Our vet has our dog on eating 3 times a day schedule. Morning, supper time, and a late night meal.
He is over 10 and a half years old and is in good shape. I play ball with him a few times a day and take walks with him.

I consulted my vet a month. Before, I used to feed my buddy, Snoopy, twice a day. Our vet advised me to feed him 3 times daily. Since then, Snoopy is always happy, energetic, and healthy! :)

I feed my dog dry food. She likes to take grains from the bowl and take them to the living room carpet. There she eats slowly and through out the day 🤷🏼♀️

i received a three year old male Chihuahua, that was quite overweight. People said he was a "coby".
I set up a calf feeder with a metal door. (I have other dogs) He became a free feeder and now, after two years is as fit and trim as he should be having lost about two pounds. He takes one piece of dry food at a time, carries it away and then returns. Thus he doesn't gulp his food and over eat.

I've fed my two 9 yr old amstaffs (outdoor dogs) once a day, after we have dinner, since they were 18 months old, with a clicker. They then settle for the night in their double kennel. They've thrived on this routine without weight gain and without disruptions overnight and have plenty of energy the next day.

I’ve heard that it’s not a good idea to just keep their bowl filled. But that’s what I do and don’t seem to have ever had any problems. I fill her bowl in the morning. She eats some right away, maybe about 1/4 of the bowl. A lot of times I have my breakfast at my computer. She gets a mouthful of her food, comes next to me, empties her mouth on the floor, then eats. She eats again when I get home from work and am eating my dinner. Her bowl is close to where I eat so I think she just likes eating “with me”. She is a perfect weight for her breed and size so she seems to control her diet on her own pretty well.

Only reason id say its bad is cause the dog eats when it wants but it doesn't give its stomach time to digest whats already in there so the stomach is constantly workin with no break. It also helps when toilet training as you can near enough guess when the dog will need to go cause it doesnt have access 100% of the time. I always look at their wild cousins. They hunt then eat an dont eat till next time dogs share 98%/99% of the dna with wild dogs. They also dont have access to water at night unless they built they're den next to the river 😂 so mine doesn't ether.

Don't do this--elevated feeding bowls increase the likelihood of developing bloat.

i feed my Yorkie a portion of canned white meat chicken bits once a day, and dry small dog nibblets on the side...his water bowl is always accessable, and he stays slim and trim.

@Roland Dey great question! There is no "perfect" time interval; simply what works for you and your life schedule. I honestly feed my pup breakfast around 7:30a and dinner anytime between 5:30-6:30p depending on what time I get home from work. Does that help?
I give my 14 week old puppy a mix of raw and kibble 3 times a day, all high grade balanced dog food, I also add cooked chicken,potatoes, eggs, rice, honey etc etc occasionally. His coat looks amazing and he’s bulking up well, becoming very muscular.

All depends on food and breed if you took a dog back to its roots it would be close to human consumption back in the day leaner times during winter and food more available during spring and summer

I’ve four months poodle puppy that don’t like to eat dry dog food (any type) or wet dog food, except I added biscuit on it. But within 2-3 times he will became boring and didn’t like to eat those anymore, so I must changed to add another type of biscuit. And he only want to eat those (dog food) if I insist and feed him with hand (and he always pretend to be sleepy at that time). But if I gave him papaya, mango or banana, he will eat those with happy and greedy😅. Because of that I only gave him fruit after he ate dog food. Is anyone here have any suggestion what should I do?

Whinning is normal it's because the dog wants company or misses it's parent's so don't stay away from your dog more that 9 hrs this could lead for the dog to have seperation anxiety etc..

So what I do is give him a chewing bone it's takes time to consume

I feed my dog with love and kisses. No snacks or treats but she gets massages and scratching. She is always by me, we sleep together. When my gf says no doggie in the bed I take her(the dog) and we sleep on the couch.

How often do you recommend to feed a 2 yr old male Westie? I give him 2 meals per day, 4 oz each: mid morning and late evening
Two meals per day (breakfast and dinner) is great! As far as how many ounces, take a peek at your westie from above. If you can see a smaller waist compared to the rib cage, then he is in ideal body shape. If it's a straight line (meaning you can't see a smaller waist), then he is too heavy and you may need to back off the food (or treats) a tiny amount. Hope this helps! ❤
Yeah, feeding 4% body weight In the winter and then taking it down gradually to 3% and then to 2% in the spring and summer. Back up to 3% in the fall and up to 4% again come winter.

I had a Norwegian Elkhound who would carry her dish from the breakfast nook into my Mom's bedroom and eat next to Mom. There she would nibble a few kibbles at a time until she had finished, and begged about half of Mom's dinner, too.
I have an Elkhound mix and they are the greatest dogs! Sounds like your girl is a character like mine. ❤
We have had Elkhounds since one picked my Mom out at a pet shop in 1984. Grey was with us until 1998. Her successor, Moose, was the one who carried her dish. Moose was with us for almost fifteen years at which time we adopted a seven-year-old retired show champion, Aani.
Mom passed about two years later, and Aani developed chronic leukemia, but outlived every death sentence the vets proclaimed, finally succumbing to kidney disease at the age of thirteen.
I now have Aani's great-great grandson, Baldurdash; talk about a character, he never met a stranger, loves everybody, and he has this unique prancing gait, struts his stuff like he knows he's the best, and everyone comments on what a handsome boy he is.
He overlapped Aani's tenure by a little over three years, and he "learned to be my dog" from her.
I think the ancient roots of the breed's association with humans is the secret to their empathy and attachment to us.

Some say dogs should eat every 12 hours or their stomach becomes acidic and they throw up. Others say feeding once a day helps their digestion and immune system.
All we can do is experiment and take notes. Twice a day would give the dog a 2nd meal time to look forward to. But once a day may be better for their health.

My yorky is just like that . if I do give her a bit of nice chicken she expects that every day and do not eat the dog food. I just left her go with not food until she takes the dog food back again .

i feed my dogs this much each both around 40 pound dogs... 2 cups cooked brown rice, 2 cups cooked and raw vegetables like carrots and greens and 2 tablespoons vegetable oil along with 1.2 pound (225 gr) meat, eggs or dairy. With eggs you should crush the shell and include it and cook the whites at least some of the time as raw egg whites can cause vitamin deficiencies. Try legumes too but no onions or salt.

i dont get it, most dog breeds are energetic by nature so its very rare for them to develop too much fat.. so why not just let the dog eat as much as it wants unless you see that they have an appetite issue

Lol you clearly don't have much experience with dogs. There are some dogs that would literally eat themselves to death in one meal and lots of other ones that will constantly over eat to the point that they are extremely overweight.
