    Much respect to all the art students out there learning all these challenging processes. Intaglio and etching are skilled crafts all on their own that take years to master! This continues to be one of our favorite channels. We can't wait to see what's next!

    im glad theres hope for artists still. some worry about ai art taking over, but i dont care for it. i love AI art too, but theres a tool and theres a craft. im sure people will still want genuine hand made art even in a world of AI made art. either some big artists will make a propaganda campaign and say that ai art is the knock off alternative and people will begin praising real art, or we stay in our own lanes, ai being commercially used, or exclusively internal to garner a design process, and artists honing their skills maybe even using the ai art as inspiration for their own work, for it to be sold and shown to the world

    • @sunnykabocha

    • @Van-Leo
      @Van-Leo Рік тому +3

      @@sunnykabocha well who's going to profit from it?! Ai won't keep to a specific style unless you invest a lot of time and money into it, and the only people willing to do that are artists using it as a tool, so it's more likely knockoffs or startups will just use it as an easy graphic design maker and lower the barrier of entry to professional looking design. No motif, no commonality, just random ads or cheap products that already exist on Amazon and wish. No one will remember the random guy who sold 3 mugs, but the guy who put hours of work into a piece only to put it on a mug as merch will have plenty of fans! They will remember.

    I loved this vlog and I totally understand your struggles regarding etching. I have a tip for you, that I learned from my teachers. When you are wiping the etching plate, try to press the cloth down and then do a circle movement. This way, the cloth will absorb the ink faster and it will also clean the plate better. Personally, I really enjoyed dry point etching, it was fun

    • @sunnykabocha
      @sunnykabocha  Рік тому

      thank you! but sometimes, if i wipe too much, my lines go faint 🙁

    • @221b-Maker-Street
      @221b-Maker-Street Рік тому

      @@sunnykabocha Oh, that's frustrating! @AriaArts gives a good tip here though, as this isn't necessarily about greater pressure, but more consistent, even buffing. Creating a round floomfy little buffing pad - like a slightly flattened oil painters _mahl_ - and buffing in repeated light circular motions lifts the excess without destroying your painstakingly inked lines. 😫 It's that, or make your lines deeper, I'm afraid - all that hard work can be soul-destroying sometimes, can't it?
      Props to you, btw - doing a foundation course is quite the undertaking! When you're exposed to new techniques almost daily, it difficult not to feel like a new-born foal at times, still tottering about a little on legs that don't quite hold your weight yet. Thanks for letting us learn alongside you. Oh, and welcome to the UK!

    Hi, last semester I did etching at art school in italy, what we would do is wetting the paper the day prior the printing then sealing it in a plastic bag (the ones used for clothing), we would remove most of the ink with the "spatula" so it's easier to use the tarlatan later. After removing some ink with the tarlatan we would use newspaper to remove the last bit of ink. I know this feels like a lot of steps but the work ended up being easier and faster (especially if you wet the paper the day proprior). That said I don't intend to judge your way of working, just give you a different perspective. Congratulations on all your accomplishments 💕

    Hi, I don't know if others have said, but the ink looks a little stiff when you're applying - is the workshop cold? Try working the ink more before applying and use more pressure to force it into the groves. Try not to coat the plate. Ball up the scrim and push/twist it down rather than wiping. When it's mostly removed use a rag or newsprint to polish the surface. Hope this helps.

    A cool tip I learned was that you can use soy sauce to degrease copper plates. After sanding the plate to 1000 grit, put soya evenly over the plate’s surface with a shop towel and rinse with water. Then just dry the plate and its done. The printmaking nerd in me loved this video. :)
