In the late 1970's, we all listened to Leon every Sunday as if he were the preacher and we were the congregation. Leon Live was one of the best he made. God Bless you Leon. I have always loved you and always will.
Me too . I was 12 years old. My father took me to see him. I am a professional Piano player and still love his music. So much so that I am doing a Leon Russell Tribute record..I released the 1st single on youtube .called Tryn to stay alive .and I made a cool video of it as well. He remains in my heart to this day.. you can see it at CaptainSpacetime under the name of Tryin to Stay Alive official release..
Me too. The first concert my new boyfriend (became my husband) took me to was at Brooklyn College May 13, 1974. Huge band and chorus. The stage was packed and the crowd in the balcony was making it shake.
I saw Leon soooooo many times. In the last few years he started talking between songs. Making comments and telling stories like at this performance. Before that he would start his set and never stop....straight through. He also stopped wearing his sunglasses later on. It was so wonderful to see his expressive eyes. Never forgotten.
+1gratefulday I first saw Leon Russell in 1971 but didn't get anywhere near his piano bench, it was at The Concert for Bangladesh and to this young Beatles fan... he stole the show!!!!

Wow, I am totally blown away after watching this. I am a huge Leon Russell fan. I've seen him a number of times in the few decades and you can see the sparkle back in this legends eyes. To see him turn to the audience like this and tell these stories you always knew he had in him but never really shared so much in the past shows I've seen him is just amazing. You can just see the rejuvenation in his performance. Will be seeing him in Hartford come November and can't wait. I haven't seen him in a few years, and I doubt I'm going to be missing any more shows that are in my area for he truly is an icon and as someone else said somewhere on here.......One of the coolest musicians ever to grace a stage. Long live LEON!!!!!
I live my life to imulate as much as possible...LEON RUSSELL....love this legend.....💯💓I'm a OKIE from STILWELL ,OKLAHOMA...WE LOVE LEON OVER HEA...DAMN RIGHT MUCH RESPECT MY BROTHER...💯👍
My response is 4 yrs later, Miss Martha, is to believe we, and that means us, will enjoy Leon's company in Jesus' Heaven. You're probably a shoo-in, Martha. Say a prayer for me, will'ya? 😇💃💖
I Truly believe..leon's soul...iterceptied my soul.....im a self taught dobro picker....& it's brotherman that showed me in dreams....how to nail my dobro...what a teacher....GOD MOVES IN MYSTERIOUS WAYS..for SURE... love ya brotherman💯💓😘
This was in NYC last Feb, & I saw it. He really was in fine form, I had a good time. But I can see it here even better, he really is in strong voice & so comfortably engaged w/ the audience, so fun to see. Why idiot folks are talking is that it's at The Winery, which is an actual winery & restaurant, w/ folks drinking & dining while he & the band are performing. I just came for Leon who I first experiened when I was 14. Was a fortunate one who saw one of Leon's Filmore East shows where Elton John was WARM UP act for him, just imagine ....
Karen R. Sternberg That is one concert I wish I could have seen, along with CFB at Madison Sq. Gardens in 71. I first saw Leon at the 1st MD&E show in Detroit. I think after Detroit, they went to the Fillmore E, where it was recorded and filmed.
That crowd at City Winery was so united in a shared love for Leon that a bunch of us, seats booked singly at the same bar-side table, were given one check. We just seemed to the waiter like friends going out together. What a night!
Sweet Emily so beautiful. RIP Emily Smith. You were part of a time that no longer exists. Part of a world that knew joy and freedom. And you brought so much of that joy into the world. God bless you.
I am a New Zealander who has admired and loved Leon from my early years. I went to see him at the Christchurch Town Hall a long long time ago....and was in ore....Leon walks on stage with a fresh haircut and three piece suit and sits at the Grand Piano and plays ....Somewhere Over The Rainbow.... it took only seconds for the tears to roll.....ever since I have followed Leon as one does....but, jeez....he is still pulling it in....wish I could visit the USA to see him....man he is an inspiration!!!
