Comment is valid and just means that when you're a kid the holidays are often about candy (Advent calendars almost always the punchline there's a small chocolate for each window each day) This is a seasonal thing which is a little bit more like news or fancier entertainment like going to the movies and you could honestly make a pretty valid date night out of watching a favorite UA-cam channel with an SO. "For the whole family" where you a meaningful story + you get something simple and sensory would more like the candles for the 4 Sundays of Advent or the candelabra for Hannukah. Calendars, specifically, as one of the more minor traditions for the season, rank higher than Count Chocula but a lot lower than something involving the best Carols. Advent is basically my favorite season liturgically but I totally get what the person means by no matter what your beliefs the way you end up celebrating and feeling the season just plain changes with age. Older you get the more likely you are to go with trying to find a movie that tells a story. You might loop all the way back around to trying to find a really good church service with the good music. Honestly any kind of box of chocolates is just not going to be as impressive when you're older. Same way a bit more secular source of candy is a gingerbread house. The candy isn't as magical 20 years later when adults in the 1940s didn't need the internet they still had the Sears Catalogue to get any chocolate they wanted basically any time. Harry and David & Swiss Colony are nice but I'm 35 and I just feel different about the food than I did as a kid. Adulthood basically spoils the entire food world. And honestly Advent calendars usually it's always little squares of chocolate or a small toy for each day pitched for the children in the family. Not bad. Just is what it is. I got a baby nephew. He's too young this year but there will be a solid 10 years in 5 years he'll love all the holiday stuff designed for kids. It's okay to say some stuff is for kids. It's usually the For Kids stuff that made childhood Special. The Season has different interaction points for all age groups. I think the most hardcore solid for all ages happens to be the music.
12 Days of Christmas: okay that's reasonably legit for some moods. Kind of a 1600s German snowy Christmastown vibe. O Come O Come Emmanuel? Like 12 Days, only better, more Ancient feeling. Maybe it was written later, I dont know, it might have been designed for pipe organ that was a more advanced technology. But it's a way stronger carol than 12 Days and is where I'd go as an Adult for a Countdown the Days feeling, honestly not the chocolates calendars. Well that's how I feel about it. The idea of counting days is something you can base traditions for all kinds of audiences on, sure. I just think that a carol like O Come O Come Emmanuel saw coming that people would feel the lesser celebrations were growing pale and less magical with age when you get just older and sadder. And if you add a really strong music line that usually fixes the problem for adults and they often feel magic again if you throw enough Trombone or French horn at something. How much trombone can a cardboard calendar get? Only if it was hand made by Little Orphan Annie and Tiny Tim put together maybe. Then it's got the magic of being made *by* the children not just for the children and that's obviously more special of course. That's the rules. Idkn. Well I like to overthink things and try to understand every side but the reason I still need the music is because I don't really know and just wish I did. The music knows. Or doesn't need to know. Or something.

Something to note about the abilities in the Kabu fight: AI trainers can't see abilities until they are proced. You can fix this really easily by putting a cheap pop filter on your mic and also putting what's called a "high pass filter" (usually built into any EQ) on your vocal track. High pass at 100 Hz and it'll cut out that low stuff without affecting how your voice sounds. Excited for another month of Jrose!

I'd be interested to see Jrose play all sorts of games with his entertaining commentary and insight That being said I haven't played the new Pokemon games so I'm lost in all this new content
This challenge was absolutely insane beating this game with just 1st stage bug types is beyond crazy but adding level caps and no items is absolute insanity if you can beat this challenge in Sword it is worth trying in S/V or X/Y it would be insane to see you do this in S/V I would definitely enjoy watching that I know the challenge runs normally end at the champion but seeing this done all the way up to Kieran would be amazing I believe in you even if you do use over levelling and items it would still be absolutely insane! I really enjoyed this video a lot and cannot wait to see what the rest of December holds.
