I grew up in the time when we took polio vaccines in sugar cubes at elementary school. Seeing people hobbling around with crutches - the people who didn't have access to a vaccine - should make everyone a believer. I am so thankful for vaccines. Any risk is far outweighed by the benefits. Thanks for this episode! Really good information.
Another intelligent, informative discussion about an important subject. In this day and age I find it mind-blowing that a large segment of the population in the U.S. has developed an anti-vaccine posture, almost as a matter of pride and defiance. Count me among the strong proponents of vaccines (and science!). Thank you, docs.
I was born in the 1960s when polio was still around - my best friend's brother caught it. Thankfully he wasn't completely paralysed, but he walked with a limp all his life. Further back in time, my mother's half sister died from tetanus aged 13 years of age after a simple cut to her hand got infected. These risks are easy to forget, but they are still real. My generation was lucky in having access to many vaccines that helped reduce our vulnerability to infections that previously blighted (if not curtailed) people's lives. This was such an important issue to understand, I listened to your video twice. Thank you for making it so easy to comprehend 🙏

Speaking only of the Flu Shot, Am I correct that the current years vaccine composition is a guess as to what strain will be common that year? Secondly, if I skip a year, will I get that years vaccine included in the next years vaccine? i.e. are the vaccines a cumulative cocktail?
They will tell you how many strains are included, but they use terms with which you may not be familiar. This year's vaccine is "trivalent" - tri meaning three, though often the shots are "quadrivalent" - quad meaning four. In 2024-2025, included are Influenza A (H1N1), Influenza A (H3N2), and Influenza B/ Victoria. The strain Influenza B/Yamagata is not included because it seems to have disappeared during Covid.
What a wonderful presentation! I grew up with that little mark on my arm that reminded me of the poleo vaccination. For more than a decade, I got the flu every odd year. Then I started getting it every year. But I was also working in a building with lots of people and every time someone got sick, it was passed around to everyone else. Luckily I finally got to retire and I don't get sick as often. I got a flu shot the last time I saw my doctor. I'm also not stuck in an office with a couple of dozen other people who get sick a lot. I haven't gotten a pneumonia shot yet. I also haven't been close to having pneumonia. It's amazing how vaccines were created! To introduce something into your body and be able to build up a residence. I remember watching the movie "Outbreak" many years ago. And looking for that monkey that started it, who could provide the cure. Hollywood has given us every possible scenario of annihilation of every human being! Maybe they were just warning us about COVID or trying to make a buck. I just wish they would stop with the zombies, how do you get rid of the walking dead!😱 But I digress, I watched Christmas movies for two months so I wouldn't think about zombies. There's no vaccine to prevent them. I appreciate the vaccines we have! And I appreciate this great explanation!
This is not a comment that is nasty. Just my experience. 😊I’m waiting for tax refund in March to get my RSV vaccine. At present time, my green Shield plan doesn’t cover it at all, so cost is $350! Insane! With having asthma and Emphysema, it’s extremely important to get this vaccine. My friend got hers for around $60 as her husband’s extended health covers most of it now. Pharmacists have been commenting that Green Shield is about the worst company for coverage. When I was still able to work, extended health through blue cross had $85 annual deductible for prescriptions. Retire and you get switched over to Green Shield and deductible jumps up to $250! Insane! Earn much less and get way worse coverage after retirement. Thanks gents for informative video. 😊❤️🇨🇦
I have so many allergies & intolerance to so many meds (anaphylaxis and other allergies) that I fear getting vaccinated. Oh and every single time I get the flu shot I get the flu 2 weeks later. The pneumonia vaccine hasn’t helped me (I’ve had it over 2 years, but out of 24 months I’ve had it 17 times or so and COVID 5 times. The pulmonary doctor wanted me to go to an infectious disease doctor and they turned me down. He sent another referral and they turned it down. They said it was a pulmonary doctor job to find out what the underlying cause was. But the ER doctor and urgent care doctor and my pulmonary doctor said I might have to go out of town to find a infectious disease doctor that will take me because there’s so many tests they can run.
The flu shot is to reduce the severity when you catch flu not stop you from catching it in the first place, that's covered in this video. Regarding allergies and intolerances maybe consult your doctor instead of ruling out every single vaccine?
I look at it this way. If your immune system is as bad as you describe, you likely would not be here writing the comment if you had not had the vaccines.
The flu vaccine takes 2 weeks to become effective. Are you actually testing positive for the flu? I’d recommend that you follow your pulmonologist’s recommendations. The pneumonia vaccine doesn’t prevent all types of pneumonia. It sounds as if you might have a pulmonary condition, such as bronchiectasis if you are getting sick so frequently.
As far as my medicine allergies, most of them I had happen while in the hospital for stays & surgeries and also the ER. On a side note: Not long ago, I was in the ER and I told the ER doctor I was allergic to the nausea med he wanted to give me. He said, “hmmm” and told me he was going to try it anyway. They gave me the shot and right after I was out the door to the CT scan. My throat felt like it was closing & I couldn’t swallow well. I started getting big welts on my body. They took me fast to my room and gave me something to reverse the reaction.
Covid Booster after one month I got shingle And I heard that lot of people got stoke too Now I am scare of vaccine But I still believe in vaccine but without well study

