What a brilliant day you had John it was a pleasure to watch you catch the ide everyone a good stamp you seem to be getting more confident your catch rate is going up every day's a school day especially in fishing well done again m8
Just a good venue my friend, the pond behind me has even bigger stamp ide in it but it was pretty much full on both sides so chose no.3 pond. I caught around 60lb and the peg got better and better late on, literally a fish a minute. Could have topped 100lb if I'd stayed but settled for around 60, enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.👍
Whenever I see this place mentioned, the Animals starts playing in the back of my head, and sometimes some rewriting pops up too, so here we are; There are, some ponds, just north of York, they call the Rising Sun. They've been, the ruin, of many a top kit, and lord , we know, John's is one. 😂🤣😂🤣😂
Just a quick tip if you’re pole is a Diawa tournament then the Preston tops fit perfectly and are stronger and a lot cheaper mate.Yes a nice days fishing
well done just new that top kit was gonna go when you stood up and tried to give it some stick ,same happened to me at poplars on the oaks managed to telescope mine, nice bag there m8
Thanks Tony. I've replaced the section now, but have plenty of spare top kits anyway. Also anaged to get a new no.5 but the no.4s are out of stock, I've got a few so ok for now but will get them pro repaired for spares.
Thanks Stan. I think Ide were first stocked here in Yorkshire around the late 90s early 2000s. The first time I ever caught them was on the River Issjel in Holland and I initially thought they were big roach until I was informed otherwise.
Thanks Ste, it was costly but no point getting angry that would just spoil the day, just had to put it behind me, fortunately I had plenty of spares with me.
Thanks Philip, yes a great day out, as you say breakages are inevitable but it's all replaced now. It always pays to carry a few spares so you can carry on, fortunately I had spare 4s and 5s with me after clumsily putting my foot through them!
Thats a normal day fishing when I get the pole out.Its been a very expensive learning curve since I picked up a pole to start to go match fishing. The bank balance says I should have stayed just chub abd barbel fishing the Thames lol.
It certainly isn't a cheap sport any more. We all have breakages and when they happen, you seem to have a run of them, sometimes you're at fault, other times sh#t just happens. You've just gotta laugh it off and not let it ruin your day. I wish you a breakage free rest of season and beyond🤞
Bust 2 top middy top kits at pool bridge fishery !! was holding them by the puller bung hole as i think you were John just wonder on your thoughts of that.??
Well it was only a match kit rated to 12 elastic (these have no side puller just a puller bung), - I've landed carp to 12lb on those kits before but as the fish was foul hooked I had to try and land it as it had been on for so long. Pulling the elastic to max tension basic allows it no further stretch and it's like running a guitar string through the kit, eventually it will find the point with the least flex and i guess having a bung inside flattens the arc of the carbon and therefore it goes around that point. What amazed me was that I was fishing 0.09 bottom and a size 18 silverfish hook yet they didn't go before the pole - just goes to show what can be landed on light balanced tackle.
It's a Daiwa ZR5, had it 5 years now, been a great pole, so good I picked up a couple of second hand ones for the spares so it lives on. Keepnets are allowed for the silver's but once it warms up then carp will dominate the venue and are only allowed in matches.
Thanks Anthony, hope you're getting a few still. Weather is gonna make it tricky this weekend..1st match back and forecast to be sub zero, about time it warmed up.
Damn unlucky mate but a nice carp to catch. John is a ide a cross between a roach and say a chub ? , I have never heard of an Ide. Nice catch well done.
Thanks Robert. Ide are stocked into a lot of commercial fisheries around here, they feed much more readily in the winter than carp so offer good sport in the colder months. I first caught them on the River Issjel in Holland in the last 90s. They have now escaped into our rivers due to flooding etc but they are their own species and look like a big roach, people often mistaking them for one but the giveaway is that roach have red eyes and Ide have black eyes. Hope this helps.
Joys of carp fishing..........bust gear Nowt worse playing it for all that time and still got plenty of energy, still good net of Ide made up for damage. Well done John
Bloomin mud pigs. Ironic that when you tool up to safeguard against them you don't hook one. It was a great day none the less Mike, thanks for watching pal.
Very rarely, only if the club organises a match there, I wouldn't go for a pleasure day, too far for me to bother when I have the Oaks and Woodlands relatively local.
I've got a zr5 the match kits are terrible I won't put anything higher than a 6 even then you've got to be careful not to put too much pressure on them
To be fair that's the first one that's gone in 5 years, I've never had an issue with them with 8 elastic, had loads of F1's on them but I had little choice other than to max it out and try and land the fish as it was on for 10 minutes, just unfortunate.
Not a fan of fishing with a pole, I will never buy one - for me it removes all skill. But the thing that really turned me off was the way you dropped the carp back in your net after landing it foul hooked. Not good John. Not at all good.
Oh dear, get a life Ryan, the carp was returned safe and sound, I'm not pussy footing round you and your holier than thou attitude, I guess you're perfect. I can't control if it was foul hooked or not and it was hardly dropped. As for skill, well that's your perogative. Feel free to unsubscribe.

Just a quick tip if you’re pole is a Diawa tournament then the Preston tops fit perfectly and are stronger and a lot cheaper mate.Yes a nice days fishing
Thanks Kevin, I'm using the Preston shallow kits, they're a perfect fit.

nice bag of fish john ,bonus carp too . never saw these fish in the early eighties ,stan in sunny california .

An expensive days fishing John, but a rewarding catch at the end of it, well done mate..

@@HOOKEDFishingChannel I don't think there is an angler who's not been through the same scenario John,
Great days fishing John, lovely nets of fish, shame about the top kit but it happens

Proper fishing again John 👌
Thanks Phillip, glad you liked it 👍
Excellent video picture quality is brilliant. Two things which lake were you on and can you use keepnets and if so must you segregate fish
Thanks David, I was on no.3, the ide are bigger in no.2 though but it was very busy. Keepnets allowed for silvers only, no carp in them.

Nice vid mate. Shame about the breakages. What pole was you using. Can you use keepnets all the time at the venue

Brilliant John great catch of baby ide. Ha. Cracking fishing and great venue. 🎣👍
Babies compared to yours mate 🤣. They're bigger in the pond behind me but it was chokka. Thanks for watching Andy. 🎣
Nice one mate shame about tha pole, testing tha stength of tha pole abit there. Its a nice place to tho
Thanks JB, had to give it some stick, it had been on too long. It's not a bad little spot, stuffed with fish.
Wont use puller bungs anymore !! carbon not ment to have holes made in it for the integral strength of the carbon ..
There's no holes in those top kits Dave, just an old style puller bung so the elastic comes out of the end not the side.
The bungs do seam to make a weak point on the pole when ya holding round them, I've learnt that with carp on rivers when they mysteriously turn up.