4:33 I wouldn't say the game doesn't really have cities and towns, so much as rather the distinct cities, towns and villages just have more realistic names in this game - so the final big city is called "Wyndon" instead of "Wyndon City" in the same way it's called "London" and not "London City" I'm still early in the video but loving this challenge so far and excited to see what you do throughout 😊
Not using the neutral Flash Fire boosted Flame Lash vs Duraladon is absolutely wild, but you won anyway so it doesn't really matter lol. I also think it's pretty impressive that you didn't use Protect a single time (Even if it wouldn't prevent all the damage) against Dynamax mons.
Came to say the same thing, I was cringing so more with each press of lunge lol. Jrose had just said earlier in the video that Duraludon is dragon/steel, so I assume in talking with chat but had a brain fart.
Raihan’s 2nd battle team is really weirdly constructed in that he has 4 different weather setters and will send out his Goodra (a rain setter) before then sending out Turtonator to bring back the sun.
I kind of feel like sw/sh’s difficulty was more due to game freak going towards making it easier to raise a competitive team in game. Scarlet and violet expanded on it, but I appreciated that about these games
Just wanted to say thank you Jrose. December is the busiest month of the year at my work--I have to do lots of overtime. But the Month of Jrose genuinely gets me through the month. I love having something to look forward to listening to every day at work!
5:38 Played through Sword/Shield a couple of times and I NEVER knew about this interaction. Honestly a pretty dope side effect of an ability, really cool. Also hoping and praying for the Attack-Forme Deoxys solo run this Month of JRose. Been waiting for this like half the year, so glad it's back again. We are SO fuckin' back
I'm aware most of my audience hates these games and didn't keep up with them. I do enjoy them, and for the 66% (I tend to lose 1/3 of my regular viewers when I go back Gen 3/4), I wanna make these videos as accessible as possible.
I'd like to think Jrose maintained eye contact with Hop during that entire final battle, just to drive home the shame. Hop is a terrible friend & rival and he needs to see it. :D I'm really pleased to see this is possible, and your strategies are very clever. I knew Sword&Shield was weirdly easy (and the plot doesn't make much sense to boot) until that final battle, but this is a whole new degree of flexing. Congratulations and well-done!
Another fun fact about Hop: he is the _only_ rival in the entire series to outright *bench* a member of his team (and bring it back later), which represents his self-doubt and trying to find any way possible to beat you.
@@raineob4996 I did like that Hop grows up a bit and gets some actual resolution during the postgame. He is such a pain until that point (in my first playthrough I backed him up and wanted to help him, only to realize he was terminally dumb). But in the post game, after losing even with a genuinely strong team, he decides he doesn't need to beat you to feel good about himself. He can forge his own path. Winning isn't everything. That's excellent. I just would have preferred that he did this in the main game, instead of pushing the payoff to later. He probably gets his dumb from Leon (who he spends the game worshipping), who has a genuinely good team but is also kinda annoying to be around. Hop is young and the dumb is kinda understandable, but Leon needed to retire as champ a long time ago. :D
I've played Sword as first Pokemon game after Silver in over 20 years with a single Psyduck (had to shell out 30 bucks for the DLC just to get it). Yes you can. :D
Fucking finally someone else said it! I've been saying for a while the modern exp share does not make the games easier it makes them faster cutting out time you would have wasted grinding!
It's so cool seeing you do challenge runs in modern pokemon games! I hope to see more of that : ) Also, have you ever considered running Pokemon Coliseum with just Umbreon and Espeon? It would be interesting and fun! Probably! :D
I’ve got to say, it’s really cool seeing team challenge runs like this! I love the solo runs, but this makes for such a different kind of unique challenge!
This is easily my favorite UA-cam month of the year and it is solely because of the Jrose month of videos. Keep it up! Does he have a Patreon? I know I could look it up but I thought it might cause others to think about joining if I ask here. Haha
omg dude another month of jrose is gonna make me so happy you're one of the few creators i seriously try to make sure i at least like the video on i'll try to comment on every video this month from now on to help boost your yt stats thank you for this bro you are the best
Playthroughs with unevolved Pokemon are really fun. I recently did a playthrough of Ultra Moon with an unevolved team of Popplio, Magnemite, Cutiefly, Gastly, Crabrawler, and Mudbray, and I had to use a lot of cool strategies to beat some of the bosses.
