Landed here based on the unfortunate passing of Mr. Jansch, but pleased to see the legacy of Bert, Sandy Denny and Anne Briggs in such able young hands and voice. Keep that flame burning and keep this music alive.
This is outstanding! To my ear, this is the perfect matching of voice and guitar. Amazing composition by Bert, amazing guitar playing and singing by you...ugh...it's like magic in real life!
I have commented before but I keep coming back to this clip as I absolutely love it. To play and sing as well as you do simultaneously is phenomenal and I have never witnessed anybody else display such skill in both the way you do.
good GOD woman. GOOD LORD! not ONLY are you learning one of the greats (GOOD TASTE) you ARE AMAZING. i have never seen a girl play like this. i am gobsmacked. AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!
wow, nice work, nice choice of songs. I give your dad a lot of credit for steering/exposing you to such good music and letting you run with it. good dad!
Took the Jansch arr. and refined it (meaning: plays it better). Love the string bends. The Martin sounds dull and lifeless here, sounds juicy and delicious on Ragamuffin. Voice is beautimous and she can sing in this style very well. I know some of these things have 47 verses, but six minutes is too long. Man, this girl is the big time - what a joy to watch and listen to.
There was someone taking pictures near the camera that was doing the recording. I think there was also someone's cell phone that made a noise towards the middle of the piece.
Creditable job on Bert Jansch version of this spooky supernatural ballad. Lots of variants of tune and text on this, first printed in 1814 in Liverpool.
@intomuse also a big fan of Marcyn - I was going to post the same comment as yours - her playing is well proven now - but her voice is maturing and in this number the two complement each other most beautifully. Her love of this music at such a tender age is most welcomed too. Regards
Excellent! I love those string bends and stops. You got the voice and looks and guitar chops to be a star, young lady! When you get that first CD out, I'll be one of your first customers, for sure!
Been following your stuff for a while now, but this has to be one of my faves. What a fantastic rendition, and a fantastic voice too! One of my fave folk songs, I originally heard it by Sandy Denny with Fairport. Good to see someone else a similar age liking proper folk music with proper guitar work in it!!! Keep it up!
Absolutely brilliant rendition of this fine tune! Your performance is flawless! You have certainly mastered the art of bending duplicate strings just like Bert. Wonderful!
Wow! Perfect play & voice... more than for 30 years I've been loving this song though I have hesitated to play for myself because Bert's is too perfect... However yours is as much wonderful as his... Thanks for posting this great performance ;-)
My gosh my gosh my gosh .. :) I and several music-loving friends cannot wait until you are ready to tour so we can see you live, bring our babies to your show so that they can learn that this kind of craft is still possible, bake something delicious for you as you pass through. But by all means, take all the time you need to do it on your terms. It is just beautiful that you have all this talent and still so much time!
Yours is by far the best cover of Bert Jansch's "Reynardine" that I've seen here on UA-cam. In fact, in many ways, yours is superior to later Jansch live performances of the same piece as he tended to be rather sloppy with the guitar work and tempo changes. I am curious to know where you found the transcription, or whether you learned it directly from the recording? Back in the early '70s, when "Rosemary Lane" came out, the only way to learn these tunes was from repeated listening to the record, a rather painful process.
I am a fan and I think this rendition and performance is exquisite. I play and sing myself and I think the way you combine and carry such skilfull playing and great singing is remarkable, even exceptional. Truly inspiring and uplifting, you make the sun shine for me even when it is raining!
Your singing is awesome. I almost forgot that I was watching one of the best fingerstyle players I have seen. Your bends were perfect - I watched this a few times trying to find why somebody posted a comment about them. I thought you were going to pull the 3rd string right off the board the first time I saw this. Thank-you.
Well Macyn, your fingerstyle talents have shown for a long time, but now you're beginning to grow into your voice, so that's beginning to compliment your playing even more now. I'm hearing a nice underlining, subtle, timber in the tone on your vocal work that you just weren't able to produce a few years ago cause you were just to young then. Just a natural progression at play there i guess, but yet another element of your music to enjoy. Nice selection of material here for this too...tom c.
Love the playing esp the bends! You must have developed some serious strenght in your fingers over the years! Vocal is also amazing spot on. Love it. You should do a song like this on your next album.
I've only discovered your channel recently, but you're an amazing player! This video is my most watched so far, I'd love to be able to rock a folk tune as well as you do!
I was just wondering how you would do with any thing by Bert Jansch. Here's the answer, wonderfully well!! Your voice is excellent and so well suited for this particular song. You will have dilemmas.......what direction will you go? As the great Davey Graham said, " I play what I like hearing." And we were all the better for it..! Check out Bert Jansch/Anne Briggs collaborations sometime....best wishes from UK
This is really beautiful. A great Bert Jansch instrumental tune to hear (and play if you like) is "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" from Jack Orion.
