I know nothing about surfing. Haven’t heard the name Kelly Slater before in my life. Have been watching every episode as soon as it is released. This is some good stuff!
His full name is Robert Kelly Slater. But everyone just calls him Kelly. Started surfing when he was 5 years old. Most crowned world surfing champion (11 in total) and youngest ever world champ. Very down to earth chap. Likes playing Golf too.
It´s so amazing to know KS even better. He is an amazing character, for sure. I have the same age as him and, for decades, he is a true inspiration for me. Keep alive and kicking, we love you!!
Brasil must be intense for someone famous. Brasil has always been one of my favorite places to visit because the people have passion and love sports. There’s so many cool places in Brasil that are off the beaten track. But I couldn’t imagine trying to be Kelly in Brasil. I was a legend for friends there just for being a gringo who spoke Portuguese and kept coming back. I had friends in multiple spots who’d put me up for a month at a time, treat me like family, just because they were passionate about my return and visit. It looks like the surf there, as off an on as Kelly says it is, is producing some major talents. And if you listen to how Brasilians talk about surfing, it’s easy to see them dominating the future of surf. They take it seriously.
sadly the citizens of Brazil are brain washed by their own govt to put celebrities/athletes on a pedestal and to accept the level of corruption from their politicians. Just like Cuba & North Korea citizens brain washed by their govts. Same with every government. watch "Dr Fuellmich grand jury day 1 Brand new tube" video = SHOCKING how many are brain washed in the world & going along with the evil corrupt polticans/world leaders/health officals with this whole corona con game for the past 2 1/2 YEARS.This video is WORTH WATCHING. pls write down & pass on to everyone.
Thank you for this docuseries" format, you now have the ability to go deeper into a story than ever before. The element that most viewers tend to gravitate toward when it comes to documentaries is the essence of real life. There's an unmistakable feeling of intimacy, of being let into a Mr Slater’s brain for a quick flash , in using snippets of the real world, in a variety of forms. 👑 Mr Slater I give you my homage 🙏🏽. Keep up the good work team and I look forward to watching the remaining series.
I ran into Kelly at my local break. A big swell, a lot of local people watching the swell and Kelly surfing. When he came in, he was surrounded by people. To the point he couldn’t get changed. People were crowding him. I couldn’t believe it, never really been exposed to this before. I was standing like 20 metres away. My first thought was, wow how does he deal with this part of his life. He was kind enough to talk to everyone and hung around for a while. This series of videos is great. Provides insight into the bigger picture and person. Thanks for making it.
People say he is self-centred and all that but it is only to be expected when you get put on that pedestal. I respect the guy and would out of principle not be a fanboy and box him in, that is slightly sad behaviour. But he accepts it comes w the territory and carries that fame so well and turns it around into something positive and help people to set life goals.
If I was really the director of my own life, I never would have come upon such amazing things that I never knew about. The universe is the best director - let it.
What I revere about Kelly is his humility and authenticity despite his fame. He comes across as such a cool bloke, and people I know who’ve met him corroborate that fact too. It’s a model for people to follow. Too many pro-wannabes acting up and giving up being real
Ricardo "friend" Arona. This show is great in so many ways. They credit everyone as "friend", even bazillion time world champion Steph Gilmore is just "friend".
Great episode! I like the intimacy of this series, showing the reality of a world champ, ups and downs and everything in between. Ps, Bet it’s nice to have Ricardo Arona around when the crowd gets a bit much!
Film maker Taylor Steele has a excellent you tube channel called "The Momentum Files" with great old surf videos (of kelly, Machado, Knox, Dorian etc) & surf movies (free).
class act the only surfer st the NY Pro to take time in between heat to sign autographs for everyone and anyone from their kids daughters dogs and Surfboards
Heavy duty screw up by the jet ski pilot. The waves were working over that year. Not so in 22. This episode gives a good insight into that love hate with Brazil. Particularly understandable after that failed moonshot by the jet ski!
Yea. In your 40’s, even if you are fit, just weird stuff happens to your body. You start to sense your body is more susceptible to injury and pain is a bit more frequent. But you can still shred and push the limits in your 40’s. 🤙🏾
Man, Kelly Slater is just a scared child... Woah. Cant believe I never saw how sad and disconnected from Reality he was. I really hope he wakes up and finds peace soon. Hes like a zombie... Very sad and hard to watch..
I think it’s pretty funny how they have jet skis out there for rescue when it’s only 5-7ft waves lol. I know, they use them to shuttle the surfers out, but that’s kind of a cop out to allow that in small conditions like this.
Without the skis, they'd be lucky to get 2 waves each per heat in those conditions. It makes for better entertainment. Having said that, I totally know what you're saying. I used to hate it to, but now I guess I've just accepted it as part of the sport :)
WSL and the Goat is somewhat in bed together. Would be nice if the sponsors was running there own events to give a different spin to every event, can’t watch this WSL (worldshitLeague)
You know how you go around without being noticed? Don’t sit in the drivers seat.. Don’t show your face- ie Sweatshirt sunglasses, mask, hat -not that difficult, have properly tinted windows where you can’t even see in through the windshield. My old neighbor had that on his windshield and 85 percent Tinted or 15 percent however you define tint. It’s almost like your getting yourself upset for this ‘series’ good try though 🤙🏻
When Kelly retires he should become the WSL Contest wave selection Director. Good thing Pat listened to Kelly!!! 🏄♂

I bet Kelly's "Friend" is a no BS type of dude. You don't want to mess with him. Now I get it. He is the bodyguard. haha
Sadly in Brazil someone like Kelly NEEDS one full time
that guy is Ricardo Arona, former MMA Pride champion e BJJ world champion...