In the US vaccines are generally given during well baby visits. We have a lot of visits that first year. Many pediatricians look closely at the moms and dads in those first visits before it's a baby sitter to see if there is any postpartum depression. Or do the vaccines impact their immune systems negatively? We are the most heavily vaxxed country. Is it a coincidence that we are also the sickest in terms of chronic disease?

What's usually left out of the story is that little Jimmy then had to live with refrigerator magnets stuck to the injection site on his arm - all because Dr Jenner worked for Big Cow.
Haha - yes, I went there.

Oh man
@@TalkingWithDocs It's a joke...
I haven't had a vax since I was 6 years old. I'm 68 now. I've never had the flu or flu vax.
I had all the childhood illnesses and survived with a Bicuspid Aortic Valve.
My body has no need for mRNA for any reason.
It's a hard pass for me.
This video wasn’t about mRNA. Maybe watch again. But glad you are ok
You probably could not write a one page description of what RNA is. And it's best not to have illnesses, sometimes the consequences are damaging or worse. Don't make polio great again. Of the million and a half who died of Covid in the USA, nearly all were unvaccinated.
Good for you. Our bodies. Our choice.
@@annalane5430 Make Polio Great Again. Funny how so many refusers of immunization still show up at the hospital when their choice causes them not to breathe properly.
I do not understand how your comment currently has 20 likes, as it was obvious before I looked at your channel that you were an anti-vaxxer. After looking, it got worse, you're science illiterate, so much science denial it made my head spin, and then I came upon flat earth nonsense, you're right out to lunch!
You don't speak about the HUGE difference between making "natural" vaccines and mRNA-vaccines? The test-procedures for mRNA-vaccines who were not respected? Is this video paid by Bill Gates?
Speaking only of the Flu Shot, Am I correct that the current years vaccine composition is a guess as to what strain will be common that year? Secondly, if I skip a year, will I get that years vaccine included in the next years vaccine? i.e. are the vaccines a cumulative cocktail?
They made a huge mistake 2024 flu vaccine. Sooooo many vaccinated people came down with Flu type A. Pretty disappointing.
So it is an educated guess. But multiple strains. And no not cumulative

Yup
I just wish they would stop with the zombies, how do you get rid of the walking dead!😱
But I digress, I watched Christmas movies for two months so I wouldn't think about zombies.
I'm sorry for your experience. It seems almost criminal that people can afford preventative treatment!

Any long term side effects, especially from mRNA vaccine?
Lot's
It depends on the person.@@foxiedogitchypaws7141
"Long-term" is kind of vague for a vaccine that new.
@@disqusrubbish5467 Not true. It has been researched for about 20 years. No issues so far.
Old age.
@@redhen689 They always tell me it is a different strain of flu than what the vaccine is for.
They took me fast to my room and gave me something to reverse the reaction.
get your boosters everyone
No thank you.
It’s a good idea for some of the vaccines for sure
You can’t inject health
No. But you can inject to prevent polio. You can’t healthy eat or exercise your way out of polio.
Covid Booster after one month I got shingle
And I heard that lot of people got stoke too
Now I am scare of vaccine
But I still believe in vaccine but without well study

So most vaccinations are given to babys and children. Without these protocols, only about 1/3 of pediatricians would be at work
We would say most vaccines aren’t given by paediatricians. Not in Canada anyway
The docs are right. We get them at pharmacies, health clinics, doctors offices but we don’t waste specialists’ time with simple procedures like this…in Canada.
@@TalkingWithDocs I'm assuming they meant that there would be fewer pediatricians because there would be fewer children.
I'm in favor of giving less work to pediatricians. If kids get sick less, that's great.
In the US vaccines are generally given during well baby visits. We have a lot of visits that first year. Many pediatricians look closely at the moms and dads in those first visits before it's a baby sitter to see if there is any postpartum depression. They check for the first year, but often see nannies after parents have gone back to work. It's hard when parents have babies in day care and have to take off work for appts.
with one exception, the shingles vaccine, Ive never had a reaction . Does that mean its not as effective for me?
Can you do a vid on mouthwashes please Docs!? I have heard so much about heart health and mouth health, and also the relationship to gut health.
