      What are you talking about? The X-Men continuity is great.
      What? You still don't understand how characters refuse to age at all in the span of 20 years? You still don't understand how Sabretooth somehow doesn't remember that Wolverine is his BROTHER in the first X-Men movie?! You don't understand how Professor X ended up alive in Days of Future Past, despite being killed off in X-Men 3? How Wolverine inexplicably got the metal back in his body? Where Logan and Deadpool take place in the X-Men timeline?

      To answer some of those things, Charles survives because he entered a different body, which you can see post credits. It's never said that Sabretooth doesn't remember who Logan is. But in the first movie he isn't much of a character. Logan got his Adamantium back because DOFP took place before the events of Origins and Apocalypse confirmed that the weapon X program still happened.

    I think guys like Vox just have trouble with the idea of a fictional universe in general. Punisher can exist in the same universe as Spiderman because the world is vast enough to allow nuance. Like our own world conflicts can arise that other people aren't and may never be aware of because the universe doesn't occupy a small town where everyone knows and talks to eachother.

    • @MysteriousTomJenkins
      @MysteriousTomJenkins 5 років тому +117

      Mmhm, these characters don't live in the same area and they have different problems to deal with. Why would Iron Man show up to help Daredevil find evidence to prove Fisk is evil when he's already dealing with people trying to steal his tech and kill him? Why would Hulk be helping Cap chase down his former buddy? Hulk is hard to control and likely has other shit going on where he can't just be on speed dial when Cap needs some muscle. Just like the real world, big shit can happen in one place that doesn't effect people in another. I only hear about a major shooting when I happen upon an article or someone I know tells me, otherwise such a major event would never be known to me and I occupy the same universe as it, I think its reasonable that the MCU follows the same logic.

      Clint is a pretty funny and decent character and can hold his own in battle the same as Natasha. In fact I really think he should be getting a movie instead of Natasha; we've already seen soooo much of Black Widow and she's really not got much character other than "sexy sassy dangerous chick" (if the MCU can find a way to actually give her character in her movie then props to them though) and Clint has an actual struggle that has yet to really be focused on. I think it'd be interesting to see a movie (sometime inbetween civil war and infinity war) about his decision between his family and the Avengers, and maybe we could see more if how his superhero-lifestyle affects his family.

    He’s saying that the X-Men universe is a shared universe, but it wasn’t until Deadpool. Until then, they were just sequels and Wolverine spin offs. Well, we do see the X-Men Dark Phoenix team in Deadpool 2, but that's not 100% proof that they're both in the same universe. (Although if we see the same scene from the X-Men side, then that *will* confirm a shared continuity.)

  • @ther0ach28
    @ther0ach28 5 років тому +899

    Also, what did they expect other than just small Easter eggs? That's how the world works and actually gives it MORE continuity. Banner is a famous scientist, so of course he'd have his picture up along other famous scientists. If anything this makes the world feel more fleshed out and lived in. Like, you know, the real world... I understand that superhero conflicts is a lot bigger than normal human conflict, but when something bad happens in one place, the entire world doesn't go to aid. Like two countries going to war doesn't mean WW3. And something that IS big enough to be like a World War, they DO get together. Avengers(1-3) and Civil War.

    • @pittland44
      @pittland44 5 років тому +41

      Also, in the real world we don't constantly reference people, even famous people all the time. Do people (other than the shmucks at ESPN) talk constantly about Lebron James or Kawhi Leonard? Not really. Even people who are in the news are not always talked about by everyone because life doesn't work that way, we have other things to deal with. It's like saying a reference to Bruce Banner in science class isn't enough to "flesh out the universe" as if that actually means anything. The fact is that they are fleshing things out by having references to the various Avengers. Just going off Spiderman: Homecoming alone it's not an argument that holds up. Peter goes to science class where Bruce Banner's picture is on the wall. His gym class is using a series of PSA/after school special type videos that involve Captain America. He talks with Iron Mans assistant on the phone. His nemesis in the film is created by the actions of Tony Stark and the aftermath of the original Avengers movie. The idea that the Avengers aren't really a part of this universe is ludicrous, because one movie alone dispels the notion. The same is true of Antman when he thinks he's going to an empty Stark warehouse and it's the New Avengers HQ. And who does Antman meet there? None other than Falcon. The events of Age of Ultron draw the Wakandans out of Wakanda, which leads to the involvement of T'Chaka and T'Challa, which leads into the events of Black Panther, and so on and so forth.
      Also, the various Avengers aren't all together all the time and they do have their own lives and affairs. Steve Rogers is busy trying to find Bucky and deal with the fallout from Hydra. Tony has a business to run and is busy dealing with the ramifications of his own actions. Thor has to go back to Asgard and deal with Loki, Dr. Strange has all kinds of crazy stuff going on. Peter has school, the list goes on. It's an argument that doesn't really hold up when you think about it, which is why it's just clickbait.

Like I myself find Batman to be a bit overrated but that's literally only my opinion and I understand what people love about it, some of it even I love. Not quite. Saying something is overrated doesn't mean that it's too popular. That may be how some people use it, but that's not what it means. What the word means is hat something isn't as good as a majority of people think, or literally, that it's rated too highly. For example, if someone thinks it's ridiculous that there are so many people that are so passionate about sports, then they would say that sports are overrated. Conversely, if someone thinks that something is better than most people think, then they would say that it's underrated, or literally, rated too lowly.

