I heard this song for the first time, back in 1973, I was Senior in High School La Salle Institute in Diriamba, Nicaragua, the year before had happen an horrible earthquake in Managua wich is the capital and my city that I was born, it kills thousands of people, so my father send there, but after all we had grest time listening this song with my friends. That was 50 years ago !! I still listen this song everytime i can ! Cheers !
This was the time when there were real musicians, composer's and talent. Where are those good ole days now. Someone said that music doesn't live here anymore. Thanks for platforms like UA-cam.
Running around in my Cougar, with 8 track installed, just driving anywhere. Oh the memories of those Summer nights. No A/C in that car. windows open no plan just listening to ELP.
Played from a good-quality recording on a decent hi-fi stereo, this song is hauntingly beautiful. Keith Emerson's electronics swirl around the room. Gregg Lake's voice is astounding. On of my all-time favorites from ELP.
Young generations nowadays listen music on their smart phones. They never experienced the full rich sound of a good stereo amp with well balanced speaker systems containing woofers, twitters and mid-range. Especially this style of music losses a lot when you listen on a thin sounding smart phone or a mediocre system.
Trilogy is an interesting varied collection of material that has stood the test of time better than some of their other albums ... I bought the vinyl album off a school friend@48years ago - he initially didn't like it ... but soon recognised his folly and tried to buy it back off me 6 months later. I resisted and felt bad ...for a minute or two!😁 I still listen to it today ... I made the same mistake selling Lou Reed's Transformer ... and bought another copy a year later. Still a classic. Folly of youth, eh?
I first heard this song in the back of my friend Don's 1967 Pontiac on his 8track in the summer of '73--and knew I'd buy it the next chance I got. I was 16.
I was 13 in 1973....I used to lie down with a speaker close on each side of me so I wouldnt upset my parents....Trilogy was my favorite album that year.
The songs are already wriitten, in the air, in the nature, in the space. The TRUE artist has the GIFT of taking that song just like a flower petal is plucked. He don't have to compose the song because it's already composed. The artist is just one more piece, within the flow of universal energy. From the beginning is a breathtaking song like a delicated soft petal plucked from the sound of the UNIVERSE. Without a doubt, Emerson Lake and Palmer have the GIFT of the true artists.🙏 MeTTa ❤
I remember well. My family had just finished picking cotton at 50 cents a busshel. I was in my bedroom. regular radio. No FM yet. I remember wearing gloves. Cotton had thorns. Neil Young I think was just getting started. And Jimmy Hendrix.
Clock radio goes off at 4 am. This song is playing as 13 year old me gets out of bed to deliver his morning paper route. The year is 1975 and I wish I could go back
What a great band they were, so unique sounding and some of the greatest musicians you’ll ever here. I first learned of them as a young teenager when I bought the Brain Salad Surgery album..wow what an album, just blew my young mind….thanks for the songs ELP 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
It’s in my top ten favorite songs. First time I heard it was in Italy at a bar in 1974. I was with a women who I was madly in love with but we later broke up. You know how it goes “Tis better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all”. Greg Lake does a great solo version of “From the Beginning” plus some King Crimson songs on another YT channel. Good stuff!
This beautiful song came out in my junior year, an awful year. But I made life long friends, one has passed and the other was homeless for awhile. He's picked himself up and started doing OK. This beautiful song brings very cool and sad memories back.
One of the earliest influences on my musical tastes was ELP! The acoustic guitar intro caught my attention, but it was Keith, and his keyboards, most of all that sparked my imagination. I had remembered him with The Nice, another earlier band of his. In the early 70s, I spent most of my money acquiring LPs, many of which were Euro imports that just sounded better than the American-produced albums. I still have them today.
I'm met them all when they played at our club in San Francisco for Bill Graham the Fillmore West where I worked even then they had some great fur collar leather jackets that we didn't have here in the states and after that here in San Francisco you could go to a thrift store and get an old woman's jacket with the fur Cape c o l l a r and you saw it on the collar of your own jacket most of the girls did it on Levi's looked hip and cool but absolutely these guys were the finest Trio that ever hit stage every one of them so accomplished it makes American musicians look like nothing
I feel immensely privileged to own two very decent sound systems to revisit this song with extreme regularity and was also afforded the priviliege of watching ELP perform this tune and other in the early 70's. I especially enjoyed reading all the comments. Thank you so much for posting it.
@@gurgisjones1120 Thank Gurgis, Yes, it fits my needs well and overall I am happy to have downsized. Possessions matter a lot less as I age and I actually feel 100% less stressed. But your channel is top notch, the best audio on YT. Just awesome! Looking forward to what you soon share with us.
I know there was a lot of conflict between the band members but when they got together in the studio or on stage nothing short of magic happened. I’ve seen them live about a dozen times starting with the ‘78 February Nassau Coliseum show after the blizzard. Sadly I missed the BSS tour, which IMHO was ELP at their greatest..
Thank you. It is disappointing when something gets pulled, after the time and effort put into it. Just trying to artistically celebrate great music, with a unique view to go with the music. Adding, not taking away.
One of the first songs I learned on the guitar…and now, 40 years later Im questioning the lyrics of this song. “Everywhere is freaks and Harry’s , dykes and Fairies…tell me where is sanity..” WTF…without without all of them (us) there is no sanity! And yes, so you “want to change the world” then don’t pass the buck, instead buck up! Tap into LOVE…the most powerful force on earth! Don’t be a whimp! We are in this together…forever…
This song is ironic. Didn't Greg Lake commit suicide? Or was it Keith Emerson? Well back in the 70's I used go on these acid trips that would have me so depressed afterwards but then I would hear this song on the jukebox and I would come out of it.

