Alicia is one of my favorite artists as a whole. So much talent and hard work. A complete musician. Love this song, and love your insights. Thanks, Beth.
You rocked this video! Thank you so much for continuing to release quality content that's both entertaining and educational. Seriously, I appreciate your dedication
I've always felt that her 2005 MTV unplugged performance of this song was superior, could you please do a video that compares the two performances? (Also you need to check out her lead backup singer for that performance. Jermaine Paul is incredible)
You're a gem, Beth. I usually like your reactions. This one is one of my favourites. Not that I can explain what makes this extra good! Thanks for all your hard work.
If you watch a compilation of Alicia keys low notes she also has that deep full contralto tone as well, she really knows how to have color in her voice from the low to high, for example this live version sounds bright and softer compare to her husky powerful version in 2005 Grammy and it's in the same key.. I like how she switches it up ..
Love your insights into one of the best singer songwriter of the last 20 or 30 years. Would love it if you could review luther vandross- A house is not a Home at the NAACP awards. Keep it up Beth.

I found your remarks about the mix interesting, because I like to mix backing vocals at roughly the same volume as the main vocals myself, and I like I when I hear them mixed that way. I just take them down a tiny notch below the main vocals, and then I "move them further away" using reverb and EQ. The idea is to have them at the same volume but cut out some space in the frequency spectrum with the EQ to make the main vocals cut through and stand in the foreground even though they are at the same volume. I find that this gives an almost "choral" blend where at the same time the voices blend together as equals yet the main vocals can still be separated clearly.
Hi Beth, there’s this singer, Craig Mabbit from the band escape the fate. He has such a unique singing voice and always kills it with the vocals. Worth checking him and the band out 😄 there’s this song, Picture perfect by escape the fate. Vocals are killer!
So, theres this guy tim storms, who apparently has 10 octaves and I figured you might be interested in that. Also, JD Sumner had the first "lowest rdcorded note" record. He was an old singer, and sang with elvis. Finally, Im always impressed woth how you pick out the smallest things they do with their voice and how they use them to change the mood pf the song. 👍
Love your videos! They make quarantine time pass better. If you're up for some more Brazilian music, you should check out Chitãozinho & Xororó singing Galopeira. They're two brothers who've been singing for several decades now, and they're among the most iconic musicians in Brazil.
Alicia is a great singer 👏👏👏 Congratulations, 400k subs! 👏👏👏

I Love yours reacts! Thank you for these incredible moments with you. I'd love to see you react to Brazilian singer Maria Bethânia, my favourite song "Tocando Em Frente".
Hey, Beth, here are some suggestions: Kumbala-Maldita Vecindad y Los Hijos del Quinto Patio, Eres-Café Tacvba, Te Extraño-Elán, Quizás, Quizás, Quizás-Gaby Moreno, Malagueña Salerosa-Chingon, Alas Negras-Santa Sabina, Alcoba Azul-Lila Downs and Xochipitzahua-Lila Downs.
I love your videos!! I recently found them and now I am obssesed with them!! You really should react to Wait For Me II from Hadestown, i absolutly adore that cast and their harmonies
I think with some singers like Alicia, the way she sings certain words as you pointed out is as much to do with the New Yorker in her as it is deliberately making it easier to sing.
Can I ask question to a professional ! I had a debate with friends regarding Jhene Aiko and Alicia's vocals . I think they are equally talented in different ways. But I think Alicia is strong vocally which some friends disagreed. I want to get a professional opinion to resolve our debate, what do you think?
Please, look at First Aid Kit, either their popular stuff like "My Silver Lining" or anything else, realy, like "In the Morning". I find it outstanding
Alicia Keys is just absolutely phenomenal Fun Fact she has won 15 Grammy Awards in an incredibly short space of time during her prime. It is possible that she has a world record on that if I was to guess.
Enjoying all your analysis without putting down the singers. Check out a live performance of Philip Bailey singing Fantasy with Earth Wind and Fire - (Earth, Wind & Fire - Fantasy (Official Music Video))
Hi Beth, i love your reaction videos. Will you PLEASE react to Michele Stodart from the magic numbers on her solo stuff? Her voice is amazing and gives me goose bumps when she sings, full of emotion and feeling. I would suggest maybe her song ‘anyone won’t do’ there are some good recordings. I’ll find a link and post it. I hope you do this one, I’d be very interested to hear your comments as her voice is so unique to me.
I would love to see your reaction with Bronski Beat - Smalltown Boy (Jimmy Somerville, Steve Bronski and Larry Steinbachek), I think this song must have been a milestone for British homosexual society at the time. In addition to the unique voice of Jimmy Somerville.
Hi Beth, i am a new subscriber watching from Sydney Australia 😁 I really enjoy your breakdown of techniques and how they can affect the tone or feeling of a song!!! If you would like to listen to someone new(maybe), could i ask that you react to an artist by the name of Fatai please. She has a sam smith medley that you migjt want to listsn to or pick from any of her videos. Thanks for the awesome video!!

Hey can you please react to Cem Adrian - Summertime ? His vocal range is too wide. He can sing in bariton, tenor, falsettos he is amazing . I hope you will see his songs.
Have you managed to miss Diamanda Galas? Definitely a minority taste but what she does vocally is amazing, even if not all would think it musical in the conventional sense. This is live, short, not inaccessible by her standards, captures some of her upper range and some of the lower end towards the end of the video and we get to see her breathe control and multiphonic singing. We don't get the extremes of her range, the most bluesy of her lower range or those ridiculously extended breaths that just go on forever. Time pressed viewers should watch from 4:04 Diamanda Galas - The thrill is gone ua-cam.com/video/34snusKjalA/v-deo.html
I think you might enjoy Nina Hagen - Natürträne from '79. Nina has a 6 octave+ range. ua-cam.com/video/I8Rfypk7vuM/v-deo.html (The rest of the show is also on youtube, more rock, less opera)

Talking abt intelligent lyrics, I love Alicia Keys' song, Lesson Learned too.
I love Alicia so much! Thanks for reaching to her!
Alicia is a powerhouse! Great reaction Beth!!!
Yes! Thank you! 😊