Noel Hanson was the time you saw him was he with the grass roots revival back around 80? I think that's what they called themselves. It was all guys playing and singing with Leon. They were fantastic. There's a video of one of their performances on you tube. And he starts out like playing over the rainbow. Thought that might be the show your talking about.
Leon, I must go now got to work tomorrow...You were sweet to have us in and we always love listening to you talk OR sing...Luv ya!!! You seem much better than when last I saw you!
Thank you Leon for the joy you brought to me and so many people around this world. I so wish that i could have seen you before you left this world. Leon Russell makes the blues blue.
Leon Russell, the Master of Space and Time! My very first concert, Detroit, 1973. I threw my skate key necklace onstage and Leon put it on! I've seen him countless times since then and I'm hoping o see him again! Thanks for posting!!!!
Hope you see this. I'm from Detroit and saw him first during MD&E at the Eastown. Then 3 times later and I bet I was at the same show in 73. He was fantastic to see. So much energy and he took everyone with him.
He was such a good singer I was so in love with him in high school. And now watching his videos and some of his interviews made me fall in love with him again. He was a free spirit a great musician and I imagine a great Family Man may he rest in peace and made play piano up in God's choir
Thanks Russell for many good memories.. I had much of his work on vinyl back in the day.. He looks great and inspires my ol ass to keep on keepin on big time .. Truly a Prince in this circus of life... Peace
I believe this was at The City Winery in NYC (Winery & Dinner Club). Shows were 2 nights in row, I was at the other one. Two women across from me wouldn't stop talking, when I asked them to pls tone it down a bit, the guy w/ them was drunk & started confronting me; I got management & was seated elsewhere. Manager later told me the drunken guy was a guest of Leon. Pretty good show tho' I'm partial to Leon on acoustic piano not his electric which he played the last few years. I made a point to see him whenever he came to NYC in the last few yrs. Saw him & Elton at The Beacon, Leon twice at City Winery, once at BB Kings Blues Club & a marvelous free outdoor concert in a lower Manhattan waterside park 3 summers ago. Managed to meet him when the Documentary by Les Blank opened here at the Film Forum couple of years ago. He came for the Film & a Q&A afterwards w/ Blank's son. I got to thank him for all the tremendous music over the years & remind him that so many people loved him. He told me 'Bless Your Heart'. I told him that he really made us feel his affection & love for Sweet Emily & that his music never gets old, he thanked me for telling him that. So deeply grateful now, that I got to say thank him in person. Thanks for posting this Show.
Karen R. Sternberg This made me happy. So glad you were able to tell him what I would have loved to say. I hope he did feel the love and so glad Elton put him back where he belonged so others could experience Leon's magic. This video is so sweet seeing him look at the audience while telling them some of his wonderful stories.
Makes me proud to be a Oklahoman. Classic Rock and blues. I have loved Mr. Russell's since the early 70's. I was 8 years old in 1970 and his music still inspires me today!
Leon & the boys are sounding great! I just saw them this weekend (June 6, 2015)...for those who love Leon & have not seen them lately, the band (Jack Wessel, Beau Charron, & Brandon Holder) are tighter than ever & Leon is healthier and stronger voiced of late, as well! Thanks for sharing, Tony!
junk man No, I don't mean the Shelter People...that was many years ago. This is Leon's current touring band and we affectionatly refer to them as "Leon & the boys"!
Saw this same show at pub 44 in New Smyrna Beach, FL. Great set and got to meet his beautiful daughter she took pictures with us. Very nice. One negative thing about who ever posted this show, to bad the two guys couldn't stop talking thru the entire show, very rude and distracting.

