- With the BionicOpter, Festo has technically mastered the highly complex flight characteristics of the dragonfly. Just like its model in nature, this ultralight flying object can fly in all directions, hover in mid-air and glide without beating its wings.

The body of a real dragonfly during flight has always seemed very stable to me. The one here is pretty shaken due to the wing movement. Still, a very promising attempt.
I'll make a bet that the shot following wit the bird was done by their Festo Bird robot. But this seems quite a step beyond the bird. As tetsugal puts it "Your robots are freaking awesome!!" Keep up the great work. Hope to see you on TED for a more detailed story!
OMG!!!!! I've missed you Festo guys!! Your robots are freaking awesome!!! But as I've told before I would like to see some sort of AquaPlesiosaur or AquaElasmosaur. I want to see things go about in a way the world as never seen for more than 65 million years.

Larger ones that you could ride in would be fun - and energy efficient.
I'm not no way into rc helis, but rc planes. Quadcopters I kinda like, but THIS is it! Here is where I come in. Hover and glide!?...that's me period! I'll flying nothing but that.

Bionics (also known as biomimicry, biomimetics, bio-inspiration, biognosis, and close to bionical creativity engineering) is the application of biological methods and systems found in nature to the study and design of engineering systems and modern technology.
They should work on a helicopter sized version. That would be sick!
