Regarding the shuttlecraft: You DO remember that the series has replicators, right? I have no problem believing that the Shuttlecraft used on most ships are assembled basically out of kits. And yes, Voyager was low on replicator power, which would have meant that replicator power would be rationed based on necessity. Which would mean things like EPS conduits, injectors, hull plating and, you guessed it, Shuttlecraft replacements would be at the top of that list, as would Medical supplies. It's a TINY bit weird that Food isn't first and foremost, but that's likely more to do with the fact that it's easier to find food in a quadrant with plenty of civilized people than it is to find, you know... Federation components.
Wouldn't it be great to have a Star Trek show about the engineers who design and build these ships?
I am forever of the opinion that Janeway kept letting shuttles explode just to keep the crew occupied between crises building new ones; so they wouldn’t have time to worry about the long journey home.
A colleague of mine worked on Voyager (and DS9), and as he explained to me, the captain’s yacht was actually modeled in 3D for Voyager. There was an animation test done of its launch for potential use in a future episode, but it was done around the time Insurrection was being made. Insurrection had its captain’s yacht sequence, so the powers that be (I believe it was Berman himself, but don’t quote me) put the kibosh on Voyager using its captain’s yacht, because it would “undermine” the Insurrection scene.

I think its alluded to that Voyager left with a certain number of shuttles, then kept rebuilding them as they needed. They hint to that in the episode where they build the first Delta flyer.
I'm with you on this. I mean, they did build the Delta Flyer in about 12 minutes... Twice.
Yep, if they can design and build the delta flyer, and then redesign and build a replacement, I'm sure they can handle the cookie cutter shuttle designs

The Bird of Prey has been on my to do list for years. I actually started some video notes back in 2014 when I did the Star Trek IV video. Eventually, I'd like to do something on the Klingons.
I think the Klingon ship from Search for Spock is still my favorite. Despite or perhaps because of the pastel lighting scheme inside...

I used to dislike Voyager's design but it's really grown on me over the years. I still think the nacelles are disproportionately short and would look much better with something closer to the Equinox or Enterprise-E, but that's my only real gripe at this point.

I love all of your videos-- your voice has really nice cadence, and your videos are edited and researched well; It really makes being a Trekkie enjoyable.
More entertaining Trek trivia. To me Voyager's saucer section looked like a giant ironing board cut in half. I liked the way her warp nacelles tilted just before she jumped to warp speed, as shown in the title sequence. I thought she was a sleeker, more attractive starship than the Enterprise D, but the ultimate starship for me was the Enterprise E, a majestic looking vessel.

I always thought Voyager was a small ship, based from its crew complement - but shocked me seeing she was Connie sized! Like the show itself, took a awhile to appreciate the plucky ship! Great breakdown! Can't wait to see more!

They must have a sweatshop somewhere on Voyager, constantly building shuttle crafts like they were Soviet T-34 tanks.
They were able to replicate the lost shuttle craft. However, the cost of doing so meant they didn't have the resources (computer bandwidth + antimatter generated energy) to replicate a lot of other things such as food. Hence, the necessity of Neelix's cooking.

My favorite ship by far, it's just so sleek!
Good work, again. The yacht, or “Aerowing” was designed inside and out, with cgi of it findable on UA-cam. Personally, having heard the rumor that the Voyager could land on a planet, I had assumed the shape was a landing gear foot. That didnt make much sense, but neither did the legs they eventually used. I would have loved it if, during the discussion of building the Delta Flyer, there had been a few lines about the other ship being cannibalized for parts. Having them “fix” the utterly destroyed flyer was the height of laziness, and made the two episode turn around between Defiants feel like an honorable sendoff.
Hi there! If you talked about Star Trek as whole the U.S.S. Voyager isn't the last model that should be the Enterprise E, in First Contact it was both physical model and CGI.
This was my favorite ship to sculpt out of modeling clay when I was younger. Especially when it got assimilated.
The crew just made more shuttles with on-board fabrication facilities. There was even a line of dialogue from Lt. Torres about how she was going to go crazy if she had to build one more shuttle.

Voyager is simply from the same design lineage as the Galaxy class, a refinement you could say. The Sovereign class was a radical next step forward. That's why it looks different.
I frankly much prefer the Sovereign over both Galaxy and Intrepid... I'm glad with direction they went with for the Big E.