Like all of you here I've been a fan since the first record. I noticed one day to my surprise, Leon was coming to my neighborhood, at the great jazz club Yoshi's in Oakland CA! Unfortunately I couldn't go because of that evil, money! But I love Leon and his music 🎶. So grateful for UA-cam to be able to see him. Fly on sweet prince of peace ✌ See you at the next show!
@1:09:13, Tears when he talked about playing Emily's song so he could think about her. Such a sweet soul. Leon was heartbroken here and I'm sure for the rest of his life.
Leon is lookin' & soundin' beautiful !! I'm goin' to see him at The Shed In Marysville TN on July 9th !! So excited !! I have loved Leon since the 70s. this is the first time I get to see him. I skipped Dead & Co to afford the trip.....cuz LEON !!
We saw Leon last night at The Neptune in Seattle last night. His headphones weren't working, so we got to see basically this entire set with Leon less headphones, plus a white cowboy hat covering a blue Hawaiian shirt. Gawd, he still has it!! His band is highly skilled, too! And the stories were all exactly the same! He'd be a fun guy to sit down and chew the fat with!
too bad some in the audience thought their long winded conversations were of paramount importance - and showed no respect by talking over Leon for so much of this show.
I recently went to see Bob Seger on his final tour and was in the 4th row. There were 3 girls behind me talking so loud I'm surprised Bob didn't say something to them. I finally turned around to the motormouths and told them I paid good money to hear Bob Seger sing - not them running their mouths. I told 'em if they felt the need to chitchat they should get the hell out there. The guy sitting beside them spoke up and said: "thank you, I've been listening to their crap for the last 20 minutes". They finally shut up so we could enjoy the music. I am so sick of people who do that. I have no idea why they even go to a concert if they're just gonna run their mouths the whole time.
Excellent player! Brings back alot of memories. Always loved his music. I suppose he needed a good manager or maybe he didn't have one at all. His show must have been easy to sell. I hope he didn't die broke, as so many of our greats have. Didn't know you but I Love you man and always will. R.I.P. Leon
What a set list! Great performances, thank you so much. Seeing DON'T KNOCK THE ROCK & CINEFAMILY PRESENT LES BLANK'S "A POEM IS A NAKED PERSON" W/ LEON RUSSELL AND T BONE BURNETT IN PERSON, Q&A tonight!
Leon was on my list to see for years and I never made it to one show. Although I collected many records of his through out the years. Thank you so much for posting this show. Looks like it was so much fun. Rest in peace old wise one. What a week in music it has been. Losing both Leonard Cohen and Leon Russell in the same week. God bless them both for all the beautiful music they gave us & future generations to enjoy.
so glad I found this. One of my fav albums is Leon Live......just love him. He sounds great. Whatever happend to Chris Stainton. He was great with Leon........Thanx for posting this.
Awesome video...thanks for sharing! I was looking for something to prime the pump...seeing Leon tonight in Grass Valley, CA...small venue that holds 300...should be a great show! I grew up in Northeastern Oklahoma and cut my teeth on Leon. Will always have mad love for "The Master of Space and Time."
Thanks Tony, This is so wonderful, just like when I saw him in April! Don't remember the noting of Starkey Foundation, a good place to donate to! You are so kind to bring your fantastic videos here for all to see. Will watch this one over and over 🎩👓
Thanks for sharing this. I saw Leon a few years back at the new eTown venue in Boulder Colorado - which happens to be a renovated church. For recording (which I didn't do unfortunately), that would be the better venue. I think the fact that it was a church helped to keep everyone quiet.
Saw him about 5 times in bar settings like this over many years....folks were very rude and talked and moved about....basically acting as if he was just some amateur bar band. What a shame he could not get concert billing during the last 20 years of his life or so.
Thinking of going to see Mr. Russell in Grants Pass OR soon. It will be the third time there in18 months. maybe, he lives around there. I'd buy a few tix if I knew he'd give a tribute, at least a nod to Keith Emerson...Peace and LOVE!
In the late 1970's, we all listened to Leon every Sunday as if he were the preacher and we were the congregation. Leon Live was one of the best he made. God Bless you Leon. I have always loved you and always will.
Leon was the first concert I went to. It was his gospel phase, around the Leon live album. kept ticket stub for a long time, still have memories

