I honestly just can't get over this channel. Its such a new channel, but brings so much inspiration in to my life. Its incredible what you do and I hope to watch your videos for years to come.
I live in Dubai and have watched some interesting documentaries on how the Burj Khalifa was built. But your incredible video has given me a renewed appreciation for this marvel!
Ezra Patty So was the pyramids in Egypt (Giza) the Taj, garden of babylon and most other historical wonders of the world.. The problem is that the wonders of the world you mention are from a completely different time period this was all before the scientific revolution, where people didn't yet establish all of these ideals of human rights etc.. none of these are built in modern day times where human rights and all of these other concepts are wide spread and understood. The UAE has a human rights issue, Dubai knows very well what they are doing, and they are trying everything they can to hide the poverty in the outskirts of dubai.
ziad emad There are laws and human rights which prevent things like this happening in 1st world countries, they have workers rights workers laws, minimum wages to prevent poverty etc you cannot just pay someone anything you want and treat them anyway you want. Are you honestly this ignorant that you are going to deny the human rights problem they have? Do some research on the matter before you say statements that make no sense.
The dampers in the tuned mass damper (TMD) are primarily for wind. Earthquakes bring a broad range of frequencies, and because of that a TMD system isn't much good because you might be able to tune out the worst expected frequency, but there will still be many other frequencies that will be detrimental to the structure. Wind loading however tends to be in a primary frequency, and then can be tuned out. The dampers will certainly benefit the earthquake resistance of a building, but not enough to consider it as a method of resisting earthquakes
story drift !, earthquakes are critical for the first 5 or so stories then deflection reduces up the building. anything placed in the top floors of the building is for wind.
That building is incredible. I absolutely love your channel! :) Think I'm putting you as favourite channel of the month, easy to binge watch & come away with new knowledge!

Hello, I'm belgian and I speak French and I think your videos are very interesting for me because I learn the English and also I learn things about How does it work 😀
a correction: You dont battle urban population grow by super-tall buildings as they are simply too expensive. Instead you densify the existing housing areas. These super-tall buildings are more a big.dik.contest than an economical reasonable option.
This "densification" you speak of, might that manifest in the building of high rises to accommodate more people in a smaller area? If you can't build out, build up.
NuclearSavety its better to live in a decently sized apartment in a tower building than in some cramped small apartment with like 3 roommates and a 10 floor buildings
Wow! Great video! The main reason I subscribed to your channel is that I knew I would get really good content. You are obviously knocking these out of the park and your production value seems amazing. Just know that your videos educate and create smiles with all the people who watch them. You've created a great channel and the world is better off having it
I usually have a hard time maintaining attention on a video, but you managed to keep me focused the entire time. This was very instructional and fun to watch. Thank you!
The main problem for even higher buildings is it's elevator network. higher buildings would normally mean that there are more people working or living in them. These people need to be transported and the higher you go, the more people you have, the more elevators you need. conventional elevator shafts would need so much space, that there's nothing left at the bottom. But German elevator company Thyssen Krupp has that covered for the future. They invented a system with multiple levators moving in the same shafts. This will increase capacity drastically and the buildings could go higher again.
That system also allows for the elevators to move completely independent from each other and even horizontally to go to different elevator exits or to "overtake"
NeoDerGrose Don't know off the top of my head, but I'm pretty confident I've run into content about elevator shafts that do, or at least could support multiple independent elevators (there are others with multiple elevators, but where they all move in concert), and there are definitely systems that incorporate the capacity to move both horizontally and vertically.
Are you an Aeronautical Engineer ? What is your name? Your way of collection of information and showcase them is awesome. I want to learn a lot from you.
I believe they found him as a feral child living with badgers. He was then civilized and taught how to read and write. And now works as a sanitation engineer.

Ummmm, there are tectonic plates in the Persian Gulf, so not sure what you're talking about! And let's not forget climate change, which is taking place around the world...
great video, really informative. I would however disagree with you on how common these buildings will be (extrem tall). Burj Khalifa is so big that it´s not profitable anymore. As a tourist attraction for the town it´s great but the building it self well never see profit (as a heard). I would think we will build higher but still maybe keep it between 300-500m and not up to +800m.
I'll be making a proper video about how cities will likely change over the next 100 years. On average buildings will need to grow, but yes supertall buildings won't be the norm for a long time. They can be profitable though, this is why I said they will stop being a decadent symbol of wealth. The Burj Khalifa is amazing, but it really wasn't needed.
thanks for response :) I'm a mechanical and material engineer so I really like where your two channels are going :) What kind of engineer background do you have?
I feel guilty about the second channel not having any content yet! Will try and put a short summary up there soon. Talking to my home Uni about partnering with them for that channel soon. I have a bachelors degree in Biomedical Engineering and a Masters in Aeronautical

