  • Kobalt (Lowes brand) 40v Battery Pack Repair (4 minute video).
As many of you know, another hobby of mine is rebuilding dead tool battery packs. The replacement cells I use are Molicel's...a well known, high end 18650 battery that exceeds the specification of the OEM cells. 18650 designates the size and type of battery...but not the capacity. This Kobalt pack is 40 volt, 5 amp and has 20 of the 18650 batteries in it.
I was able to volt and load test each individual cell while the pack was assembled. This resulted in finding 2 dead cells and 2 weak cells. The plan was to replace all four of those with the Molicel brand batteries. Everything went back together well. Yea!
After charging the pack to capacity, we tested the rebuilt pack in the mower. Perfect! Thank you Jesus!
Also, below is a link to the spot welder I use for welding the battery packs.

Wow! So good to get to see the process. Good idea to double up the tabs to carry the current = A clever work-around for the limitations of your welder. Idea = It seems to me that it might be helpful to have independent control over when the welder fires, instead of the one second delay. If we added a foot pedal, you could take all the time you wanted to use the probes to move and secure the tabs. Let me know of your interest.

Thanks! I can set the delay from 0.5 to 5 seconds. A foot pedal would be nice...but I have gotten used to working with the delay. Thanks again for the positive comments!
