Yeah Joey is one of the best drummers ever in my opinion! It’s not about technical abilities or anything like that even though Joey can play technical and with precision but he’s the best imo because of the drum parts he comes up with!

We should not forget that Lars created the drums on Metallica's songs, including the starting days of trash metal, no one told him how to do that, yet, no one seem to give him credit for this.
Lars is in excruciating pain & discomfort KNOWING everyone in "his" band enjoyed the sh*t out of playing with Dave & sounded way better...and far more hardcore. I always thought Lombardo was an obvious choice. But Jimmy DeGrasso would work even better with Rob on bass (see: Suicidal For Life). Add Zakk Wylde on lead (sorry Kirk) and you have the Metallica James always wanted. And a badass biker gang.
Zakk Wylde is a God, but he would sound terrible with Metallica. I don't think anyone wants to hear a pinch harmonic every 5th note of Master of Puppets.
