  • Jamie Lynn Spears, the 30-year-old sister of Britney Spears, has broken her silence after the pop star told a court Wednesday about what she called an "abusive" conservatorship.
Among the many allegations she made made in court, Britney said her family "has lived off of" her conservatorship for 13 years. Fans on social media began accusing Jamie Lynn of living off Britney and doing nothing to help her. Now, the younger sister has finally responded, speaking for more than two minutes on Instagram stories Monday night.
"Hey everybody, I just want to take a second to address a few things," Jamie Lynn said. "The only reason I haven't before is because I felt like until my sister was able to speak for herself and say what she felt she needed to say publicly, that it wasn't my place and it wasn't the right thing to do. But now that she's very clearly spoken and said what she needed to say, I feel like I can follow her lead and say what I feel I need to say."
The younger Spears said since they day she was born she "loved and supported" her sister and she doesn't care "if she wants to run away to the rainforest and have a zillion babies in the middle of nowhere or if she wants to come back and dominate the world the way she has so many times before."
During the court hearing, Britney made several serious allegations against her conservators, one of whom is her father, Jamie Spears. The 39-year-old alleged her conservators won't let her go to a doctor to have her IUD removed so she can have another baby. She also alleged that she had been forced to perform.
Britney continuously said her family did nothing to help her as her conservators kept a tight hold on her life. "And I would honestly like to sue my family, to be totally honest with you," she said.
According to People, after Jamie Lynn posted her video, she began receiving death threats. She was particularly concerned as she has three children: she wrote on her social media, "Hi, I respect that everyone has the right to express themselves. But can we please stop with the death threats, especially the death threats to children."
The Huffington Post reported that Jamie Lynn disabled comments on some of her posts on Instagram and her mom, Lynne, also did, as they were getting so many negative comments.
Jamie Lynn mentioned how she has been making her own money, and it turns out that Britney's family has gotten some of her money, but not Jamie Lynn.
According to Us Weekly, this news came out in the New Yorker article called "Britney Spears's Conservatorship Nightmare" written and reported by Jia Tolentino and Ronan Farrow. The story says, “Jamie, Lynne, and Spears’s brother, Bryan, have all spent years on Spears’s payroll, and, as friends who spoke with her at the time recalled, she was increasingly resentful of their efforts to influence her."
People have often wondered about the relationship between Britney and Jamie Lynn. Jamie Lynn became a famous actress when she was young, and according to Us Weekly, she became pregnant when she was 16 years old in 2007.
In July 2020, Jamie Lynn did talk about Britney, and in a rare statement, she said, “You have no right to assume anything about my sister,” she replied via Instagram. “And I have no right to speak about HER health and personal matters. … She is a strong, bad*ss, unstoppable woman, and that’s the only thing that is OBVIOUS.”
The New Yorker story reported that the evening prior to speaking in court, Britney phoned 911 and said she was a "victim of conservatorship abuse." She was very honest about the pain that she has gone through and how she hasn't been allowed to make her own decisions.
Jamie Lynn sounds very worried about Britney, and so does their mom, Lynne. According to People, a source told the publication that Jamie hasn't filled Lynne in enough on what is going on.
Fans of Britney Spears are heartbroken about the situation and hope that she finds justice soon.
