This man needs more subs. He doesn't only make high quality content, he pretty much discovers amazing software that we didn't know we needed or wanted, and then makes this awesome top tier tutorials for us to get into our hobbies!!! Like the OpenToonz list per example, which made me able to do some decent animation. Man I hope your channel grows up, you totally deserve it!
I can't thank you enough for your Tutorial. I've purchased this program for my 10-year old grandson who is telling me, he's going to be an architect one day. He's drawing a log cabin that he'd like to build on an old foundation we found on our farm.
I downloaded Sweet Home 3D over two years ago (because my old easy software won't work on a new computer), and it sat there completely unused because I couldn't figure out the first thing about it (creating and modifying walls) without getting utterly lost and frustrated. I thought it must be too complicated for me, even after watching a couple of other tutorials, and I'm no dummy. I just watched your Lesson 1 and you've made me think I can figure it out now, because you showed all the right things clearly and quickly. Thank you. Turns out the one piece of information missing was to click on the Select Object tool after having created a wall. Why did the others not make that as obvious as you did?
The fact you have tutorials for Natron, Davinci Resolve, Audacity, LMMS, OpenToonz, GIMP, and Inkscape; bro thank you. Were to have Bitwig too,, haha that'd be too funny. But, I've defaulted to these as my main-drivers, so it's pretty awesome.
Thank you so much. This video was so very helpful. I just downloaded the program. My parents will be having some renovating done to their home this spring and this will help us all visualize how it will look. We might even decide to change some things.
Now watched all your videos. Excellent! Best video tutorials ever. Looks like this is the program I need. Great to know that you have covered pretty well everything. Thanks.
How can we show a framing plan? Meaning how do we create a lumber list for the projects we are making. The predesigned walls are nice. but I would like to do a plan where I can show things like King, cripple, header studs. Are there preset lumber models like 2x4 4x4 6x6?
It's been requested for years, yet SweetHome 3D still hasn't implemented what should be a basic feature of this kind of software. And that is displaying the X and Y coordinates of the mouse pointer. It's VERY difficult to determine this by looking for the hair-thin marker lines that move along the ruler and guessing down to 1/8 inch. It's a terrible oversight to think those ruler markers are accurate enough.
Excellent video tutorial!....just found out about this product...question....I'm trying to build a TV set for college students...would this be a good product to conceptualize that? Also, can you import textures, say brick or stone? my set would be a series of 4x8 flats with a faux brick cover, and I am looking for a way to conceptualize before I start building...Thanks in advance for your help....
Hello I really been enjoying your videos. Extremely helpful. But I have a weird problem inside my sweet home 3d. I have weird gray flat panels floating high above my building in the sky. I see in the 2d aerial and the virtual walk through. But their is nothing on the blueprints to support the objects being there. Do you have a Facebook that I can send you pics of this problem. Thanks Kevin.
If you are still doing these: Can you show a single landing staircase from floor 1 to floor 2? Go up halfway to a landing and then reverse back up to the second floor. The variables are not that intuitive to me.
Hi Jerry, great question. SH3D comes with very limited stair models, but you can download more at www.sweethome3d.com/freeModels.jsp . Just download any models you like, and then go to Furniture > Import Furniture along the top menu of SH3D and navigate to the location where the new model was downloaded to. There are models for stairs with landings like you describe. Hope that helps.
This is the first of your video tutorials I have watched and was wondering if you have one that shows you how to go about adding my own prints to walls instead of using the ones from the Sweet Home Library.
Looking for advice. I need to have the container doors open at ninety degree angles to add a balcony. I've searched exhaustively for a hi-cube container with open doors but can't find anything. I am brand new to the program so have no clue how to do this. Appreciate your help.
I'm on my fourth failed CAD program to design a shipping container project. I watched another video showing using a texture for the walls, floors and ceilings and wondered where I would find this? I also wanted to know if this program is able to import objects from 3D Warehouse and furniture I designed in SketchUp. Appreciate any help.
Found it extremely difficult to use and set the proper wall length with Sweet Home 3D. For instance I have a room RL=7940 mm by RW=3755 and the wall thickness WT=640 mm. The question is how to create the plan? As far as i understand, you need to do additional calculation to set the proper wall length, in my example you need to add the wall thickness to the room length in order to get the required wall length WL = L+T. The same story for the wall width WL = W+T.
Hi Sergey. I understand the issue. If you know the dimensions of the inside of your room, its easier to use the 'create rooms' tool, to create the the floor of the room. Then, select the 'create walls' tool and double click on the room to automatically add walls around it. Then select the proper wall thickness, and this should show accurate inside and outside dimensions. Thanks for the comment, hope that helps!
@@TJFREE Unfortunately that only works as long as all walls around your room have the same thickness. As soon as you make one of the walls thicker it overlaps that one side of your room. If you make it thinner you get a gap between the room and that wall. So it is a a pain to create a sketch of an existing flat. That is a perfect design flaw of SH3D.
Im trying to draw a plan of my yard with driveways for Permit stuff. The width of my property is about 200 feet. What are the limits of Sweet Home? How can I make a scale of 80 fee by 200 feet? Thanks!
@@BodhiShakti It depends on the size of your page. 1/1 scale is actual size, so your paper would need to be 200+ feet long! 1/2 is half scale, or 1 unit on the page is equal to 2 units in real life. 1/20 would mean each foot on the page is equal to 20 ft in real life, so a 10 inch line would be 200 ft and could maybe fit vertically on a sheet of 8.5x11 paper.
@@TJFREE Thanks so much, however, when I set the scale to 1/5 I then draw a line and it shows the same footage as 1/1. I need the drawing Im doing to accurately represent the 1/5 footage. In other words, If I draw a line across 5 boxes then the line should show 25 feet, correct? Im doing plans for the County Permit Dept so I need the lines to represent correctly. Thanks!
Hello I"m a beginner of this software and hope someone from you guys will answer my question as I encounter during my modelling. There is a reflection of the slab like a shadow above it and how to remove it.
The info for Linux was lacking, so hope this helps someone... for Debian 11, I had to run the java file as the regular file gave me a GPU error message and wouldn't run at all. I entered this line into a terminal: /Applications/SweetHome3D-7.0.2$ ./SweetHome3D-Java3D-1_5_2 and, now it seems to be working.

