He’s not exaggerating. Many, many Black folks grew up listening to only church music because of their family’s religious teachings, especially Black Pentecostal/Holiness. Even today, there are many older people yes, but also young people who do not listen to secular music.
They... One the most Legendary gospel group in this history, responsible for creating fundamental techniques for the structure of music as it is known today. They, and especially their leader, gospel genius Twinkie Clark, are simply historic.
Lifetime made a movie about the Clark Sisters. It was interesting. Growing up in a black church, everybody sings. I was in a group with my sis & cousins. We could sing in random keys & interchange parts, too. We grew up singing together all our lives so our blends were perfect harmony. Also, the vast majority of the musicians play by ear. My brother can play keys & bass guitar by ear after listening to a song for 10sec. (I used to test him lol) but his 1st love are the drums
The #1 Top Selling Female Gospel Group Of All Time. People Played Their Song “You Brought The Sunshine” In Clubs. They Infused 3 Part Harmony From Their Mother Dr. Mattie Moss Clark.
Hey man, I don’t remember your first name yet. I’ve watched two videos and have enjoyed EVERY MINUTE. Sorry I’m late to the party. I love to see music unite us all in ways that we can relate to one another regardless of our backgrounds. It was funny to see you play the game along side the sisters. You are definitely a brother from another mother. Blessings to you and your channel.
Good to have you on board... You must watch/listen to volcanic songs like - JESUS FOREVERMORE... CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF YOUR LOVE... JESUS IS A LOVE SONG... NAME IT CLAIM IT... COMPUTERS RULE THE WORLD... HIS LOVE... FOR THE LOVE OF THE PEOPLE... GOT AN ANGEL... And the number-one smash from their latest album - "HE CAN" - Plus you must watch the film capturing elements of their lives...
That's halfway correct. Most of the biggest black secular musicians grew up in and were heavily influenced by gospel artists. For example, most of the biggest r&b groups in the 90s like Boyz II Men, Jodeci, Dru Hill, 112, EnVogue, Xscape, etc... have all said they grew up listening to groups like The Clark Sisters, Winans, Commissioned, etc.... and copied a lot of what they did. They even covered their songs sometimes on albums or concerts.
