Air Koryo is basically a flying museum with all those retired Russian passenger jets
They're aware of that, and before covid there was a UK-based agency that specialized in North Korean tours where you got the opportunity to fly on every aircraft model in the fleet. and there's also the Wonsan air show they do every so often

Fact: Did you know that in the old days, Air Koryo also could fly to Switzerland, Bulgaria and Serbia. But now it can only fly to Russia, China and inside North Korea.

Until now, Air Koryo has a fleet of older aircraft, including Soviet-era Tupolev, Antonov and Ilyushin jets. It has been known for having low safety ratings and a limited number of flight options, especially having routes to only China and Russia. They also couldn't order jets like the Comac C919 and would only have done that by mid-2030s.
Why can't they get c919? Western components?
Because the Comac C919 was powered by 2 Safran Leap C1 Engines. China's CJ-1000 Engine might not come until 2030.
This is not true. Air Koryo operates only the most advanced aircraft including the brand new Chollima 1000 designed by Marshal Kim Jong Un himself
Yet they still have only one crash... So idk about those low safety ratings. Although, Soviet airliners are a fair bit more tolerating than western aircraft so they might just shrug everything off.

The word Korea is actually from the word Koryo, which is an ancient country of Korean peninsula.
So Air Koryo and Korean Air are essentially a same airline.
except air koryo is actually called "koryo airline" in Korean while korean air is called "great han airline" (the official name of south korea in korean literally being "great han people's republic")

It can be about the services, the staff, the landings, the planes, how clean the planes are etc. And I personally don't think Air Koryo is that bad. I've seen quite a lot of on-board footage and it genuinely doesn't look like a 1-star airline. Sure, there are better airlines out there but giving Air Koryo 1 star? I think that's a bit too exagerated. It looks like a 3-star airline in my opinion.

Having flown on both, I can confidently say that Air Koryo has the newest and largest fleet of modern commercial aircraft I have ever seen. The service upon both airlines are good, however Air Koryo had supreme food with excellent cuisine. Despite its background, I would recommend Air Koryo to all travelers, despite its single-star rating.

I am honestly surprised how Air Koryo has managed to survive all of its flights, despite using obsolete planes. Their flight to Guinea is the only exception of flight survival. I need to know how they survived the rest of their flights.

1:15 yes but Korean air has flown many more flights than air koryo and there is no known number of air koryo crashes because the North Korean government can hide crashes that happened in North Korea, and with the low amounts of flights at would take a few years to work out if the plane is in service or not, this is how the amount of air koryo crashes remain a mystery.

I'd say that Air Koryo is a -11/11 airline but Korean Air to me like about 12/11 and Asiana Airlines feels like it is 100/11 to me. Well it fells so weird to say that Tupolev makes planes that look like from the west like something that looks like a 757,a Concorde and more kinds of other planes.

Korean Air survived despite losing one 747 for three consecutive years. If Air Koryo had done that, they would have been dragged into a coal mine.

Asiana was the best airline in the world once. Sadly, Asiana’s owner, Kumho Group had many problems in South Korea (such as unreasonable M&A) and they ‘disbanded’.
Kumho had to sell Asiana, and it was Korean air (Hanjin).
Some countries such as US and ‘EU’ didn’t allow their merge. Because of that, Asiana decided to sell their Cargo business yesterday. (btw Asiana’s cargo business makes 30% of Asiana profit)
As a person who advocates their merge, I’m kinda sad about this but hopefully Korean air and Asiana merge as soon as possible!
As a Korean I’ve been on way too many 14 hr Dallas to Incheon flights in my life, but I gotta say, Korean Air probably has the most hospitable crew I’ve seen. They’re no luxury airline, but the food and seats are quite good on international flights. The crew is always so nice and they’re one of my favorite airlines. I definitely recommend Korean air.
Would love to fly them one day!

The flight attendants are not very hospitable like Korean Air’s, and they always make so much noise on the plane. I wouldn’t go on asiana again.

Just went on a 747-8 Korean Air, the landing was much more harder then the a330 I went on after that but the acceleration to takeoff literally snapped my neck on the 747 while the a330 just glided very slowly…. Food was god tier tho

BTW, the Korean Air A330 that crashed in the picture was KE631, the plane HL7525 is still in Mactan-Cebu International Airport written off, stripped of paint and relocated sitting near the fences in the airport. It was scary knowing that plane crashed in the airport because i live just 30 km away and knowing the plane passed overhead from my city before it overran was unsettling. We heard the news later in the social media at midnight on October 24, 2022. Good thing no one was hurt.