TJ has tailored his tutorials by discrete functionality so like Geico, you only get what you need! Very well done!
One of the best tutorials on youtube and I’ve watched a lot. Well done!

You're welcome Stephani. Good luck with the project!
How do you make a Gable ridge roof wall

I like to see the length of each wall, door and windows to make a floor plan, to use it also to show the city what I am doing. How do you do that?

I have watched all your tutorial on Sweet Home 3D. Thanks for the excellent tutorial.
No 3D walls show up for me, no measurments across or down, looks nothing like in this video when I register and attempt to use it.
Can you please direct me to your video about dowloading this software. Could not identify its location. Thanks.

Had something like this channel existed 20 years ago when I was getting into Linux/computers... Things would've been too easy. Good video otherwise 😉
Thanks!
I think you said the walls were 6 inches thick? Is there a way to adjust this to make them thicker or thinner?
very nice and very well done
Trying to follow..but how do you select a wall to delete it?
Is there any way to add a top "box" to the walls? So far I can only make flat walls.
Sweet home 3D website does not exist. What has happened? I want to download additional items. Can you help?
Most important thing missing is how do you add dimension to wall
No doubt! This is a useful tutorial series. Thanks a lot!!
how can you tell what the height of the walls are?
Do you have any possibility to shift measurements from feet to cm?
How do I edit the properties of a wall? Like, I want to type in the values of length and thickness after they are created. Thanks!
Oops. There's a video for that. Found it!
Nicely presented. it's SPLENDID. Thanks a lot.
Thank you very much. Keep up the good work. I'm a new fan.

Cheers for this.
Day 1 of learning Sweet Home 3D :))
Thanks
Thank you so much!!!
Can you make a tutorial on how to make a hole or a cutout in the walls?
30'x16' to the center of the inside of the wall. Yay, I'm making wrong size rooms.

Hi,
I would like to know, why when i draw a room 5 meter long, its seems so small in the scheme?
Thank you.
Hi, I'm not sure I understand the question, but you can zoom in and out using the scroll wheel or the interface icons.
Thank you so much for your quick response. I have managed.
