- The Starfire Bass II is a dual-pickup semi-hollow bass guitar that brings additional sonic options to one of Guild’s most iconic models.
The Starfire Bass II originally debuted in 1967, shortly after the single-pickup version, and quickly garnered a following that included Jack Casady (Jefferson Airplane) and Phil Lesh (Grateful Dead). The addition of the BiSonic BS-1 neck pickup on the Starfire Bass II gives bassists a warmer, smooth sound for added tonal flexibility. This double cutaway bass guitar features an arched laminate mahogany top and back, and mahogany sides, dual Guild BS-1 pickups, individual volume, tone, and master volume knobs, and a pickup selector switch.
A clear, high gloss finish highlights this bass guitar’s natural beauty. The Starfire Bass II brings Guild’s vintage vibe to the modern bass player. Available in Natural, Cherry Red, Emerald Green and Black.

nice playing, good sound !!
Love my bass - Guild=Quality 👌🏿
Deep!
loving mine!
Love my Starfire 1. What flat wounds are these? I'm finding most medium scale strings have silk ends that hit the nut because they are just a little too short, but long scale is too long...
sounds more like an acoustic instrument (which it is of course), more alive, more woody, resonant
Wigging out on a Guild!
what colour is that bass he is playing it looks like the starfire 1 cherry red but the starfire 2 cherry red doesn't seem as dark?
Looks great! I can't decide between a Starfire and Starfire II. Haven't yet found a Starfire II in a shop to try out.
definitely the II. The extra pickup opens up the low end and gives you the ability to make the bridge sound fuller.
I would be curious how it sounds with more decay.. in this video the sound was really muted. I dig the look of these basses, hope it will be available in local shops soon.
Check out the Chris Hillman signature demo. He plays a lot of open strings in that.
what colour finish is on that starfire bass?
Great bass. But .... does anyone know where I can pickup a SOFT CASE? Can't find one that fits...
Try telling us you don't like the bass while saying you like the bass.
What's Adele like then? Bit of a diva? lol