I hope Jrose knows about ETU's run. When I saw the vid title I immediately thought "did Jrose nick this idea from ETU??" That run ETU did was great and one of my favorite Pokemon challenges ever to watch, I still go back to it now and then. Iguatzu saving the day was legendary.
I rarely comment on anything anymore (even though I've watched every one of your videos lol) but this video was so fun I honestly had to. Really great job on this, such a fun and unique challenge with great strategies throughout. It's actually made me want to play Sword for the first time since I got it years ago.
Mono-Bug was the first one I did in SwSh, and it was fun. I will say, having played both XY and SwSh, XY is significantly easier even when under leveled.
I think XY is only easier if you leave Exp share turned on, I did a “challenge” run on XY with Exp share turned off from the start and it was a lot more difficult. Albeit I was 10 levels below the Elite 4’s Pokémon by the end. I’d only consider SWSH easier because they force you to have Exp share on, and Dynamax is WAY more unbalanced for the player than Mega Pokémon were in XY
Dang, this was definitely quite the run, probably one of my favorites. The resource availability in Sword and Shield really is second to none and it really makes me wish the game was harder because if it was it would be a great game to show off the full potential of so many Pokemon. Been thinking about doing a small movepool run of gen 8 since Magikarp gets Hydro Pump this gen and seeing how well this went, I can't wait to get the team I'm planning on using together. A big one I'm planning on using is Snom. Its movepool may be rough, but getting access to that hidden ability before the post game through the DLC is real nice. That Leon fight really is gonna be quite the challenge
Beautiful thumbnail! Personally I always prefer your videos with the JRose banner. Your Abra video missing it just feels odd to me. It's like the "Hey everyone, how's it going" - a staple. Thabks for explaining all the dynamic/g-max stuff too!!
Nine and a half minutes in and you're giving Dewpider the love he deserves, of all the Bug types out there, Araquanid holds a spot in my heart. Water Bubble Liquidation was too good to pass up.
And you really salted the wound on Raihan in the championship, Lunge wasn't very effective against Duraladon, but he's part Steel, making Lash Out neutral 😂
On the AI quirk where the opponent didn’t know your abilities, the computer assumes no ability until the ability is activated. So basically, every battle, the computer starts with no knowledge of your team
Everyone has already explained how trainer ai works so I will just skip that and say that npcs refusal to switch out pokemon is so stupid, its at its worst in these games but even in earlier games it was so unlikely for them to switch out at all
I actually did this same challenge back in 2020, and what I found was Dwebble was my team's powerhouse. Sturdy + White Herb + Shell Smash meant it was very easy to setup and sweep most teams. Leon took a few tries since it required his Aegislash to cooperate but it was a fun challenge overall. A similar one I did last year was first form dark types in Violet. Eri and the final boss are terrifying in that game.
The Month of Jrose is definitely up to a great start! I never thought of a Bug-only (let alone first stage only) run in SwSh, but I thought about doing it in SV since you have such great variety early on with the DLC. I do find it a bit funny though that you complain about the number of Hop battles. I had a quick look and the tournament battle is the 8th battle against Hop, while the gen 1 Champion fight is the 7th or 8th fight against the rival. Though there are a couple of additional double battles with Hop, so it might feel like you're fighting him more often.
If only I'd known about that Vulpix trick ~yesterday~ when I ran from 73 battles before encountering Sizzlipede. Sword has grown on me a lot, I didn't like it when it was first released. It has lots of interesting features and the variety of bugs & dragons is pretty cool.
Wanted to comment today and say that visual glitch I mentioned yesterday is mostly gone, but does show up in this video from about 56:45 to 57:00. You can see how the text warps in and out, especially during the slow-mo, and how the text boxes of SwSh slide left to right, but here they sort of fade in and out. Hope this helps, I enjoyed the video.

4:33 I wouldn't say the game doesn't really have cities and towns, so much as rather the distinct cities, towns and villages just have more realistic names in this game - so the final big city is called "Wyndon" instead of "Wyndon City" in the same way it's called "London" and not "London City"
I'm still early in the video but loving this challenge so far and excited to see what you do throughout 😊
Correction: Nincada is older than Skorupi, it's from Gen 3
I’m honestly impressed how much you’ve researched Sw/Sh when it’s not even your game!