      The vox video’s argument boiled down to, “its popular and well loved so I hate it.” Which is fine, but I just hate how they use it as a definitive. Captain Midnight (I think that’s his name) also pointed out that Vox conflated a “universe” with a “cross-over episode” which is lazy research on behalf of everyone involved. The MCU is one of a kind, it’s a whole universe in which each of these movies and shows interact and have effects on one another. It’s essentially an AU where superheroes, magic, science and Wakanda exist. I think it boils down to vox saying they’re tired of the MCU and that’s a fair assertion, but it’s just an opinion, it’s not a fact.

    in CA:TFA, the time period was during WW2 which was actually impactful because without captain America then hydra, a rogue branch of the Nazis, would have bombed the hell out of the eastern seaboard as well as taking America out of the fight in ww2.
    in CA:TWS, this movie was extremely important because S.H.I.E.L.D., the organization that held the avengers legally was compromised and thus SHIELD was shut down due to it. which then negatively impacted the avengers in civil war.
    in CA:CW, this movie then split the avengers due to MASSIVE destruction with powerful individuals with no jurisdiction then has cap and the siding individuals be against each other. meaning that since the avengers have split, the universe of the mcu will be then compromised by you know who.
    he only made one valid point, but yet skips over other movies to just justify his motive.

      Because of the villain. His whole evil motivation was "sempai didn't notice me". The bait and switch at the end with the villain was also awful. Why does every Iron Man movie need an angry rich guy who's basically the evil Tony Stark as the villain? You know, looking back on it, the Iron Man movies have had the weakest story lines, save maybe the first one which had a really strong 2/3rds, it just fell apart at the end with a really lame "boss battle". But Robert Downey is so good at what he does, he makes them entertaining. Without his charisma, people would be a lot more critical as somehow the Iron Man movies are some of the worst of the MCU in terms of writing, villains, and plot.

    Okay let's do what Vox did to the MCU but to X-Men. In the MCU you'd need to decide whether you stand with Stark and that enhanced individuals should be monitored by the government because even heroes like the Avengers cause trouble, or, if you stand with Captain America on whether you think that heroes aren't necessarily responsible for the damage that super villains cause (I haven't actually seen Civil War). In the X-Men universe, you just need to decide if do or do not like a person based on their powers. See? I can oversimplify things for my needs too Vox.

    I had mixed feelings about Spider-Man: homecoming when it first dropped. On one hand, the spidey purist in me was pissed that Iron Man was spidey’s mentor, because the whole deal with Spider-Man is him figuring it out on his own and being his own person. Having stark baby him was insulting lol
    Granted once I watched the movie I changed my mind a bit.
    But the big point I loved in Homecoming was how well the movie showed the ramifications of the Avengers existence in both a nuanced and plot dependent way. The connection to the MCU made Vulture super believable, and obviously people are dressing as avengers in this universe. To me it helped establish the peripheral world building of the MCU without detracting from the development of a good and fully fleshed out story. Like you don’t need to watch the other MCU movies but it really adds depth to the franchise as a whole. You can enjoy this as a teen comedy, or a part of a much larger universe, because it is both.
    TL;DR
    Vox is stupid. Homecoming was amazing.

    The MCU is like sowing.
    Sometimes, sowing can have rips, were the 2 thing don’t mix well. The MCU is neatly sown, at less usually. And the string used to sow them together, sows through multiple times, sometimes with little rips, but still put neatly. And the things you sow together are all made nicely, sometimes with extra parts(sequels) that can help it sow with other things.
    And that is why the MCU is putting other characters in other movies, is perfect 👌

  • @austinleach1307

    From what I can ascertain, it seems like the Vox dude wants the MCU movies to feature the entire cast on a more regular basis, and to have a more central conflict that spans all of the movies, which should also be "mature" and "deep". Yeah, that would suck, because it's the MCU's variety of characters and stories that have allowed the franchise to have 20 movies in 10 years and still be a huge success. Comparing the MCU to the X-Men is a fucking terrible comparison, because in the scope of Marvel, the X-Men movies are ONE property, while the MCU cover several (I count 10 as of now, Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Avengers, Guardians, Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, Black Panther). In comic book terms, asking the MCU to have a more streamlined and centralized story is asking Marvel to print 6 different comic books that all tell the same story. That would be shit.

Thor: The Dark World had the action that did take place on Earth end rather quickly and ditto for Guardians Of The Galaxy Volume 2. Captain America: The Winter Soldier made it clear that HYDRA was keeping tabs on the other avengers hence Steve and Natasha go to Sam for help since he is affiliated with neither. Ant-Man and the Wasp had Scott on house arrest and Hank and Hope on the run so they could call for help, plus the clip from the first he dubs a "heavy handed excuse". Finally Doctor Strange had most of the action take place in other dimensions where the outside world could see what was going on.

And yes, you are correct, they did something people didn't think could work because before the MCU, every super hero film was standalone, Spiderman was only Spiderman, Batman was only Batman but now every super hero Marvel and Disney have the rights to will more than likely exist in the same world. Its successful, it makes money, which is why the Dark Universe, the DC Cinematic Universe and the Godzilla Universe are being made, it works, so other companies want their piece of the pie. There is no larger cohesive theme justifying why they all should be in the same universe. Sure, they can share the same universe, but they could just as easily be in different ones. And that makes all of the crossovers seem kind of hollow. You could easily exclude appearances (for example antman in civil war or captain marvel in endgame) and they wouldnt change the story, so obviously these crossovers arent story driven.