Yes, I noticed that too. He became more self-comfortable with the age.
I love his live early shows In rough joints. Can't find the live videos. Amazing since I'm from Tulsa!
Love you Leon
I sat on his piano bench when I was seven years old in Macon Ga. that was in 1971 and he's still my favorite. Hope he lives forever

It’s so moving to see from these comments how much Leon was loved. I love him too. RIP sweet Leon.
I think everyone loved sweet Leon. He knew Jesus loved him and that is what made him so ❤ special! He has the love of Jesus in his heart.

too bad some in the audience thought their long winded conversations were of paramount importance - and showed no respect by talking over Leon for so much of this show.
Great! Just wish he had played 'Lady Blue' ~ To this day that song makes me 'weak in the knees!'
Why do so many people insist on gabbing incessantly during a live concert, even if it is a dinner club? Shut up and listen!! Damn!
I have a shirt that reads STFU the band is playing !! Right On !

Jamie T Franklin that must have been something!
God bless them both for all the beautiful music they gave us & future generations to enjoy.
the only bad part of this beautiful concert is the man talking in the back ground. what is wrong with people ? Loved Leon since forever...
Love the second song: Prince of peace. Rest in peace maestro 13.10.2016.
GOD i MISS HIM💔💔💔💔
☝️None better then Leon Russell 💯👍 We love you Leon!
I regret not going to see him at the Coachhouse even though I had many opportunities. Thankfully I saw him in the 70s.

I saw Leon 3-4 times in Greensboro and Raleigh in the last years. Every concert was a wonderful experience. Miss him. RIP big man.
A National Treasure!
YES YES YESSSS
Awesome video...thanks for sharing! I was looking for something to prime the pump...seeing Leon tonight in Grass Valley, CA...small venue that holds 300...should be a great show! I grew up in Northeastern Oklahoma and cut my teeth on Leon. Will always have mad love for "The Master of Space and Time."
Thanks Tony, This is so wonderful, just like when I saw him in April! Don't remember the noting of Starkey Foundation, a good place to donate to! You are so kind to bring your fantastic videos here for all to see. Will watch this one over and over 🎩👓

JUST THE GREATEST SINGER&PERFORMER.🎹❤ThxElton
Love Leon Russell!
Nov. 14 2016. He died in his sleep last night. Words fail me.
It was 13.10, but yes we are missing him.
Always was so in love with leon,,,so lucky to see this still in our lifes,,stuff we would never see , thank you ,to whom it may concern,,
Thanks for posting! Great show from the Master of Space and Time!
Thanks for sharing this. I saw Leon a few years back at the new eTown venue in Boulder Colorado - which happens to be a renovated church. For recording (which I didn't do unfortunately), that would be the better venue. I think the fact that it was a church helped to keep everyone quiet.
Love this. Sweet man! Loved by sooooooooo many! So talented!.There will never be another like him.
Just a year before Leon passed away. RIP Claude Russell Bridges.
I hope I get to meet him one day....he's always been my favorite!
Leons a funny story-teller!
Saw him about 5 times in bar settings like this over many years....folks were very rude and talked and moved about....basically acting as if he was just some amateur bar band. What a shame he could not get concert billing during the last 20 years of his life or so.
I love this show more each time I watch it!!
A great songwriter and performer!! Miss you Leon rest In peace with the angels
What can i say?LEONRUSSELL!
STILL as AWESOME as The 1st Time I saw it,,,
What a great show.
Thinking of going to see Mr. Russell in Grants Pass OR soon. It will be the third time there in18 months. maybe, he lives around there. I'd buy a few tix if I knew he'd give a tribute, at least a nod to Keith Emerson...Peace and LOVE!
The only thing BAD-ASSER than that piano is the dude playing it...
And I love the guitar player's work! Truly excellent and versatile guy. Sings too.
Always wanting Leon to smile. Just a little bit.
he does...
look for the spot where he loses his place in the story he's telling
his whole face changes and lights up!!!
It's only hard to see under the beard. This is wonderful concert.
He has a little sarcastic sense of humour I like it and he looks Santa Claus :).
I never saw him but I will never ever forget Leon Russell!