17:05 and Nincada took that personally
Just wanted to say thank you Jrose. December is the busiest month of the year at my work--I have to do lots of overtime. But the Month of Jrose genuinely gets me through the month. I love having something to look forward to listening to every day at work!
5:38
Played through Sword/Shield a couple of times and I NEVER knew about this interaction. Honestly a pretty dope side effect of an ability, really cool.
Also hoping and praying for the Attack-Forme Deoxys solo run this Month of JRose. Been waiting for this like half the year, so glad it's back again. We are SO fuckin' back
I love how jrose has to explain when these pokemon were introduced to the series as us gen 1ners have no clue 😂😂
Hey some of us played gen 2 as well!
@@Ivell123all part of the jrose gen1 family
I'm aware most of my audience hates these games and didn't keep up with them. I do enjoy them, and for the 66% (I tend to lose 1/3 of my regular viewers when I go back Gen 3/4), I wanna make these videos as accessible as possible.
I enjoy watching them just never played those gens
@@Jrose11 thanks for making the video accessible for those who don’t hold any affinity to the later generations! Love your content!
I remember doing a bug only Shield playthrough, kinda nostalgic.
I'd like to think Jrose maintained eye contact with Hop during that entire final battle, just to drive home the shame. Hop is a terrible friend & rival and he needs to see it. :D
I'm really pleased to see this is possible, and your strategies are very clever.
This was honestly a very fun video! I really like seeing the mischief Jrose can get up to with modern Pokémon mechanics. It's a fun change of pace!
Fucking finally someone else said it! I've been saying for a while the modern exp share does not make the games easier it makes them faster cutting out time you would have wasted grinding!
I love the strategizing! Please continue with more strategy/creativity-focused challenges!
not-so-fun fact: despite it making complete sense to pronounce dewpider as dew-pider, the official pronunciation actually rhymes with Jupiter.
What a great run, the best I've seen from Jrose in a while, not from lack of quality or anything I just really enjoyed this video.
The wild area almost ruined that game for me. Eventually, I had to just pretend it didn't exist to stay sane
10:26 Just gave me a flashback to when I first found your channel, how to find lightning rod goldeen in Sun/Moon, holy what a throwback
It's so cool seeing you do challenge runs in modern pokemon games! I hope to see more of that : )
Also, have you ever considered running Pokemon Coliseum with just Umbreon and Espeon? It would be interesting and fun! Probably! :D
34:50 ah yes, my favorite fire/rock type pokemon, Gigalith.
I’ve got to say, it’s really cool seeing team challenge runs like this! I love the solo runs, but this makes for such a different kind of unique challenge!
The creativity in your strategies is through the roof dude, excellent stuff.
This is easily my favorite UA-cam month of the year and it is solely because of the Jrose month of videos. Keep it up! Does he have a Patreon? I know I could look it up but I thought it might cause others to think about joining if I ask here. Haha
Dewpider is a beast. I love that little bugger.
Unevolved baby bugs team OP? :D
I love Sizzlipede, happy to see it shine! Really enjoy seeing your challenges in modern games from time to time. What a great start to the month! ❤
omg dude another month of jrose is gonna make me so happy you're one of the few creators i seriously try to make sure i at least like the video on i'll try to comment on every video this month from now on to help boost your yt stats thank you for this bro you are the best
Channeling your inner bug catcher?
Great job Jrose, joltik was amazing along with the other bugs on your team and keep up the amazing work
Playthroughs with unevolved Pokemon are really fun. I recently did a playthrough of Ultra Moon with an unevolved team of Popplio, Magnemite, Cutiefly, Gastly, Crabrawler, and Mudbray, and I had to use a lot of cool strategies to beat some of the bosses.
Ah yes, I am also a fan of Enter The Unown’s earlier works. Nice that you’re trying to pick up on their legacy.
