Manuel & The Music of the Mountains - Rodrigo's Guitar Concerto de Aranjuez [1971]

- Опубліковано 18 сер 2024
- Track 9 from the 15th album by Manuel & The Music of the Mountains, "Carnival", released in 1971. The full title of the track is Rodrigo's Guitar Concerto de Aranjuez (Theme From The Second Movement). The album reached No. 3 in the UK album chart in March 1976.
This track was released in the UK as a single at the end of 1975, backed with "Mirage" (also uploaded). It entered the UK singles chart on 31 January 1976 and, when the chart for 28 February was announced, this was declared as the new UK No. 1 selling single.
However, as soon as the track had been played on BBC radio as the No. 1, it was announced that there had been an error in the chart calculation. Three hours later, the revised chart was published, and Manuel was now at No. 3 - the highest "official"position it reached. However, this track was the UK's No. 1 single for three hours, the shortest ever time spent there by a song. A record breaker for Manuel!

The first time I heard this, on Radio One in the seventies, My hair stood on end and I tingled all over. Thirteen year old me cried at the beauty of it. I'm 58 now, and it's done it again.
And me
Yes Pamela, me too. I had just fallen in love with a Spaniard. I played it a million times. I’ve just realised too, 1971 was 50 years ago !
Me too, my mam n dad played it on 7inch vinyl
I'm British, I love this music, something about it going high, then the drop of it, takes me up then brings me down in real life in a natural life, I love it ❤️
I've got it on 7 inch vinyl from 1971, 50 years ago.
This was my.moms favourite.song.we played it at her funeral.in 2012. Rip mom love and miss you.so much.x
This is just sheer musical beauty…….timeless !
My dad used to play this when I was a child. He now has dementia and I am going to jog some memories for him , lovely tune xx
karen huxtable he'll remember it even if he doesn't show it.
That’s so sweet of you
I have just lost my Dad to Covid and he was also suffering from Alzheimer's .. he loved this moving piece of music and bought the record when I was 13
I'm thinking of having it played at his funeral
Its strange the way only music can evoke such memories of the past and take you back to where something memorable happened in your life. To me, this music is a stage of my life when I started to feel what love was all about, such strong moving music tearing at your heartstrings, yet you still want to continue to listen. Music of the Mountains was a favourite of mine, as soon as I listened to it and it still can do the same to my heartstrings, even now.
Beautiful. We played this song at Mums funeral. She was Spanish, and this just evokes so much. She passed away 2 years ago, still missed, much loved, never forgotten xx
God bless you and give you courage to bear this loss.

One of my late dad's favourite pieces of music and one of mine too. Sunday lunch over, he would sit in his favourite chair, earphones on and thus album firmly planted on the turn table, next thing we knew he was asleep. Wonderful memories.
Brings back wonderful memories of holidaying in Great Yarmouth in the sizzling summer of '76 with my parents.
ROB BAKER so beautiful and haunting at the same time ..listening to it now ..love love it i was 16 then had it on a 45 rpm played over and over
This is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written or played and I bought the LP when it first came out.. My Late Mum and I used to love listening to it together, it was one of our favourites!!!!! I decided a long time ago that I'd like to have it played at my funeral. Years later my late father in law had it played at his funeral, so very touching indeed.
This magnificent piece reminds me of huge, grey, snow-splashed mountains against a brilliant blue winter sky; and also of a very moving portrayal of the Crucifixion of Christ once acted out to it by a Christian theatre company. No matter how world-weary I'm feeling, it never fails to stir.
In the late eighties I was on holiday in Majorca with a girlfriend. This was being played over the pool music system. It was hot and sunny, I just lay there in a daze. I didn't have a clue what it was, but could not understand why I had never heard it before. When we got home I heard it again on the Alan Freeman show, but missed the title. I wrote to the BBC and asked him what he played on xxx date and time. To my amazement he replied and told me.
This reminds me of my mum!!!!! Love u mum. Miss youxxx
rest in peace my lovely mom xx
its a pleasure to hear real music played in this way.
My once beloved brother Brendan, such a funny smart guy until he was crushed by a bad female, your music my man,i love you ,god bless ,your brother J x
@RayBushfox
Thanks for getting in touch. It's a shame that music such as this is not to easily available now, which is why I set about uploading all the Manuel tracks that I have. His music is too good to remain unheard, and it's good to know that others can also appreciate his music. Best wishes.
This was the first record I ever bought I was 5. It's unforgettable even 50 years later I still love it!
A brilliant and very funny man. I can remember him on television years ago with Max Bygraves and the repartee between them was a delight to watch. Under his real name of Geoff Love he not only made some great records but he was also responsible for some of Shirley Bassey's best records. Thanks Geoff.
My mom's favourite song God bless you.mom rip love you. Always xxc
This one of the most beautiful pieces of music you could ever listen too.
this was my mom's favorite song miss you mom
Had this played at my dad's funeral beautiful music you just seem to get lost in. What a talented man.
my late dad loved this .i cry every time i hear it

My Dad's favourite piece of music which we played at his funeral. It was so soothing to hear something he enjoyed so much. There is a small amount of sadness when you hear this along with vast amounts of imagination as he plays.
this was my moms favorite song love you so much mom xx miss you loads x
Thank you Laura, every time I hear this I think of happiness, comfort and childhood memories. I'm sure my Dad is at peace now. xx.
My dad played this int 70s I miss him was so happy to hear this and see the record cover picture again thanks

