing this was truly inspiring. Been on the hunt for white clay. Just snagged what I'm hoping will work but looking at it today mine seemed kinda grayish but dries white. I know bc my dog got into it and came home to white paw prints everywhere! Can't wait to see what you've got next season.

      You never know what color it will be after firing until you try it, lots of grey clay will fire white. If you are in the southwest, take my Wild Clay 101 online class and get access to a handy map of clays you can access and collect yourself. ancientpottery.how/courses/native-clay/

    real nice!!!
    the ladle handle may have reminents of the corn husk still inside, soot,? hoping washing it out with water will help make it rattle.
    thank you

    With the handle sealed up won't that cause it to blow up? That's what I was taught....?!

    • @AncientPottery
      @AncientPottery  Рік тому

      No, air bubbles don't break pottery, that's an old wise tale. Still I did put a couple small holes in the bottom of the handle to help it dry more evenly

    I just started getting into clay making…and I mean very new. What is the white paint you put onto your ladle before your iron paint?

    • @AncientPottery
      @AncientPottery  9 місяців тому

      It's just a thin solution of white clay
