Random Plants & Foliage 3D Models in Minecraft - Blockstate Tutorial #2 - How to code .json files

- In this video you will learn how to make random plant models appear when you place a flower in Minecraft. After less than 20 minutes you will be able to make distinct model variation in your texture pack, and also how to apply index tintindex for grass models. When we're done you can learn even more in the next video of this series. These custom 3D models are going to change how Minecraft looks and feel. Adding variation to your textures and models enhances the game in a unique and playful way. Alternating textures is done in a few lines of code, and it's super easy to learn. To see your updates while playing Minecraft, all you have to do is to press F3 + T and your game will reload the texturepack instantly.
Do you want to know how to add custom 3d leaves to Minecraft? The process is similar to the one shown in this video! Beware of the variables "shade" and "ambientocclusion", both of these should be set to false if you want to get the most out of custom leaves. These variables are set in the models files. Blockstates allow us to make a texturepack diverse and colorful, even if we use a very limited palette of blocks. Make random block textures appear when you place a block on the ground, and you can even create epic and fun interactions if you replace fence gates and buttons with custom models.

I was trying to find an actually understandable tutorial for model variations for months before finding your channel, thank you!!
Heeey! Glad to hear! 😊👍
not related to this video but if you make a custom entity model does the entity in the game have a custom hitbox
Sort of, you do control the hitbox size manually. It's not auto-reading a size 😊
@@ArtsByKev they need to add this to java
Custom plugins such as ModelEngine sorta does that 😊
You are ABSOLUTELY AMAZING in making resource packs, I am sooo bad at making textures, and I'm practicing to get good
We all have to practice 😊 Even I do exercise my art every day ❤
@@ArtsByKev :D
Just so u guys know this and his last blockstate video works on mods.
Yep :D
Since blockstates are vanilla, you are very unhindered.
Tho, if I could choose - I'd rather mod in custom veg and such because of drops and other benefits to having separate definitions
Love your energy,you're funny 😂
can you make random mobs
How random? 🤔
How can you replace the plant model?
I wonder if its possible to fix the color index bug on Minecraft Bedrock grass. Like, on Java the side of grass blocks look normal but on bedrock the side of grass blocks uses prefixed color values instead of the biome tint. It looks awful on custom packs (I know it does on mine).
@ArtsByKev i put the texture EVERYWHERE and it still doesn't work, can someone help me
Minecraft mod cool
I followed your tutorial exactly, but every time I try to import it into Minecraft by dragging it into the resource pack area, Minecraft asks me if I want to import it, but then nothing shows up when I press yes. does anyone know why this is happening? the file is a .zip file with all of the contents inside.
Chwila czemu po skopjowaniu jest "kopia" a nie "copy"?
can you do this with items like swords etc? like having randomized textures
absolutely amazing! i hope u make more videos like this such as making an log with no cube full on circle thanks for the tutorial
Please, do not give up on this YT channel. Your content It's awesome and I'm learning a lot so PLS don't leave this community ;(
No risk :)
ok i watched video 2 times, and i dont think it helps with my Question so here it is.
Id like to create a varied texture for example for sand. Is it possible to detect when a sand block is near a water block, to then choose a darker variation like its wet?
Probably and no.
Provably if you use Optifine, as it has more checks you can target.
No if you play vanilla, as it's not a common check produced by most blocks, and even then it's beyond blockstates since any liquid interactive block has a built in state for "waterlogged" which only checks if it is holding water. The spread check is mainly carried out by water.
if i use optifine how am i able to change a texture of an item if its next to another block? for example i want to change the texture of a fern when its on top of farmland to something different is that possible?
I'll do some digging into this
@@ArtsByKev thank you id appreciate it a huge amount, ive tried for hours but i just cant figure it out.
@@ArtsByKev any luck sir? or if you are too busy could you point me in direction of right documentation to find all the right formats etc or even how to change texture by checking blockstate or whatever.
Soo it is possible to use one texture for many models, but is it possible to use different textures to one model by not copying it(e.g. I have really huge model and a lot of textures for it, and i want it to change in different depending on any nbt tag, is it possible)?
You can set a model as a parent reference :D !!! And that way link to it with several model files that only has a parent model and a texture defined instead of being a full model per say. This way you can a chieve a lot of variation - however: specific blockstates with an array of possible models cannot be modified unless you go in and hard modify the seed of the world for that specific block location :)
@@ArtsByKev Thanks!!!
Will you make some video about some tipps with texturing mobs ?
Yes :) it has been requested that I do several videos ok texturing 😊
Is it possible to un-tint parts of a model, like adding different colored flowers to lilypads or grass?
Via compoment groups, yes.
You can make a model that applies during certain cirkumstances or on top of your model, which can hold other data.
@@ArtsByKev How would I go about doing this?
By assigning multiple models to one state
@@ArtsByKev Ooh, right. I get you. I'm new to this, thank you so much!
How did you get the .json files? Did you make the model in blockbench and then export it as json?
I don't have a way to export as json.
do you know if something similar is also doable in bedrock edition? i want to make 3d models for flowers.
Yes, it is - info can be found in obscure places 😅
Since it is experimental features we don't engage with it atm.
@@ArtsByKev ah, okay i see! Thank you very much for the info!
Very Underrated Channel. Also, very informative video! Thank You for this!
You're welcome!