Just posted a message a few minutes ago and forgot to mention that Alison Krauss & Union Station do a very nice cover of t"The Dimming of the Day" which is available to view on UA-cam.
Landed here based on the unfortunate passing of Mr. Jansch, but pleased to see the legacy of Bert, Sandy Denny and Anne Briggs in such able young hands and voice.
Keep that flame burning and keep this music alive.
I've been a fan of Jansch for many decades, and of this song in particular. Your rendition of it is excellent.
I first picked up a guitar when I was seven. I was 15 when this video was made. Glad you liked it.
This is outstanding! To my ear, this is the perfect matching of voice and guitar. Amazing composition by Bert, amazing guitar playing and singing by you...ugh...it's like magic in real life!
I keep coming back to this fabulous piece of work. A real, original talent.
So amazing to watch this....my favorite Jansch song...she really nailed it:)
I stumbled on this clip by accident. What a talent this young woman. Bravo!!
Macyn Taylor is amazing ... great guitarist !
sweetblues 63 Yes she is. Singing and playing this guitarpart at the same time is quite a challenge!!
Absolutely brilliant. Moved me this did.
Came upon this one by chance, Amazing work! Great tribute to Bert.
Hello Macyn,
Today Bert Jansch died, and I'm loving this beautiful tribute to that great musician... well done!
I have commented before but I keep coming back to this clip as I absolutely love it. To play and sing as well as you do simultaneously is phenomenal and I have never witnessed anybody else display such skill in both the way you do.
Bravo Macyn, Your voice and your guitar are wonderful ... and your great charisma, could be listening to you all day
Outstanding! Bert would be proud!
It is a privilege to watch you, you have a tremendous talent!
Thoroughly enjoyed this amazing performance. Came to this via the Fairport Convention version with Sandy Denny.
Everything about that is amazing. I love watching you torture the g string. ;)
good GOD woman. GOOD LORD! not ONLY are you learning one of the greats (GOOD TASTE) you ARE AMAZING. i have never seen a girl play like this. i am gobsmacked. AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!
wow, nice work, nice choice of songs. I give your dad a lot of credit for steering/exposing you to such good music and letting you run with it. good dad!
Great playing, great tribute to Jansch, and with a unique sound of your own to boot!
In my opinion, one of the most difficult Bert Jansch arrangements to master....and you nailed it!
Ya' know you have a really nice voice. Your playing skills are top notch as well. That was a treat to hear. I listened twice and added to favorites.
Breathtaking performance - Macyn seems significantly younger here - what a guitarist. And singer.
Simply amazing. Love the passion and digging into the strings like Bert. You are a gem.
There was someone taking pictures near the camera that was doing the recording. I think there was also someone's cell phone that made a noise towards the middle of the piece.
Dont worried Macyn, you did an excellent job....gracias!!
Wow! Longtime fan!
Well done! Like you were Bert Jansch's daughter and how she would play it!! Lovely! You are listening to the best of the best!
Wow! That was stunning.
Lovely again Macyn. I wonder if we might see you at the Cambridge Folk Festival soon (UK) soon ?
amazing performance ....thnx for posting
Bravissima, con il meraviglioso arrangiamento di Bert Jansch. Complimenti!
being a massive fan of bert jansch i have to say i think you are the best i have ever heard magic
The lyrics I sing are a mixture of Anne Briggs and Bert Jansch's versions. I learned them from their recordings, but I never wrote them down.
so great this young lady has so much talent. thank god for folks like this.
Creditable job on Bert Jansch version of this spooky supernatural ballad. Lots of variants of tune and text on this, first printed in 1814 in Liverpool.
Awesome performance! 💜
I am touched!
R.I.P bert Jansch.
I keep watching just to see and hear those finger-rolls, great timing and tone on them.
So beautiful!!
This is Ridiculous.Ridiculously good that is.
I am in awe. You are wonderful to listen to. That Martin is hanging in there as well.
@intomuse also a big fan of Marcyn - I was going to post the same comment as yours - her playing is well proven now - but her voice is maturing and in this number the two complement each other most beautifully. Her love of this music at such a tender age is most welcomed too. Regards
This is soooooo good. I just keep watching it over and over. I wish she would do more of this stuff!
Excellent! I love those string bends and stops. You got the voice and looks and guitar chops to be a star, young lady! When you get that first CD out, I'll be one of your first customers, for sure!
Wow this really knocked me out! Are you going to put any more Bert covers up any time? This is absolutely the best version I've seen of this, by far..
Maycn,
Your best vocal (in your tube videos), and as usual, great guitar mastery.
I look forward to more posts. You are fantastic. I am a big fan.
WOW again!!!! Your singing is as beautiful as your guitar playing. What a great talent. You should be famous!
This performance was phenomenal.