You don't even need such a big replicator. They have industrial replicators, which are for example also used to produce outer hull parts when something is broken there. That's common on all star ships. It would take some weeks to build a shuttle craft but at least they wouldn't have to invent it first like the Delta Flyer.
The same with torpedoes. They use more than the original 32 torpedoes, because they can rebuilt them. The only problem is, that it needs time to produce the Antimatter in the small antimatter production facilities on board, so they have only 32 photon torpedoes PER BATTLE. And in the beginning, when they hadn't cartographed any area yet, they didn't knew where to refuel (to get Janeways Coffee), so they had to save energy for the important parts of the ship and couldn't replace the shooted torpedoes.

I think there are 2 warp core eject ports... because there are 2 cores in Voyager. During the series, for whichever reason, we use the one closest to the shuttle bay.
Even in your video, the ejection happens from the rear.

I really don't know of anyone else who wanders around in that never-never land between 'The Canon' (what it's supposed to be) and the mechanics of making a show (what it literally is) and how each affects the other... or in some cases becomes the other. Actually, Voyager wasn't the last studio model made for a starship. The Enterprise E was originally made as a studio model, however, it was roughly 9 feet long and very cumbersome to film. Therefore, the CGI model replaced it in nearly every instance. The studio model can only be seen in the opening pan shot of ST: First Contact. I believe the model is still out there somewhere.
You are correct. It's been a few years since I did anything on the Enterprise E so the production timeline got mixed up in my head. Thanks for catching that.

I can only handle "excape pod" so many times before I quit watching.
The Voyager was always my favourite ship, for how well it is designed.
On the shuttle problem, apperantly they build new shuttles whenever possible, the only problem being energy reserves and some rare materials the replicator has problems with. So most shuttles did not exist when the Voyager started her journey.
I think there is an episode - I forget which one but it has a conversation between Janeway and Torres and they say they traded something (gel packs I think) for an industrial replication unit - then after that episode they never mention replicator rations, shuttle's losses or Torpedoes again.
I think that was an indication that is solved their supply and production problems. & was what allowed them to make a ton of shuttles and also replenish the Torpedoes - they also mined some places for rare elements at least once and I think that helped too.
But Star Trek is a bit hit and miss on how replicators work and what their limitations are - I think they sometimes add limitations to pad the story. Since TNG made the Replicators TO GOOD as conceived. It made them seem like they could replicate inorganic matter and make almost anything - where as other times they were more like matter assemblers (that would require way less energy to make objects from a supply or preexisting materials than it would to do direct energy to matter conversion).
I tend to look on it as a compromise method (especially in Voyager) where they make stuff out of mostly Hydrogen atoms (modified accordingly) and certain things are tricky to model so they prefer to mine it. That would include certain rear elements and compounds.
The problem with that is that there really is no technological reason in-universe why they couldn't replicate almost anything including organic molecules (i.e living ones) there is no reason why for example it wouldn't be possible to say print a horse. (so to speak) or print an horse embryo and grow it in a vat. or even materialise a whole horse from a pattern.
But then you get into ethics if you create and destroy a real horse at need - why not create and destroy / store the crew too.
They obviously don't want to get into the whole backing people up thing as it sort of kills drama - even though again I can't see any reason why it's not technically feasible if not in the 24th Century certainly by the 26th.
From what I know replicators are limited in how far down the peiodic table the material is, So hydrogen/oxygen is not problem, led is a bit more problematic and super heavy warp core alloys are extreamly hard to create out of nothing.

Love how the displays all show an obvious secondary warp core. Though it is never mentioned except that they only ever have one warp core. Loosing warp power was just too important to Star Trek episode structure, that having a second core to consider in the story telling would be a huge inconvenience.

How about a retrospectvive about galaxy size and speeds differences, example vulcan its about 16 ligth years from earth, and can be traveled in no more than 4 minutes. that mean you can travel 5760 ligthyears in a day. at that speed you can travel the 70,000 years where the voyager are in the alpha quadrant in less than 12 years not 70, and that is using the high speed used by the enterprise limited to Warp 8, not Warp 9.9 from the voyager. and again how is this possible if the enterprise can travel to the center of the galaxy in only 4 hours. that mean this enterprise can travell 50,000 ligth years in only 4 hours????'

Still the best trek channel. I have raise the idea on the daystrom institute sub Reddit that trek has become a sci-fi subgenres, with Galaxy quest, the Orville, and now the first episode of black mirror season 4.
