Hey guys, got a good old favorite of mine, the La-5FN. I used to fly that regularly in AB, and i felt that now i needed a revisit to this plane, and fly it in RB. Which i had only dont a few times, and not too succesfully back then. Let's check ;) Have a great day!

I was the guy that put the plane on fire, MacBrain in WT. I watched the replay and yes, he would have gone down but I would have killed him in your situation aswell. Better shoot one down thats already damaged, than having a plane still flying and maybe beeing able to put guns on you or your teammates!

There's a new tracer belt for ShVAKs, which is made of all FI-Ts. IMO it works brilliantly: people in my community always say that the round deals with the most damage is the fragmentation round for ShVAKs and B-20s, so I'm assuming that new tracer belt is the way to go.
Also, I herd people saying long time ago that in PvP games Gaijin's server do not register all slugs that hit the target, but doing a statistical calculation. e.g. only 1/10 of the .50 slugs that hit the target is registered and calculated by the server, and the same concept applies for other auto-cannons but presumably with different parameters. I'm not sure if this is true, but it might explain why AI air targets are much more vulnerable than players' aircraft. This may also explain why Hispanos spark that much: they have low RPMs and the few rounds that actually hit might not be registered.
And of course, great video my friend, learned a lot about La-5FN!

At 4.0 br it's really fast. Faster than any german plane and on par with the usa ones.

la-7 is my favorite russian plane ;)
Jengar wow i find the La-7 one of the worst, and the 5FN too. The La-9 is mediocre/decent and so is La-11. But i really like Yak-3, brilliant plane with good manoeuvrability and brilliant climb rate
@@bilge677 I disagree. I tend to annihilate teams (arcade, and not literally) with the La-9. Its a pretty tough little bird, and you can't afford to get hit by its weapons. I too love the yaks, but the La-9 was a pleasant surprise. Especially with how much it costs to research modules. I've found it worth it.
I like the la series, but not the lagg. So bad. Then the yak. For bnz

Historically, this plane was good enough to face Fw 190 A5s with no problem at all!
It's because most Russian players don't have a clue what they're doing. Whenever I use any of the La series (even the 7b-20) I always give the axis a good spanking

@@feanorian5674 Which is 1 year later than the 109 F4. If flown right, it will simply beat every German prop at its tier by default.
@@NotDumbassable Exactly. For me, La-5FN was the better version of the all of La-5 variants. Base from history, Cuz it has better engine and manueveribility, also air combat on the eastern front ussual in low-medium altitude, which the Soviet fighters has better performance in that. That is made the La-5FN can counter the German fighters as well.
I love this aircraft but I suck at using it sooo badly 😂😂 I either end up crashing or burn through my ammunition.

The 5FN is far better in IL2 Sturmovik. With the new engine upgrade, the 5FN has endless power. It has no problem going after bombers at 5k meters to 6k meters. Which demonstrates Gaijin's bias towards every other country but the OP Americans.
Me, I love turn fighting. Turn fighting on the deck is the best. Then energy fighting. I avoid B n Z

Historically speaking, almost all Russian planes were crap at higher altitudes. If they are good in IL2 at those altitudes, it's IL2 that is historically inaccurate, not WT.

LOL, are you serious? This is such a well known fact it defies imagination that even a casual gamer with the slightest interest in Russian fighter aircraft would not know this. Here is and excerpt from www.warhistoryonline.com:
"German test pilot Hans-Werner Lerche wrote a detailed report of his experiences flying the La-5FN, explaining that the new Soviet fighter excelled at altitudes below 3,000 meters, and its performance at this altitude was comparable to Luftwaffe fighters. He also noted that the new Lavochkin possessed superior maneuverability in some regards. Both German fighters, however, outperformed the La-5FN at higher altitudes, though given the fact that the majority of the air war over the Eastern Front was fought below 3,000 meters, this was often not a problem."
There are a myriad of other sources that say the same thing. The fighting on the Russian front was mostly at lower altitudes compared with ETO because neither side used high alt bombing campaign like the allies did over Germany.

Sorry Jengar! Felipe was talking about Adam514 beeing in the same team. Adam is also a WT youtuber and i was saying to him that Adam´s aim is incredible, like a laser guided aim and that i faced him a few times and killed him in a match! rsrs

How does the La-5FN compare to the BF 109 F4 in vertical energy retention below 3km? I love the F4 but I'm very wary of La-5FNs now haha!
it's highly competative below 3k. and its fast there. got to be wary indeed.
the f4 just very barely has the edge, but a good pilot could turn your advantage into a reversal
Hey Jengar, I follow you're vids all the time and love your teachings! With this plane though, I don't understand why you would call this a good plane to start of with in RB? It's not very manouvrable compared to the yaks for example, it stiffens up really hard in dives, it can't outrun a lot of planes and you get BnZd upon all the time because of the low alt performance. You have to master energy fighting first before you can actually pull it of in this one. I, for one, am having problems with this plane tbh (been playing for almost 2 years now).

