  • The summer of 2018 wasn't all that kind to this preserved gem along the San Juan extension. Devastating forest fires-followed by heavy flooding-reduced the railroad to operating only between Rockwood and Silverton. In this video, watch as both daily trains depart Rockwood, cross the famous Highline, and make a run towards Silverton. Once all passengers are unloaded, the trains head back for the Silverton Wye for turning. Then all passengers are brought back aboard. It's time to head back to complete this perfect day of Narrow Gauge Railroading. Rate. Comment. Subscribe. ENJOY!!! Copyright Nick Valdez Railroad Photography 2019.

We booked this train for summer 2018. They cancelled on us. Fires out West (Durango) and fires at LaVeta pass "trapped" us in Creed/Pagosa area. We booked the Chama/Toltec train, which was very nice. They leaped frogged firetrucks along the route (state highway) for fire prevention and they used road railers that followed behind us. These steam trains are so important to the economy and to us foamers that I hope forest conditions improve to allow for steam to still run. This is a nice video Nick ... I experience and live steam through your videos .. thanks. May steam live forever!

♥️What a joy this was to watch! The whistle patterns are beautiful, especially when there was a single whistle that echoed. I was smiling wide the whole video. Would so love to be there. Mountains are magical, Thanks for posting. X

Was 476 struggling going around the high line? Don't remember it being that slow on that part of the trip.

I don’t think those spark arresters look great on the k-28s. They look awesome on the k-36 and k-27. But it’s not that seriousl

Excellent video of a bucket list steam train ride in the magnificent Rocky Mountains. It was like being there and videoing it myself. I don't have the opportunity to video the trains but I do video all the cruise ships which come to Adelaide in South Australia, if you and your viewers of trains care to subscribe. I am looking forward to seeing your videos of when the 4014 will be ready. Cheers from the Train Lord in South Australia.
