@@kamikazitsunami We really can fit a lot in our cabinets! I'm not sure why people do the shorter cabinets so commonly. When we first started our build we planned to do another cabinet jutting out over the door like we also so commonly see but we love having the space open. We do often have stuff along the door but try to keep the area cleaned up as often as we can.
Great built not bought van, nice work! Don’t know why you seemed almost apologetic about up-cycling things you have found or been given, kudos to you for creating what you needed and going your own way rather than following the heard with butcher block counters, shallow cabinets etc. Also refreshing to hear honest opinions on certain equipment and highs & lows of the lifestyle. You seem a really nice and grounded couple, happy travels 🤙🏼 P.S. your window covers looked very professionally made 👍🏼
@@tornad377 We have to be resourceful. We shower at parks or other places we can find showers. We also have a shower bag we can heat in the sun and use in more secluded places. I often wash my hair in the sink and we also do good old fashioned sponge bathes or use wet wipes. Whatever gets the job done! We do also plan to join Planet Fitness, which is another good place to get showers.
We like the simplicity as well! We like that the foot pump is quiet, doesn't use any power, and helps us conserve water. It was really convenient to buy a self contained power unit - especially when a more complicated system was way over our heads! 😆 We've had a few frustrations with our unit but have been working it out.
I think you have thought of everything to make your van perfect! A rod along the back door, finishing the doors to match rest of van, the closet, the space above the side door for pictures, the cupboard sizes, kitty door ❤, the back screen, I could go on and on! Thank you for sharing your "home" and your honest comments about the lifestyle!
Thanks so much, Lisa! We definitely put a lot of thought into it, which explains why it took us about 2.5 years to "finish" the build! 😆 Even still, we continue to make small changes and improvements. We hope you'll follow along on our channel. Feel free to reach out with any questions.
Thank you, Harriet! 😊 That means so much. We've been pleased with what we were able to do with repurposed materials. Maybe someday we'll get to Australia! That's always been a dream of mine! - Audra
Hi guys so cool to see the van tour, love to Steve, and Audra. Subscribe they are the sweetest, love the van we were so lucky to meet them, and see the van so cool.
Love Steve and Audra’s van and their UA-cam channel. Such a nice van build! We followed their advice and have been using our van a lot before we’ve finished it.
Thank you! Repurposing and keeping costs down were two priorities of our build. We didn't end up buying a lot of wood and that really gave us a nice sense of accomplishment to see what we could do with stuff found on the side of the road! We like thinking outside of the box and the bug screen has worked out well!
@@marciaburrows7070 We love that! You are so right. We're always rather shocked by what people throw out when it's probably not too much work to find someone that would use it
Thanks you so much! We're really happy with how the staining turned out. We actually used diluted paint! (You can see how we did everything in our van build series!)
I like this! How did you make that wall art, Audra? I assume you have this for sale somewhere? Then I saw the link to your channel, in the description, checked it out and saw 1) hey, South Florida; I used to live in St Pete and 2) hey, Lady Gray Gray Gillespie Pinkerton; I called my first cat Timothy Samuel Flint (but he didn't know that). Both a long time, ago, granted.
Hi Angela! Thanks! I have a couple of videos on our channel where I show how I made the artwork and I'd be willing to sell the designs. Please feel free to message me via our Facebook or Instagram with questions or to connect. We just spent some time in St Pete and loved it. We'll be featuring our time there in some upcoming videos. I love the long cat name. 😊 Lady Gray's brother's name was Captain Phaddeus Winky Pinkerton!
That's a great van. We just bought our transit and intend to take your advice and start some camping in it right away. We love the finish on that pallet wood paneling and are wondering how you did that
Thank you! We do have pee containers 😊 and the "toilet" for emergencies but really have never needed it. When space is at a premium you figure out your priorities and what works best for you. Those we know who do have a separate bathroom tend to say they don't actually use it much.
Once I can find our tape measure in our "garage" I'll let you know! 😆 If I forget to comment here, please don't hesitate to send us a message. We're glad you like the wood. We tried to be careful about what pallet wood we used because some can have chemical contamination. We also sanded and coated them with Kilz on all sides before finishing them.
Our experience is that cats adjust pretty well to their environments. Our cat, having a feral mother, is always more skittish with strangers in general but she does very well with vanlife. She has safe spots for when she needs the added security but often sits in the front seat of our van to look around and she also goes outside at quiet spots with leash and harness.
I was laughing because when you said something about a bump or lump in the bed, I immediately thought of my cat Chester; then you lifted up the blanket and there was your kitty! ❤ My van plan will include my pets - they'll be happy as long as I'm with them. 😊
@@lisastrange3067 That's how our cat is too. She's a momma's girl and is happier being with us. She's been doing great in the van! And she is leash trained so we can take her for walks in quiet areas.
Thanks so much for featuring our van! We love sharing our vanlife experience with others!

Nicely thought out! Screen is genius 👌🏻

Thank you! We don't even remember anymore how we came up with the idea but really like it and we like that the "frame" gives us more wall space inside