Hello Jengar.
I was a player of the game a long time ago (I think I joined in the update where Ground Forces were added; this is coincidental, however, as I only played air at the start), but I left for a period of a few years. I have now come back to the game, and I think I know in at least some detail all that has changed.
I would like to learn proper energy fighting techniques, and would appreciate if you would make a tutorial of that.
I am currently struggling in the game, as I either play too conservatively and my entire team dies before I can get a kill, or I die too early and get at most one kill.
Naturally, this frustrates me, and I am quite near to quitting the game to fly a game that I currently have more fun with: Il-2 1946. However, I want to give WarThunder a chance to redeem itself (rather, a chance for me to redeem myself; my self esteem has been rather low as of late due to my inability to improve), and I figured you would be a good person to learn from.

I assume those are better got planes with good maneuverability? (incl. rollrate, so the Typhoon's already out of this one...)
I tried the climbing spiral in a Bf 109 E-3, but found it too difficult to execute.
I also don't really know when to use any of the maneuvers, except for the rolling scissors to force an overshoot, and the high yoyo.

Before you buy a plane do a little research on what type of fighter it is (energy fighter, turn fighter, boom n zoom).
Also, I usually stick with boom n zoom planes because I find them easier to fight with. But my point is you need to stick with planes that you enjoy flying.

Question; Is it worth the loss in engine power of Russian Props to climb above 3000-4000 meters? It kinda seems counterintuitive in them as for a fighter, engine power is crucial. I've always been sort of offput from the Soviet fighters because of that.
Tsundere_Gaming, look at the web wiki page of a plane, there's a graph for the power per alt. For Russians it's ok to climb up to 6k and optimal for planes like i-185 or yak-9U. The problem is that you'll be alone up there.

yeah, i'd continue to climb to 6k max, though often while flying i stopped before that due to the development of the match.
Never really flew the russians since i climb normally and that makes me win a lot of times against them. I‘ll have a look at this plane tho

I enjoy turnfighting and energy fighting, but I'm struggling to see how the La series has any advantage over the Yaks. Yaks are better turning (I think?) and it seems like they have similar roll rates, and that yaks stall better. Their top speed and rip speed seem comparable, and I myself have found the yaks to be very good energy fighters. But I haven't played the Las yet. So what am I missing? In what situation would a La be better?
i like both lines a lot, i've not flown russians a lot lately though, props that is, i flew the jets more lately. If i remember the yaks correctly, the la's start with double 20's earlier. And are in general more maneuverable. i think the yak's are slightly faster and a bit better in a dive, but not a lot. I'll have to fly a few more of them again to get the differences more frech again.
Yeah, the La planes get double 20s much earlier. I was under the impression that yaks are more maneuverable, but I also have some more flying to do before I can say so for sure!

Amir Tabassi I don't know, its not the way I have my controls configured. Mine are mostly default. Try googling it, you should find something useful. I have looked it up before, just didn't want to actually do it. Too lazy to unlearn default controls and learn a whole new setup lol

I think air realistic is now way far from good balance. Bf 109 and Italian planes are dominating whole meta.. their win rate are most likely above 60~70% now.
strange though that most of my other planes are also between 60-70%

What is the best plane of Warthunder in your oppinion?
that question is way too broad. for bombing? for attacking? as a boom & zoomer? or for turnfighting? the best firepower? or the best loadout options? There is no one best plane in WT.
What are best for the 20mm ShVak.
the compositions have changed, but i've always liked stealth and ground belts. But there may be a better belt atm.

i must have mentioned somewhere on the mifd to low altitudes. When i flew it for the video it was indeed a monster below 3500-4000 meters. if something changed then shame to gaijin. This puppy used to be beautifull.
@@jengar6258 It's not now. Only in Arcade. In RB you can barely climb with WEP. It has a long lasting engine but other than being ridiculously beautiful... this plane sucks. Most Russian propeller driven aircraft suck. They can't turn, they can't retain energy, their guns are inaccurate, low ammo belt, guns overheat fast, heavy but little to no armor, get shot down easily by anything that turns better, retains energy better or has the slightliest better (whatever that's important). Gaijin has a serious problem, and it's that they apparently demonstrate they have never seen a FW190 out turning a Spitfire or an I-16 Rata climbing up vertically for 2km without losing any small percentage of energy.
and how is this LA 5FN compared to I-185 m-82 located at the same br?
very different planes, the I-185's are the russian high altitude props.

I think i've encountered one of the most annoying player of the game he had 4kills so he should be good and level100, with an american a6m2 (so we agree with good maneuvres you can dominate prettymuch everyone) we were 2 left, me in la5 and a yak9 against him. he just stayed around his airfield thinking we were going to dive on the aa.... he climbed enough i hit him twice before he dive obviously.. and i have to go refuel, my teamate dive and rip the wing of his yak and when got refuel and takeoff the time i found him the zero just destroy trucks to end the game, i dont understand if i had his situation with a zero i would have not hesitate one second to go in the middle of the field and defeat the 2 last fighters to have 6 kills, i mean does he really deserve his level100 for this type of gameplay this annoyed me A LOT
lvl100 means nothing, everyone gets that eventually, it tells you nothing about the kind of pilot he is.
@@jengar6258 yeah its true it could be more a tankiste than a pilot but i still dont understand maybe he was like "4kills is enough i want to end the game" but not me and im shure you will agree with me that a good zero pilote can slip between the fingers of anyone so why play like a fragile little bomber, and even in a bomber you can play an agressive style (bomber hunter and ground pounding in the sunderland for example) i'll never get it this is not my fighting philosophy, if i have even 1% of victory i'll still fight at least i can take some enemies with me
