I play 1st trumpet on this song, and i love when we play this at our pep rallies or at a football game at the end of a quarter or during a long timeout. Been playing this 3 years now. It's our bands favorite song besides Holiday. '18!
We did this for halftime last year and it was amazing! This song gave me such an adrenaline rush when we played it the atmosphere it creates it phenomenal!
Our band always yells “DING” during the triangle part, since we don’t have a triangle most of the time. At one of our competitions, they had a college band come and play while we were getting ready for retreat, every other band is quiet but ours just yells “DING” and is dancing the whole time. Good times.
I'm a sophomore and I'm good with the trumpet I can't really play at home cuz I'm in a apartment but this song has linked me so well I can't play high notes like that but imma try and I bet I'll some day have this song down
Lyrics: Ah, yes Check it out Well, looky here, looky here, ah, what do we have? I'm a sophomore (soon to be junior) trumpet player, and this is my favorite stand tune. My entire band plays this song so well, because we all love it, and we played it at a halftime 2 years ago.
Two year old comment, but for anyone else thinking the same... learn them paradiddles man! Should flow real nice. Play it on one pad and then split it up.
We played the whole song at one of my games once. We were only gonna do the first half until the triangle player begged our directors for enough time to play her part 😂😂😂
Hello, trombone and trumpet player here. This song holds a special place in my heart because one of my friends who was a trombone player played this song all the time. He loved this song and he was a great trombone player. Sadly in October, he passed away. I recently took up playing trombone as the band needed to a new trombone player and as respect to him. I hope I can learn this song. I miss you bro. ❤️
Lowkey my favorite stand tune. I'm a freshman in my second year of high school band. I love this song definitely my favorite song to play. Starting my first year of honor band this year. wish me luck! Alto Sax btw
@@MarzBarz71222 That's how it works for my school, too, but I also find it illegal. I remember being in 8th grade and annoying the middle school band teacher with marching band music.
We just got this song in my band, and we play it sooo much slower than this 😂😂😂 we’ve only had it for a couple days, though, so as we practice it more it’ll probably get better.
With the covid restriction of going back in person, my band is split up super weird. The entire school population is split into two "cohorts", so we already only have half of our band every other day. But only 15 kids are allowed to play their instruments and they have to be 9 ft apart. Luckily, my school as a huge auditorium the school let's us use so we can get 9 ft distancing. But my cohort has 16 students, so instead of having one kid sit out, we're split into another group of 8. We only get to play with ¼ of our period, and since it's been a full year since we last played together, its rusty at best. We've realized we can't do classic band peices so instead were learning the pep band music. Every now and again, I listen to this recording and blast it and imagine my full band together- not just ¼ of my period, but all 3 periods together- and it's awesome Anyway, thanks for coming to my TedTalk-
I love this song. We don't use triangles for the one part. All the peeps down below yell DING while us Sousas hit our bells. Also as sousas we have a LOT of dances in this song as well as almost all of our pep songs.
director: no, faster
You’re not wrong haha
My band director started to yell at the percussion because they kept slowing us down lol
Yes
My directors have it faster than this because it was "too slow" like dude, we are dying rn
the band: no, even s l o w e r
best song we have for Pep Band. we don't bring triangles out to games though, so we just yell DING instead
Matthew Rehn us too! We bring the triangle, but you cant hear it when all 160-somethin of us yell ding.
Matthew Rehn Oh my god same. It is so funny though
We would all make a high-pitched OO-IP OO-IP sound on beats 3 and 4
Matthew Rehn We yell "HUH HUH HUH!"
Matthew Rehn That was a running joke in our band and we all yelled ding in the middle of a field show and it was so beautiful
The trombone part is so satisfying to just play as loud as you can
did you play the 1st trb. or 2nd trb. part?
It truly is
My band director yelled at me for doing that once
Bro during sectionals my section leader yelled at me because I was blaring 😢
Greatest song I have ever played in marching band
Euph Troop!

I play Baritone and I love the end
I'm on second trumpet rn it's really weird going from e flat to d and the b a g but I'm sure it blends in good when the whole band plays it
yooo I commented this 4 years ago lmao, I’m a senior in college now 😭🤣
@@TheBlackGuyGaming congrats!!! You made it that far and there's more to come im still a sophomore in high school
The tuba part is so hard but so satisfying to play
Gamer Ayo fuck the tuba part and whoever thought it was a good idea to jump partials like that
Learn to play bass guitar my guy makes things 10x easier and more fun
Especially when you're the loudest in your section, and the director expects you to be perfect.
Try playing tenor sax for this🤡🤡
The fun makes up for the difficulty
each time I perform this song it gives me chills I like this song
Uchiha Sasuke same
as an 2nd alto playing this in freshman year, i can gladly say i wanna die
it's not that bad?
yeah man cause this hard 😂
As a 2nd alto who practiced the crap out of it. It’s super fun once you’ve got the hang of it.
C'mon man as an alto myself this song is easy! You'll get it eventually.
tenor is where its at
We did this for halftime last year and it was amazing! This song gave me such an adrenaline rush when we played it the atmosphere it creates it phenomenal!
My band is doing it this year. That's why I'm here, lol.
Hold up, that was the same year my band played it at halftime as well. Are we somehow in the same band????!!!!
pure nostalgia for the "last year" band kid...
trombone is so hard to play in this but i love it
do you have a video of you playing to help me with it? ( the trombone part)
If we ever get this as one of stand tunes, my dad will be *so proud* , he's a BIG Bruno Mars fan!

My exact thought when reading this
1:05 during the rest we yell 3 times Ya ya ya
We yell colts (that’s the name of our team/band)
we go "shhh" because it quiets down
0:13 is when the song actually starts :)
1:40 the quad part makes me sweaty
fr tho the paradiddles got me crazy
The trumpet part on this is so much fun to play!
Im convinced this song is trying to kill the tenor sax player
Shoutout to the Pleasant Valley Drumline HEY GUYS
I played this my rookie year in marching band, and we still play it from time to time, just cause it's so fun.
