    I appreciate your vid, my dude. I've been doing a lot of research myself on these issues, and everything you say is truth. I do want to recommend that those of us that have over-protected a little too long might need some help with the anxiety, whether that be through CBT, meditation, or anything else that helps drive home the point that "These sounds are not hurting you." It's tough to let go of the earplugs when you've been doing it for so long.

      Very well said and you are absolutely correct. Meditation, maybe anxiety meds, good sleep...and in my case a lot of stretching to relax my entire upper body. I think I will do another vid about this soon. Hang inthere, good luck!,

    Every single problem this guy has/had I have. He nails it. I had an acoustic shock incident 5 weeks ago and I am waring earplugs all the time now as it gave me hyperacusis, tinnitus, ear fullness, slight muffling, and jaw ache. It is like I have a marble in my ear. I came to the same realism only today that I may be doing this to myself, and this guy has said the same thing. I am terrified of any loud noise, sirens, babies/toddlers screams, etc. I have tried to keep headphones around my neck (ready to protect my ears when needed) when I go to supermarkets but it is like a military operation, if I hear a noisy kid in the next aisle or nearby my hands shake as I desperately try and get my headphones on as fast as possible. I have to get out of this rut. Did this guy make a full recovery in the end ?

      Hey my friend,
      I will be posting up a new vid in the next couple of days. I am indeed doing much much better. It took a long while with many ups and downs and some very hard times. Hang in there. I know what you are going through, and it Will get better.
      Have you seen a doc and gotten a round of oral steroids? And a good audiologist who is familiar with hyperacusis--If not please do that.
      Always think in terms of inflammation, it's the key.
      Second think in terms of re normalizing. Those super hard to tolerate sounds are not going to harm you and you are essentially retraining your neurological system while you wait for the persistent inflammation to go down. I promise you it will get better,but it takes time and patience and it sucks. Don't throw the ear plugs away but just start to use them less and less in normal situations.
      Another very good thing is stay very hydrated and get a foam roller and use it to stretch your back, and shoulder/neck area so that you can really relax your neck and feel when it is tight. Consistency is really important, as well as relaxation. Pay attention to your jaw, anxiousness makes us tense our jaw up and leads to that inflammation in the ear canal.
      If you are using nsiads(ibuprofen,aspirin etc...) always take with food, you don't need an ulcer to go with this.
      Feel free to ask anything, if I can help I will,
      Todd

    hi, let me introduce myself, my name is a putri from Indonesia, I have been suffering from hyperacuasis for the past 4 months.. the first time I had hyperacuasis was when I had earache when I coughed and had a cold, I was very worried about this, especially since I have a toddler.

    Energy drinks, Pre workout, Caffeine in pill form, CAUSE hyperacusis for me. COFFEE does not! Coffee actual helps normalize my hearing somehow!

    Good video. I think my Hyperacusis and Tinnitus were triggered by PTSD trauma over a period of many years. God knows.

      I understand what you are saying and agree that ptad and trauma can make things "worse" because of the focus that you can have from this perspective and through anxiety that can result. This is where good information can com into play- a good audiologist with a thorough exam can often lead you to a calmer place, it did for me. It gave me information and someone who qas on my side. Start there and just remember it all takes time. Hang in there my friend.

      Hey Victor - I am really sorry to hear what a terrible time you are having. Let me just share a few ideas
      Have you seen an ENT or audiologist? If not try hard to find a good one who can make sure nothing else is going on.
      How long have you had this for? What caused it.
      As I have said in my videos mine has been very bad at times and then at other times it would be much better. In my case I believe this had to do with inflammation of the inner ear, inner ear muscles and surrounding parts...it took a long time for that to relax and feel better.
      In the mean time I still believe that using ear plugs as little as possible is the best track to be on as it will allow your hearing to get back to as normal of a place as possible. Try hard to not isolate yourself as this will just lead you to feel even worse and not have contact with people.
      You are not alone here and I understand how completely crazy this can make you, just take it one day at a time my friend.

      Headphones are probobly the quickest way to bad hearing, they just have so much potential to do damage quickly

      @@teachingbeats oh ya by the time I was 18 the damage was done....just recently it's become unbearable

    • @teachingbeats
      @teachingbeats  9 місяців тому

      @B-qz9fo well, I don't know how old you are but, there is almost always more damage that can be done and more life that you have and want to preserve what is available. It sounds to me like you need to truly stop any overly loud noise, music etc and let everything rest for a long while. Also, if you have not already, you need to find an audiologist who can do a very thorough exam. This way you are starting your rehab from a place where you have solid information. It's always hard to seek out something that you feel will be bad news but in this case it is so worth it.

      @@teachingbeats thx ..yes I'm a musician and I get ansy and pick up my guitar causing a setback..im31 ...my audiologist just did a ten minute test and said ,my hearing is normal and told me that's all she could do...i figured they would do alot of tests but was literally ten minutes..I left DISAPPOINTED

    • @teachingbeats
      @teachingbeats  9 місяців тому

      So, tell me what your main symptoms are? It's great that your hearing is "normal" but as I have come to find out- the spectrum of what makes up normal is varied and the parts all have to be intact or it can feel excruciatingly not normal.

    I've just developed this condition and I'm a drummer. Should I stop playing drums?

    • @teachingbeats
      @teachingbeats  Рік тому +1

      Hey Greg, I would say yes.
      First find an ent or a audiologist who specializes in tinnitus/hyperacusis and get a really thorough exam and testing like I did. At the early stage you don't want to continue to do anything that may possibly damage your hearing more before you can get a very good handle on what is happening. Also you want to give your entire hearing "system" some rest as far as big explosive sounds like what happen in drumming...to get your fix of playing, I suggest picking up some brushes and go down the deep hole of learning about playing brushes for a while. It feels good and it is much much quieter. These days I am playing, but much less and I've adapted my drum setup to use brushes about 95% of the time. It's not the same but has kept me playing and keeps my musical output alive. Good luck!

    • @teachingbeats

      There are a lot of factors I think...where is your hearing at(audiologist)? Are you wearing hearing protection(if not, definitely start). How's your monitoring situation? Wedges, in ear etc...and how does it feel afterwards? The hardest part, I think, is to be stone cold honest with yourself about all of those things and then make the right decision...knowing no matter what, suffering with hyperacusis and hearing loss is not something that you want to get worse and worse.
