I was barely awake when I began to watch this video but just the title sent my brain into gear. My two favorite art supplies are vintage books and stencils and I am so excited to give this a try. For me you video embodies the part You Tube plays in my creative process. Thank you.
Audubon books are precious, imo. Instead of cutting them out, I copy mine to the size I want then cut them out of stencil film. Sometimes laying the stencil film over the book image works. But working in the book can be awkward.
Beautiful, Heather. I loved the accidental text on your gelli plate. Gorgeous print. What a neat idea. I think I have some of that shelf backing stuff.
Thank you for your excellent video. You're a natural teacher and very talented. I learned a whole new approach. Pls disregard the negative comments; they are beneath this helpful community.
Really beautiful technique! Your colour layering is lovely & soft & the text really adds to it. Although I must respectfully disagree that the Audoubon book isn’t precious - those are amazingly beautiful & detailed books with incredible artwork for their era 😊 (although I know what you meant).
Audubon sketched and painted birds in “odd postures” because he wanted to give viewers an idea of how they behaved. He included vegetation and dead animals to show their environment and diet. So your book is the 1800s equivalent of a nature documentary.
Also, not sure if anyone has mentioned it, but longer videos are best filmed in landscape view, rather than the portrait view of shorts. No idea why shorts are done in portrait, but it’s much more comfortable to watch in landscape
Yes, I’m learning this whole social media thing as I go. I originally planned to edit this for instagram. I’m working on planning things out more so hopefully are future UA-cam videos will be in the right format.