Absolutamente 😊Gracias UA-cam ❤
Mr. Lake-----VERY underrated bass player
Everything about this is perfect. We will never hear it’s like again so enjoy it whilst you can.
We lived during a musical renaissance and we didn’t realize it

I love how you guys say whiles !
Feels like driving in the 70's ... Open windows ... Sunset... Just free.
Closed my eyes and went there! 🤘🏻
This album is actually one of the first albums that I ever bought..u still have it.

Just an awesome band ! I was privileged to see them live twice. What an amazing experience ❤️
It was. 1 of the top five concerts that I've seen !
Visti a Milano in uno storico concerto , era il 1974 ! Fantascienza...
My first concert at 14. Brain Salad tour. The Doobie Brother opened.
Lucky man...
I also saw them twice--including the Anaheim concert '74 from which the amazing multi-disk album was made. Those were indeed the days.
So nice…
This is the cleanest copy I’ve heard since listening to the vinyl years ago.
Every detail.
Thank you for sharing this!
Thanks for noticing and enjoying!

Masterpiece from the summer of my years.
Los años 70, inolvidables!!
how wonderful to hear this after a forty plus year absence - not much that's new can hold a candle to it
This song is in my top three favorite song list. I couldn't explain why, it just is.
This beautiful song came out in my junior year, an awful year. But I made life long friends, one has passed and the other was homeless for awhile. He's picked himself up and started doing OK. This beautiful song brings very cool and sad memories back.
O first fell in love with the music then the lyrics , reminds me of my youth , this is just a perfect song !
Such a gem ✔ Thank you.
Fantastic tune...
A better time, sadly gone forever. Saw them live in London in 1971. Real music, real people compared to now a happy time.
But we can still do our best to try and preserve that, day to day, even if in small ways, which do make a difference.
I hear it for the first time. It's like I tried a new fruits , what a refreshing experience ! Great song
Excellent piece of music and excellent voice!

Had this Album , god those were magic times .
Fantastic song by a fantastic group!
Wish I'd been old enough to see them...discovered them late finally putting songs I'd heard to this fantastic band.♡
never too late, have a nice life
ELP at it's best 😍
Another very well done video with GREAT sound! Thank you Gurgis Jones!
Thanks! I do aim for great sound quality (and high resolution images).
Crank it up cruzing in my 71 vw squareback like the good old days on the way to surf...(:
That's the way to do it. Stay young, keep the good vibes going. Great things should never stop.
Had a 73 squareback, blue, drove it from ct to florida and all over tampa and saint pete

@@ronlanter6906 Still sounds like a good system. Great to go for the audiophile approach. Downsizing is needed at times, so can understand.