Nice job, but im a bit confuse, why did you choose a 32x32 plant, with a 16x16 texture pack? THx
Personal preference. I wanted foliage to stand out more :)
These block state tuts are great 👍
Fuck I love this channel. Once I'm no longer an exceptionally broke college student I'll be getting your Patreon. Thanks so much for all these videos and the content that you put out.
looks like hytale
Pls make a video how to coded a better leaves in minecraft like bushy better leaves
You are a big fan of 3D leaves? 😊
@@ArtsByKev like the 1m in the video🙃
Yep! I'm getting to that in a near future video 😊👌
@@ArtsByKev yay
I wish block states com ik ng t bedrock edition :)
Ye, it's a bit more difficult in Bedrock
How to make bushy and leaves texture
Aye aye! 😎
is there a way to convert entity models into block models for java? since the blocks i wanted to make were rural electric power poles etc.
Hm... I get your query, and will say that the only really "clean" option is to go for modding the game.
The second "okay" option is to use a combination of items (which will stop rendering at X distance) and block geometry.
Using blocks only, is quite limited - but if you know what you want to do, my best tip is to check out redstone or string as your go-to blocks for that kind of effect.
@@ArtsByKev i forgot to mention that i am making a mod with custom blocks and items. and i am a little new to it XD
Aaaah 😅
i really appreciate it
Make texture minecraft realistc minecraft badrock pe realistc mobs
🤔 Interesting suggestion
@@ArtsByKev thank =)
@@ArtsByKev Hi I just spino 2 but with a different dinosaur I forgot to talk to the models you made like Enderman creeper spider I liked these models
why doesn't it work with optfine?
It sure works a charm with optifine, the only difference is that optifine also allows caps syntax - something vanilla can't have.
@@ArtsByKev the custom blocks option was just disabled optifine
Aight! ;D
nice
oH MY!!! XD
HAHAHHAHAHAHA WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU?????
Who hanged you there??? LMAO
Btw this is nice!
So... I was... well... they did sound Australian! ... I think 🤔
Jokes aside, you'll get to know more when next I do a dev vid on Tameless! 😍
:)
(:
helloo! i have a question about texturing, is it possible to make a texture pack compatible with a mod?
where can I get the resourcepack tho?
Yooooo random question. How did you manage to set your health bar into numbers. I'm searching for it for a while now but i still can't find a solution on how to do it. Can you mayeb react with a link or a short tutorial or somehting I have to search for?? Love your video's it really helped me alot with custom stuff
First
Oh yikes! Even before it's up! Such speed much wow 😌👌
Wow, man... This is some serious stuff here.
Amazing quality. Great work. I will be able to make my own mod now. Thanks xD
Yey! Looking forward to seeing it! 😄
Can i connect/add CustomModelData with BlockState?
They are vastly different things.
CMD is for items
BlockState is for In-world placed blocks
@@ArtsByKev But if I want to have an impact on blockstate, so that it is not random only as in the case of CMD, so that it can only be called with a command. Is it possible?
If you can use a plugin to change the seed ID of a specific block coordinate in the game world, that would be it
I changed the red mushrooms and poppy textures and now my mooshrooms and the iron golem's poppy keep changing between those different models.
I literally just wanted a 3d mushroom which is sometimes a little bit rotated. Everything works fine. But it looks weird because its constantly changing the model.
A tip here is to save your model's texture with a different name! :)
So, whilst minecraft looks for that "item" it goes "aha, it's this model, and its texture is... oooh"...
I've not tried to spawn those mobs with custom 3D files - but if they have the vanilla model still - follow my suggestion above! :)
light theme, light theme, light theme
my eyes
Great video! Keep it up!
Thanks for watching 😍
Sorry, but I cant seem to get my models to work, every time I export them they wont load in minecraft, i have followed the tutorials but the models wont load. Please help if you can.
Were they made as java/item models?
Do they have any rotation not inline with 22.5, 45 or 67.5 degrees?
What are your display settings?
How won't they load?
I just cheked again and found why, it seemed as if i had some sort of wrong rotation for it to work, but now it does! Thanks! 👍
No worries!
The next vid is touching on model issues and how to solve most of the ones I come across.
By The way, I just wanted to tell you something. I make games as a hobby and in my latest game, I have gotten a lot of inspiration from you and your models and videos. I have been watching your videos basicly every time I work on my game and I just wanted to say thank you!
Oooh ☺ How greatful I am to hear!
Not going in the jungle this time =)
11:35 - 13:00 This was the guide I needed, thank you.
You're welcome! 😊
will there be a closer video about integrating mob models into jave edition with model engine and how to integrate the mob into mythic mobs
? would help me very much. very good video
Yes, that is being worked on. We recently played around with ME 2.0 beta and will potentially begin there as it sorta lines up with an already existing pipeline 😊
@@ArtsByKev im hyped
great video, i came across it in my search for a way to use something similar to custom model data on blocks/foliage
Do you know if its possible to add a new texture to the poppy for example, but only have it show if the poppy in question has a specific value of sorts? (like custom model data on items)
Frankly, they are seed-controlled. Every block coord has an ID, if you could find a way to affect that during runtime then perhaps 🤔
hello there 0:13
so funny
I wonder if you can apply the grass's uv to a creeper's texture to make it truly change depending on the biome.
Edit: You explained it in the end.
I do believe you could have biome affected visual behaviour, but only in mods, or in Bedrock edition through some kind of check & textureswap.
Is there a way to make your model in blockbench and insert it in mc like a new model ?
New? You mean, completely additional?
Then in Java, data packs and mods are your options.