This was played once for my mum n dad by my brother for whatever reason coz we were never a classical music listening family, but it stuck with me, whatever reason, loved it simce

Last record that i bought for my Dad. 😪
IIt was 1969-1970 when I first took notice of 'Manuel', we had a radio station here that played mostly orchestral music (but unfortunately it didn't last).Manuel and The Music of The Mountains got a lot of airplay. I was always impressed how smooth and relaxing Manuel's music was. These radio stations no longer exist today, so one has to look elsewhere (online radio Live365, UA-cam, or browse second hand record stores) to find this genre.
Thanks to UA-cam and yourself, Manuel lives on.
I always forget Manuel is the amazing Mr Geoff Love. I have his space disco themes albums. Lovely
Played this at my mom's funeral 2012 was her favourite song
i captured it on air with my 1/4 inch magnetophone in 1974 .
one of the best instrumental pieces ever .
juvenal ----------------1960-2024. sat. 11
Fitting that Geoff Love of Todmorden recorded it, and 20 years later featured on Brassed Off- Orangejuice as it is known in the film.
Number 1 for three hours in the UK on Tuesday 17 February 1976 until the then chart compiler (BMRB) realised they'd made a mistake with the chart computation after which the chart was recompiled and it was number 4!
I read somwhere that this number one one in the uk charts ,but only for a few hours ,owing to some mistake ,never the less i bought it cos this is the sort of music i like .
I keep coming back for a listen to Geoff love's fantastic orchestra and his music, awsome
Lovely version Geoff introduced me to this classical piece thank you so much in heaven
God this takes me back loved it all those years ago and still do xx
This is the first time I have heard this track since the seventies and it is simply wonderful.
I have this on a LP by the Spanish national orchestra, I think it is amazing ❤
my dad showed this music a long time ago , god bless him
Mine too
My fiance said that when he heard this the first time he said it reminded him of me I have never forgotten
And the memories keep flooding back....
Esta es la mejor interpretación y ejecución de las realizadas por todas las orquestas que en algún momento la hayan interpretado
You came in with a gift for mankind to help and to heal your beauty goes beyond the realms of existence so everything you do will heal someones Heart including mine my maksim ??? KB I live in Ireland rich in music love and greatness of mankind .
The No1 that never was! Due to a technical error this record was announced as the new No1 in the UK charts by DJ Johnnie Walker during the weekly chart update at Tuesday lunchtime in March 1976. However this was soon rectified, it transpired that data returns from a number of record retailers hadn't been included and the organisation responsible for compiling the charts very quickly rectified the situation. Red faces all around. Therefore, the No1 that never was.
+knockshinnoch1950 Didn't know that,thanks for sharing it.
Except it was a bona fide No. 1 on Melody Maker's chart. (One of three toppers unique to that publication that year, one other being Wings' "Let 'Em In.")
I was working in Guy Norris record shop when that happened I was delighted to put at number one hated moving it two number two a couple of days later can't remember what replaced it though totally agree with the other comments
@@wmbrown6 The Melody Maker Chart had zero clout beyond Melody Maker. The BBC carried the officially recognised charts for the UK and were published in Music Week the UK music industry's weekly publication. These are the go to reference for any chart facts when researching the period.
@@knockshinnoch1950 - You sound like many an American who totally discounts Cash Box' or Record World's chart positions, only taking stock in Billboard (thanks, Joel Whitburn and "American Top 40" for that whole "if it wasn't #1 in Billboard, it wasn't #1, period" attitude). Melody Maker was very highly influential (as was New Musical Express) up to the point when the BBC and Record Retailer (which became Music Week in 1972) first contracted with BMRB in 1969 to compile their 'official' chart. I've come to believe in the big picture, not just what went to #1 officially but also in all the other UK charts that existed between 1955 and 1988. To only go by one chart to the exclusion of others is the ultimate distortion. Even the BBC itself, prior to 1969, had an 'averaged' chart, sampling all music charts except Top Pops.
For eternity ...
This song scares me still to this day I call it Graveyard Music from when my dad played it when I was just a little boy lol.
a great guy, beaming smile, and here is a lovely tune
Beautiful.

beautiful piece of music!.
I've a vinyl of this song bought in 1979.
First time was on about Anglia, mum loved it.
In 1976 I'd just came home from my first trip away at sea bought a Sony music centre from Hardmans Liverpool this was playing in the shop as the demo paid cash for the music centre so they let me keep record as well 😁
I remember the no 1 that never was and thought at the time that there was influence from certain areas not to have a classic tune at number 1 in the pop charts..
Ah, another conspiracy theory rears its head. LOl
wagbelt No there wasn’t if you look at my comment you will see the reason for this single being number one for three hours during late February 1976.
At least the theme from Thames Television's "Van der Walk", Eye Level, made it to No. 1 by The Simon Park Orchestra, but this Geoff Love piece was much much better ! Shame if the chart was rigged that week ? Very haunting piece of music, I have the CD, which still sounds brilliant
He wanted to listen to this music on May 6, 1972, before a young man died. His name Deniz Gezmiş
