As a dane I will give every tourist a good advice. Go outside Copenhagen. Denmark is much more than Copenhagen 😊 If you go outside Copenhagen then look for gust house called Kro. It’s a very small hotel but the food is often basic Danish food like our mom or grand mom made it 😋
Palle Jacobsen, I live in Copenhagen and I love everything about it, but I would say that it would be a pity if a turist doesnt spend at least some of their time in Denmark, visiting other places. There are so many interesting and beautiful places to enjoy in our country. Our beaches, islands, historic sites, music venues and theatres, specialities in food and drink and public transport is excellent (even though we do like to complain about it, its muuuuuch better than in most other countries😉), or one can rent bikes (with built in gps) or cars if you prefer driving. I may be a "city girl" but I do appreciate and feel lucky that I live in Denmark❤️🇩🇰
exactly.. see what you want in copenhagen and move on as soon as you can. its a expensive place with selfish people. denmark is not that big and you can travel across it in less than a day so dont be afraid to go exploring.
Thank you so much for the kind words, it’s nice to see people who also can appreciate our culture, when looking through a lot of videos, we are often seen as rude, because these people don’t really try to understand us, and only see the surface of our culture from outside of Denmark.
I lived in Denmark for over 3 years. I can highly recommend it. I was awful at the language though, it is beyond comprehension to speak it (reading and writing is straightforward though) - not that it mattered much for communication as pretty much everyone speaks perfect English. Big shout out to my local - the Moose Bar in Copenhagen K.
Thank you for your up-load: İ am Danish but live in the middle east now. Yes, Denmark is a safe place and we do not carry guns and got a system/government that is working for the people not against them. Hope that you will make it back to Denmark again for it is a very special place- a safe heaven.
You get the award of the year for how Godlike perfect danish your "Gul" (Yellow) pronounciation was. If in quiz should guess the danish person when pronounced yellow, I wouldn't be able to distinguish that with a danish person pronouncing it. And just your pronounciation in general is by far some of the best I've heard of someone who haven't lived in Denmark for like 10 years.
I am a Dane, and a proud atheist, but I also appreciate the views of religious people - though I cannot say that I understand them fully .... All things considered, this is one of the best characterizations of Danish people on UA-cam... open and honest, what more do You want?
I absolute loves this video cause it makes me see our country in a different way, to us Danes we see this kind of lifestyle as Normal, so to hear how other people react to our culture is pretty interesting to me. So just to hear how some of the things we consider as small things such as food, hygge and even our trustworthiness all of these things are something I never really think about in my day to day life so just to hear how it impacts other people makes me appreciate it even more 😊
"Not a lot of people have cars", you didn't see any other places of Denmark than Copenhagen? There's over 2.6 millions cars in Denmark with a population of 5.8 million people. Almost one car for every other person including kids, teenagers, elderly and so on. That's a pretty significant number. Other than that, you're pretty spot on. Great video. (y)

Thanks for reminding me to get an extra key made. Noticed that you said that we don’t lock our doors. I don’t know anyone in the city I live in who, doesn’t lock their doors. Your pronunciation is amazing. It must be hard to get used to since there’s basically no nasal sounds. Glad you had a nice experience.
Yeah I would never not lock my door at night! During the day: I don't lock my door. At night: always! But I did have to pressure (😆😜) my husband into locking our car when it's parked in our driveway, and the door at night 🙄 Because at his parents house, they didn't always do that 😆
We can learn a lot from you, as people we should always try and dig into a culture before starting to judge and jump to conclusions of other countries, thanks for being so lovely a soul.
Your pronunciation of those Danish words is very good. Well done. The hardest part about our language is pronunciation as we have 9 vowels in Danish: a,e,i,o,u,y,æ,ø,å but according to language experts we have somewhere between 25 and 50 different vowel sounds. English has some of the same. In English there are five vowels: a,e,i,o,u and sometimes y as well. But the language has at least 22 different vowel sounds. Danish also has a lot compound words that cannot be separated because if you do separate them as we do a lot in English, it changes the meaning completely. Compound words in Danish are always written as one word. However, it becomes a bit more tricky when it concerns English words that have wormed their way into the Danish language. Here are a few examples of why compound words in Danish should not be written as two words: lammekoteletter / lamme koteletter. The first one is lamb chops, but the second one actually means that the chops are lame as in not being able to walk or move on their own. mormorboller /mormor boller. The first word refers to old style buns that our grandma’s generation used to make. Divide the two words and you get a rude, slang expression referring to your grandma having intercourse. 😂 Pådkelukket /Påske lukket. The first word means that a place is closed during Easter, the second version refers to Easter itself being closed down. lillefinger/ lille finger. The first word is your pinky finger. The second version just means a tiny finger. Engelsklærer /engelsk lærer. The first one is a teacher who teaches English, the second version is someone who is English and a teacher. Dyrebog / dyre bog. The first one is a book about animals. The second version refers to a book being expensive.
Yeah, our language is very unforgiving tonally. The grammar is easy, but our pronounciation is kinda Klingon/Orcish, lol. Thank you for your feedback and kind words😊
There has always been immigration to Denmark. From the Dutch in the 15th century, to potato Germans in the 17th century, the Huegonot who left France during the 16th-17th hundred. My own Finnish and Swedish family migrated to Denmark back in 18th as well as from Poland between ww2 and ww2. Vietnamese refugees 1970's. Serbs, Turks and other Balkans also in the 1970's. Etc.
Somewhat surprised that you didn’t meant how beautiful the nature is with the country consisting of different islands with all beaches. Being from Skåne I have no problem to admit that I prefer Denmark to the rest of Sweden. But Skåne once referred to as ”the jewel in the Danish crown” before it was lost to Sweden is according to me equally beautiful together with some more shifting landscape. If you still are in Denmark towards Summer 2021. Take the Ferry from Helsingör to Helsingborg and then bike on Kattegattleden along the coast to Båstad. I think even danes who has done that can admit that this part of earlier Denmark but now Sweden is very beautiful. For me the the best thing with Denmark compared with Sweden is the different mentality which according to me is more laid back and liberal. According to me we have some of that mindset in Skåne also compared with other parts of Sweden. Also both the politics and the economy in Denmark has been much more well managed in Denmark compared with Sweden for the last 30-35 years. For instance an average Danish family today has about 1500 EUR more to spend per month than an average Swedish family.
