Just for future reference, filler mixed on cardboard isn’t the best idea as the resins get absorbed into the cardboard and don’t get mixed into the filler with the hardener. You’ll get a brittle mixture and like someone else mentioned you didn’t “tooth” the tank, it’s smooth so there’s nothing to for the filler to grab onto, most likely you’ll get cracks between the metal/powder coat and the filler in about a year... best way to mix small amount of filler I found is to use 2 metal scrapers 1 slightly bigger as the mixing board... it’s just much cleaner. Oh and you need a dust mask... the filler is not fun for your lungs...
No keying the prep is worrying me it's a lot of work but I d redo it just for peace of mind the bike will vibrate a lot even with rubber mount plus the state of the roads you know, I d also would have had a go with some bent rods or something to get inside the tank and push back the dents apply some gentle heat to make your life easier ...just to reduce the amount of filler less is more!!! but with the lining done it s kind off too late. keep up the good work👍i like where its going these are pointers to help you get better. Sorry if I sound patronising I just want to help
Jish, glad that you are feeling better. I think that your color scheme is going to be great....have to say that I kind of like it like this too, even though its light gray. Looking forward to what you choose. Always happy to see you on our screens!
Hi Jish, have i nice new year. I believe to paint the tank with the gold color taking an idea from front absorbers (triumph). I think it is the best combination. For the right que now. it is firstly two or three primer coatings (sanding between them), after 3 or 4 layers of painting (p2000 sanding between them) and finally 3 or 4 clear coatings (p5000 between them. Lasltly 3 layers of shining and i waxing (p5000 or more between them ), and many hours of work. The result is absolute and cool enough. My objection was with the dent repairs. You had the option to make repairs without so much paste on the reservoir. I did the same repair using levers from the petrol opening to repair the curves and the anomalies. (forgive my poor english). Bye and have a good continuing
Should do a JPS Lotus homage (dark green/almost black with gold graphics). I’ve got some Ekhart gold glass flakes that look amazing when sprayed in a clear binder as a graphic 👌🏻
Metallic black with gold pinstriping usually looks very nice and elegant. For example you could follow some of the tank lines with gold and also add it in the cowl, so that it looks coherent.
Crystal white tank with a curved double pinstripe of black and gold that follows the mid curve essentially under the Yamaha badge backwards tapering off, in my humble opinion 🙏🏻👍🏻🙌🏻😉
Finally a new vid !!!! Was literally checkin every day ! Stay healthy mate !! Recommendation: Paint the bottom line whjere the tank is running down black and the top gunmetal grey ! golden pinstripes sounds good. Ill try hookin you up with some scetches
It already looks good in white. Keeps to the 80s theme that your after. Maybe a white tank and cowl with blue yamaha badges and maybe even a blue stripe running down and with gold accents to follow the theme of the bike so far.
Really coming along well. Black with a really thin gold pinstripe running next to the yamaha badge on either side or somehow accentuating it would look cool. Or maybe a single central gold stripe down the middle of the tank but that could look a little louder. I haven't got any Photoshop skills though 😅
Personally I reckon a gloss artic white tank and cowl, then a subtle, pin stripe thin gold raving strips down the middle, but slightly off centre. And then write "Jish" in fancy Kettering next to the stripe on the cowl. Either way it's coming on beautifully
Looking like it's all coming together bro, look up a guy named Mackie Bass at Cambridge Pin striping, he's done some gold leaf work on bikes that looks amazing, a "co=lab" if you will. Glad you're feeling topped off, take care and keep up the good work. Btw, if you need more wall art, let me know.
Do it dark green/purple so it looks black at night and dark metallic green/purple also thr gold will go with them so it'll be a win win situation but i like your idea too , all the best mate no Matt what it'll come out great ✌✌
Hey Jish. I have been binging your XJ videos and it looks slick, looking forward to see the final build. But, dear Lord, less talk and more building. I was fast forwarding more and more the further I got. And it’s way more you talking to camera than actual building. Perhaps use a text on screen for a few seconds instead? Other than that, nothing but respect for your work.

Filler without sanding the tank at all? Let's see how long that lasts.
Lol yea that's never gonna hold ....
what I don't understand is why bondo the tank after powder coating
That doppel light looks amazing ! A like it a lot

I think maybe metallic/silver tank and cowl with black and gold accents would look really good, regardless bike is turning out a beauty!!

I love the paint idea you have, it would look so classy and beautiful

Black at the front of tank at the fat bit gray metallic in the knee area with a burnt copper pinstripe to enhance the tank change.
If you look up my Instagram page cushtituning i done something similar to my cb cafe but I have black silver and white
Dark grey with subtle gold flake and black pinstripe 😎

Red and gold pinstripe would be super!
I would try a yellow with black and white blocking with a retro twist!
Going to look awesome 🔥
check out the design on 80s windsurfing sails. that would be epic.
Agora tá com cara de um neo cafe racer raiz. 😎🤜🏼🤛
Lokking forward to see some colors ✌️🧡
Black with gold inlay on tank
You should do the original xj decals but with the colors you want, keep a part of that bikes history
Good work 👍👍

Do it dark green/purple so it looks black at night and dark metallic green/purple also thr gold will go with them so it'll be a win win situation but i like your idea too , all the best mate no Matt what it'll come out great ✌✌

deep candy apple red .....
Mate, you've started with overexposed image
Gasped when you used filler to fix the tank... love your designs and videos but feel like you skimped a bit on the tank.
90% blablablabla, 10% content, your videos are soooo cool, that's great!
but you talk soooooooooo much
