I'm from Uruguay, I never met Karajan or seen personally. When I was 10 yrs old I used to listen the classical station of the SODRE here in Uruguay. And I remember that I was trying to convince my mother that classical music was beautiful and easy to understand. So, sometimes I turn on the radio with the work near the beginning or near the end, and many times I told my mother "listen, it's Karajan" and a 100% of the times I was right. I don't know, how on Earth a kid with only 3 years of piano lessons and music theory can capture the essence of his conducting style without a systematic listening of his records, but at that age, when something great was comming from the speakers, it was Karajan.
I fell in love with Karajan at the age of six. This was the beginning of a lifelong love affair in which my love for the Master has deepened every year. There will never be another Karajan! His exquisite musicality and taste, his command of tempi, his exhilarating rubati, and his unique and unmistakable tone and timbre are unparalleled. I like other conductors too, but none have the edge on Karajan. He is the Maestro of all maestri.