Haven't been slaves in Britain since the Romans. but, in any case, slavery is a horrific abuse of human rights, it was when America did it, it was when the Japanese did it, it is when the Saudis are doing it.
Slavery largely hasn't been nearly as bad as depicted. You wouldn't buy a new car to turn around and intentionally damage it. And while there are definitely concerns with labour rights, calling it slavery is way out of proportion.
Oh, and slavery extended for nearly a thousand years after the Romans, and was basically replaced with something far closer to slavery than the labour conditions you're bitching about now, so, I don't know what kind of double standard bullshit you're trying to pull, but you should reinspect your prejudices.

As soon as I thought 'helical strakes' you then said it straight away in your video xD Great information, by the way. I truly have learned something interesting today thanks to you.
I was in Dubai for the grand opening of this building. The height of it is truly amazing. You really have to visit Dubai to appreciate the immense height first hand.
Awesome! Why would you even come in the first place? It's actully better if you never come because a city like Dubai doesn't need people who are negative and probably super jealous like you! which is why it's one of the best cities in the world whether you agree or not, or whether you like it or not! Whatever you say won't change that fact :) The people here are elegant and respectful, we don't need someone like you to worsen our reputation :),Have a shitty day.
Shirō Ishii Not everyone in Dubai is rich. What you said is the equivalent of saying that everyone's rich in the USA because Trump and Bill Gates are rich.
With the world-population continues to accelerate we need to tear down a lot of old buildings and start building higher buildings right now, so they're done by the time they're needed. Awesome video by the way!
Fantastic video! It blows my mind that you can do that just with deliberate cross-sectional design.

A chef once said "nature is the true artist", seems like that quote still holds :)
Fidget Spinner.
Fidget sinner
Burj spinner
Loved this video man, really helping to get a better understanding about the world
In my city there are just very few skyscrapers, because they want a fucking cathedral to dominate the skyline
I talk about this in the next video
i live in frankfurt
the only city in germany with a skyline and buildings over 200 meters hight
Mr Ubanity Well aren't they total scum!
Mr Ubanity you live in antwerp?
"If you want to see what a society really believes in, look at what the tallest buildings on the horizon are dedicated to."
I hope you can get some more people to help out with these videos some time. One video every month just doesn't feel like enough, especially since you now have two channels. But still, awesome videos man, keep up the good work!
"Insert capitalism is evil troll bait"
"insert minecraft is for kids bait"
*insert good grammar here*
This is officially my favorite channel... Keep it up
went to dubai... didn't fly in on the A380 LOL
rip
Emperor Trump so? i went to dubai in 2015 with emirates 777-300ER
That sucks
He was going from Ireland so they don't have enough people flying from there to make an a380 profitable
Patrick Barry my dad flew to Dubai on a380 and I'm so jealous
Great info!!! The video length is perfect!!!! Keep the great work up!!!
"Burj Khalifa"? more like "Mia Khalifa"

BLACKEDRAW
As soon as I thought 'helical strakes' you then said it straight away in your video xD
Great information, by the way. I truly have learned something interesting today thanks to you.
The thumbnail looks like a fidget spinner
I was in Dubai for the grand opening of this building. The height of it is truly amazing. You really have to visit Dubai to appreciate the immense height first hand.
Every time I come to Dubai, I want to leave the following day. Horrible, soulless, tacky place
thank you for your completely relevant and necessary comment mr.peanuts!
I don't understand why you would say that.
Some people have work obligations unlike you filthy rich in Dubai. You're all as ignorant as you can humanly get.
Shirō Ishii Not everyone in Dubai is rich. What you said is the equivalent of saying that everyone's rich in the USA because Trump and Bill Gates are rich.
I really enjoy your videos! The blueprint style diagrams look good, and are also effective. Hope you keep making these for a long time!
i paused my ad block and watch the beginning ad for you, nice video
The Burj Khalifa is the best, most beautiful building ever made. I just love it :)
Thanks. It was incredible, elegant explanation of fundamentals connected to modern practical ideas; I learnt so much.
As usual with this channel..
I LEARN.. Thank you.
I like how you suggest some of the Great Courses at the end of the video
I like this channel. Every video so far had me interested. Might have something to do with that sweet accent of yours. Keep up the good work!
With the world-population continues to accelerate we need to tear down a lot of old buildings and start building higher buildings right now, so they're done by the time they're needed.
Awesome video by the way!