Definitely going to rewatch ETU's SwSh Bug video after this
Their Worst First Bug videos are genuinely some of my favorite youtube videos
I hope Jrose knows about ETU's run. When I saw the vid title I immediately thought "did Jrose nick this idea from ETU??" That run ETU did was great and one of my favorite Pokemon challenges ever to watch, I still go back to it now and then. Iguatzu saving the day was legendary.
I rarely comment on anything anymore (even though I've watched every one of your videos lol) but this video was so fun I honestly had to. Really great job on this, such a fun and unique challenge with great strategies throughout. It's actually made me want to play Sword for the first time since I got it years ago.
WE EATIN THIS MONTH. Thanks Jrose for all you do - you're the man!
YAY! a video thats over an hour! been waiting for this
Mono-Bug was the first one I did in SwSh, and it was fun.
I will say, having played both XY and SwSh, XY is significantly easier even when under leveled.
(obviously going out of your way to grind for TRs in the wild area makes the game easier, but that's no different than grinding for levels imo)
I love the kalos region but x and y's ridiculously easy campaign and almost non existent post game kills the game for me :/
@@pass_same, it's my favorite region packed with nostalgia but it's so easy, even for a pokemon game
"centipede made of fire and dreams" hell yeah he is
It's Day 2 of JRose month and the challenges are already coming out hot as a Heatran. AWH YEAH.
Man, I loved Sword. I should go back and play through it again one of these days.
Wow, this was a good one. More this gen videos please 👍
Great job beating the challenge, also good job dwebble on the clutch
1:08:30 he's built for Busta Rhymes! 😂
holy moly, December is gonna be SO good if we get a month of Jrose content
I can’t believe how clutch getting Gym Leader Opal’s questions correct finally was for once 😂
Nincada and Wimpod are the GOATs in this sort of challenge, iykyk
This man is the goat. Insane. Btw what happened to Eternatus?
Eternamax isn’t really a challenge as you can just let the doggos hard carry you through the fight.
Aw hell yeah Joltik in the thumbnail
Im not one to complain, but joltik being level 27 for nessa was quite a take on the overlevelling stuff
Your opinion on exp share is such a breath of fresh air.
Lowering grinding time is bae
Excited to see Joltik getting some love! Excellent as always Jrose!!! 💛💙
35:03 - One could argue, that this is the definition of a traditional gym instead. But I guess you calculated that comment to appear :)
I’ve never played these games, this’ll be a fun one
34:50 Gigalith, eh?😂 Love you Jrose
1:07:02 Leon: Aiming for super effective hits is a surefire way to claim victory!
Cutiefly: (throws Choice Scarf)
Sizzlipede: Are you sure about that?
Bug catcher beating the league.
I was just looking for the second instalment of the Month of Jrose.
Month of JRose starts off proving how much grinding he’s been doing and what an absolute mad lad he’s been behind the scenes.
Lets go! Cutiefly carry
Bro, always coming in clutch. Thank you, jrose
Man sword and shield stink. Would you do any challenges in Sun and Moon?
Hoenn is peak pokemon (my opinion only) - such a classic game
9:00 very important question: Does Shedinja count as a 1st form pokemon?
Ah golly, you have no idea how much i appreciate the Month of JRose as a retail worker sick of christmas music.
Why not go for Fire Lash against Duraludon? It’s neutral
Month of JRose and Scott’s Thoughts, is a daily present.
Though there are a couple of additional double battles with Hop, so it might feel like you're fighting him more often.
yeah i like sword and shield in general but i despise dynamax because it made many interesting battles a joke.
If only I'd known about that Vulpix trick ~yesterday~ when I ran from 73 battles before encountering Sizzlipede. Sword has grown on me a lot, I didn't like it when it was first released. It has lots of interesting features and the variety of bugs & dragons is pretty cool.
Month of Jrose is a marthon inside of a marathon while he is doing a marathon.
i love doing a bug only run in every game ive played always been my favorite type to do it with
Wow Pokemon jumped the shark... what the heck happened? Dang... Sword and Shield? What? in the world is this? dang i am old.
SwSh is what happens when Game Freak decides to be fucking lazy and cut corners...
He said he didn’t think he’d do another months of Jrose!!! But Christmas is coming early!!!!
